Book Synopsis The Metallography of Meteoric Iron by : Stuart Hoffman Perry
Download or read book The Metallography of Meteoric Iron written by Stuart Hoffman Perry and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A systematic treatment of the metallography of meteoric iron was prompted by the author's experience in describing an iron meteorite by metallographic methods somewhat more than a decade ago. After that, a search of the literature proved scanty for any new meteorite being described in a similar manner. The present work aims to apply metallography, both theoretically and practically, to the study of iron meteorites. To that end the author has attempted to give a sufficient outline to the metallography of artificial iron and its alloys to enable the reader to interpret meteoritic structures; the principal types and structural features are described and illustrated; methods of research are explained; and finally a somewhat comprehensive bibliography is presented.
Book Synopsis The Foundations of Geometry and the Non-Euclidean Plane by : G.E. Martin
Download or read book The Foundations of Geometry and the Non-Euclidean Plane written by G.E. Martin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a text for junior, senior, or first-year graduate courses traditionally titled Foundations of Geometry and/or Non Euclidean Geometry. The first 29 chapters are for a semester or year course on the foundations of geometry. The remaining chap ters may then be used for either a regular course or independent study courses. Another possibility, which is also especially suited for in-service teachers of high school geometry, is to survey the the fundamentals of absolute geometry (Chapters 1 -20) very quickly and begin earnest study with the theory of parallels and isometries (Chapters 21 -30). The text is self-contained, except that the elementary calculus is assumed for some parts of the material on advanced hyperbolic geometry (Chapters 31 -34). There are over 650 exercises, 30 of which are 10-part true-or-false questions. A rigorous ruler-and-protractor axiomatic development of the Euclidean and hyperbolic planes, including the classification of the isometries of these planes, is balanced by the discussion about this development. Models, such as Taxicab Geometry, are used exten sively to illustrate theory. Historical aspects and alternatives to the selected axioms are prominent. The classical axiom systems of Euclid and Hilbert are discussed, as are axiom systems for three and four-dimensional absolute geometry and Pieri's system based on rigid motions. The text is divided into three parts. The Introduction (Chapters 1 -4) is to be read as quickly as possible and then used for ref erence if necessary.

Book Synopsis Algebraical and Topological Foundations of Geometry by : Hans Freudenthal
Download or read book Algebraical and Topological Foundations of Geometry written by Hans Freudenthal and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algebraical and Topological Foundations of Geometry contains the proceedings of the Colloquium on Algebraic and Topological Foundations of Geometry, held in Utrecht, the Netherlands in August 1959. The papers review the algebraical and topological foundations of geometry and cover topics ranging from the geometric algebra of the Möbius plane to the theory of parallels with applications to closed geodesies. Groups of homeomorphisms and topological descriptive planes are also discussed. Comprised of 26 chapters, this book introduces the reader to the theory of parallels with applications to closed geodesies; groups of homeomorphisms; complemented modular lattices; and topological descriptive planes. Subsequent chapters focus on collineation groups; exceptional algebras and exceptional groups; the connection between algebra and constructions with ruler and compasses; and the use of differential geometry and analytic group theory methods in foundations of geometry. Von Staudt projectivities of Moufang planes are also considered, and an axiomatic treatment of polar geometry is presented. This monograph will be of interest to students of mathematics.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Number Theory by : Trygve Nagell
Download or read book Introduction to Number Theory written by Trygve Nagell and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2021-07-21 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A special feature of Nagell's well-known text is the rather extensive treatment of Diophantine equations of second and higher degree. A large number of non-routine problems are given. Reviews & Endorsements This is a very readable introduction to number theory, with particular emphasis on diophantine equations, and requires only a school knowledge of mathematics. The exposition is admirably clear. More advanced or recent work is cited as background, where relevant … [T]here are welcome novelties: Gauss's own evaluation of Gauss's sums, which is still perhaps the most elegant, is reproduced apparently for the first time. There are 180 examples, many of considerable interest, some of these being little known. -- Mathematical Reviews
Book Synopsis Distillation Theory and its Application to Optimal Design of Separation Units by : F. B. Petlyuk
Download or read book Distillation Theory and its Application to Optimal Design of Separation Units written by F. B. Petlyuk and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-10-18 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 2004, Distillation Theory and Its Application to Optimal Design of Separation Units presents a clear, multidimensional geometric representation of distillation theory that is valid for all distillation column types, splits, and mixtures. This representation answers such fundamental questions as: what are the feasible separation products for a given mixture? What minimum power is required to separate a given mixture? What minimum number of trays is necessary to separate a given mixture at a fixed power input? This book is intended for students and specialists in the design and operation of separation units in the chemical, pharmaceutical, food, wood, petrochemical, oil-refining, and natural gas industries and for software designers.
