Book excerpt: Back to Methuselah, by Bernard Shaw, is a play where the author expresses his reflections on the topic of religion and atheism, science, politics, and history. The preface of the book deals with popular thoughts, institutions, and most sacred beliefs. Shaw gives a history of the different beliefs towards the nature of a human and the universe. He goes on with his own mental struggles and evolution. Shaw criticizes the church and its followers, whom he calls idolaters. He says that their superstitions and legends actually deter people from the divine. But he criticizes atheism too and reflects on how the atheists manipulate the Darwin teachings of evolution.

Book excerpt: Back To Methuselah: A Metabiological Pentateuch With Preface (The Infidel Half Century) This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Back to Methuselah: A Metabiological Pentateuch I could be an Evolutionist and not a neo-darwinian, or why I habitually derided neo-darwinism as a ghastly idiocy, and would fall on its professors slaughterously in public discussions. It was in the hope of making me clear the matter up that the Fabian Society, which was then organizing a series of lectures on Prophets of the Nineteenth Century, asked me to deliver a lecture on the prophet Darwin. I did so; and scraps of that lecture, which was never published, variegate these pages. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Should We Live Forever? written by Gilbert Meilaender and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2013-01-14 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Should We Live Forever? Christian ethicist Gilbert Meilaender puzzles over the implications of the medical advances that have lengthened the human life span, wrestling with what this quest for living longer means for our conception of living well and completely. As he points out in his introduction, "That we often desire, even greedily desire, longer life is clear; whether what we desire is truly desirable is harder to say." The six chapters of this book take multiple perspectives on issues surrounding aging and invite readers to consider whether "indefinitely more life" is something worth pursuing and, if humans are created for life with God, whether longer life will truly satisfy our underlying hunger.

This book was released on 2024-01-28 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores a heretofore unremarked linkage between Bernard Shaw, the twentieth-century French thinker Paul Ricoeur, and Jesus of Nazareth. The ties that bind them are a foundational interest in the social teachings of the Nazarene and their use of a shared dialectics with respect to living the kind of compassionate life that holds out the promise in our contemporary world of achieving something approximating universal wellness on a healthy planet at peace with itself. This work argues that the three principal subjects of the study—independently of one another—used the same dialectical method to reach the same dialectically derived conclusion about how humans can live redemptively in a fractured world.
