Book Synopsis Design and analysis of a content-based image retrieval system by : Hernández Mesa, Pilar
Download or read book Design and analysis of a content-based image retrieval system written by Hernández Mesa, Pilar and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2017-10-18 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The automatic retrieval of images according to the similarity of their content is a challenging task with many application fields. In this book the automatic retrieval of images according to human spontaneous perception without further effort or knowledge is considered. A system is therefore designed and analyzed. Methods for the detection and extraction of regions and for the extraction and comparison of color, shape, and texture features are also investigated.

The processing of high-consistency silicone rubber in the extrusion process places high demands on the processor in terms of process understanding and material behavior. The aim of this dissertation is to contribute to the fundamental and comprehensive analysis of the extrusion process of high-consistency silicone rubber.
Book Synopsis Logical Time for Decentralized Control of Material Handling Systems by : Seibold, Zaezilia
Download or read book Logical Time for Decentralized Control of Material Handling Systems written by Seibold, Zaezilia and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2016-11-29 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fourth industrial revolution aims to transform production systems. In this work, Logical Time which is a control principle for distributed systems is transferred to material handling systems with decentralized control. The GridSorter, a modular sorter with grid-like structure, is chosen as showcase system. The system is proven to be deadlock-free and is robust against varying transport times. The time-window-based route reservation process is described as Iterative Deepening A*.
Book Synopsis Lean Management in Hospitals: Principles and Key Factors for Successful Implementation by : Verena Lindenau-Stockfisch
Download or read book Lean Management in Hospitals: Principles and Key Factors for Successful Implementation written by Verena Lindenau-Stockfisch and published by Bachelor + Master Publication. This book was released on 2011 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The healthcare system of today’s westernised civilisation holds a paradox: on the one hand, hospitals equipped with state-of-the-art-technology and well-educated staff working under best hygienic conditions is regarded standard. On the other hand, our healthcare system is ailing and cutbacks in capital spending, wages and personnel appear on the agenda. Accordingly, a more sophisticated approach that helps hospitals to work efficiently and effectively is needed. Among quality management tools, Lean is one suitable methodology that can help healthcare organisations out of the dilemma. Originally, Lean is a management methodology that goes back to production processes with the main aim to increase output by reducing input. The lean philosophy has its origin in the Japanese manufacturing industry and is strongly bound to the Toyota Production System (TPS). In hospitals, Lean is ideally based on three main pillars: process optimisation, patient-oriented management as well as engaging and leading employees. The first chapter of the book deals with the main principles and tools of Lean to give readers an overview about the basic ideas of this management philosophy. The understanding for waste and wasteful activities will be enhanced and tools such as Kanban, Kaizen and Value Stream Mapping, that are helpful for identification and elimination of waste, will be introduced. Furthermore, new terms and concepts such as Lean Sigma, telemedicine and e-health are examined. For Lean to tap its full potential, human aspects must be considered likewise. One of the most important aspects in hospitals is the successful management of patients. The second chapter concentrates on factors that positively influence the bottom line in a hospital. Thus, patient satisfaction, strategic alliances in the healthcare environment and hospital marketing are of main focus since all these aspects are considered value-adding steps that help to increase service quality and to streamline processes in hospitals. Additionally, effective lean management concentrates on successful leading and engaging employees. Lean management does not happen on its own: it needs visionary leadership and expert knowledge. Lean management calls for a reflected interaction with employees. Hence, the third chapter deals with employee satisfaction and motivation and how this contributes to a sound and proper basis for smooth implementation of lean processes. Implemented correctly, the Lean message is 100% positive because it can indeed create a win-win-win-situation: for the health care institution, the end users - above all patients - and medical staff. But a philosophical issue has to be incorporated into the DNA of the organisation to produce sustainable changes with resulting advantages.
Book Synopsis Cooperative Event-Based Control of Mobile Agents by : Michael Schwung
Download or read book Cooperative Event-Based Control of Mobile Agents written by Michael Schwung and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis proposes a method that plans trajectories for autonomous agents to enable them to fulfil different tasks while ensuring the collision-free movement. The agents are locally controlled and connected over an unreliable communication network that may induce packet losses and transmission delays. Further sensors e.g. for a distance measurement are not used and communication should only be invoked if it is necessary to avoid a collision. The basic problem occurs for two agents. The first agent can change its trajectory at any time without regard to the second agent, which has to ensure the collision avoidance. To this aim it adapts its trajectory based only on local data and communicated information about the current and future movement of the first agent. A control unit for the second agent is introduced that has to execute four tasks to ensure the control aims: 1. Estimation of the current network properties. 2. Prediction of the movement of the stand-on agent. 3. Invocation of communication whenever the local data becomes too uncertain. 4. Planning of collision avoiding trajectories. The main result of the thesis is a novel control method for mobile agents that solves the four tasks leading to a proven collision avoidance. The method consists of a delay estimator, a prediction unit, an event generator and a trajectory planning unit. The method can be used for different types of agents (e.g. UAVs or cars) with only slight modifications. The proposed method is tested and evaluated through simulations and experiments with both, two quadrotors and two nonholonomic robots.

Book Synopsis Topic Drop and Null Subjects in German by : Ewa Trutkowski
Download or read book Topic Drop and Null Subjects in German written by Ewa Trutkowski and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-04-25 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with argument drop in the German prefield and it presents new insights into null subjects, topic drop and the interpretation of topic dropped elements. Major issues are (inter alia) the drop of structurally vs. obliquely cased arguments and the question on which basis nominative/accusative and dative/genitive can be kept apart. Furthermore, it is shown that the (im)possibility of phi-feature mismatches concerning the antecedent and gap in topic drop dialogues allows to differentiate between coreference and "real" (quantifier) binding. Aside from topic drop, (1st/2nd vs. 3rd person) null subjects are investigated across a couple of unrelated languages, also focusing on the presence of syncretisms within verbal inflectional paradigms. It is proven that 1st/2nd person null subjects in German are not an instance of antecedent-dependent topic drop but that they are licensed by discrete verbal inflectional endings. Thus, according to this property, German can be classified as a partial pro-drop language. Next to theoretical discussions and considerations this book offers a broad (empirically covered) data basis, which makes it suitable for both theoretically and empirically interested (generative) linguists.
