Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study offers a concise yet comprehensive account of Israel's history as told through the lives of nine of its leading citizens and founders. Each chapter chronicles a critical epoch in the Israeli saga and catalogs the impact made on that epoch by one of nine leading protagonists--Theodor Herzl, Chaim Weizmann, David Ben-Gurion, Abba Eban, Moshe Dayan, Golda Meir, Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Rabin, and Ariel Sharon. The result is a narrative that traces events from the genesis of modern political Zionism in the late 19th century to the present. A tapestry of history, biography and myth deconstruction, this volume provides a distinctive introduction to a nation that--whether it inspires pride or incites passions--never ceases to fascinate.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of David and Goliath existed in antiquity in two variant literary editions, a short version found in the Greek tradition of Codex Vaticanus (LXXB) and a longer version found in the Hebrew tradition of the MT. Benjamin J. M. Johnson proposes that each version is worthy of study in its own right and offers a close literary reading of the narrative of David and Goliath in the Greek text of 1 Reigns 16-18. The author explores a method for reading the Septuagint that recognizes it is both a document in its own right and a translation of a Hebrew original. In offering a reading of the septuagintal version of the David and Goliath narrative, the literary difference between the two versions of the story and the literary significance of the Greek translation are highlighted.

Book excerpt: Written by a three times cancer survivor, this book is a must-read for anyone facing and fighting cancer as well as for their caregivers. Called from a scientific background into Christian ministry, Philip has the ideal background to furnish valuable factual advice and spiritual counsel to his readers. He shares candidly about how God helped him overcome malignant melanoma and prostate cancer and about his present struggles against multiple myeloma. Philip sees no conflict between receiving medical treatment and exercising faith in God for healing. His book is packed with faith-building encouragement and will empower and inspire the reader to fight cancer and win. Endorsement: If there's one thing that Philip achieves in his book, it's giving hope! In dealing with cancer, hope is certainly not a luxury but a necessity. He also answers some very pertinent questions. Well done! -Leonard Stone, Senior Pastor: Maranatha Community Church; National Leader of The Christian Network (TCN), South Africa. I enjoyed reading Philip's book - he has been my patient ever since he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2017. I have witnessed first-hand his courageous battles against this disease which he refers to as his "Goliath." He shares valuable insights and medically sound advice out of the wealth of his personal experience. I believe that what he writes will be a source of encouragement and hope to any cancer sufferer. -Dr Sarita Retief, Oncologist, Nelspruit Mediclinic. About the Author: Pastor Phil, as he is affectionately known, has pastored Living Waters Church in Sabie, South Africa, for the past thirty-four years. Recently retired from pastoral ministry, he is now pursuing a career as a Christian writer. As a person who has thrice survived cancer, he feels called to encourage and coach others fighting the disease. Philip and Desirée have been happily married for 42 years. They have three children and three grandchildren.

The well known Bible story of David and Goliath is the back drop that Steven A. Cramer uses to show how we can enlist the aid of the Lord in overcoming any of our problems. In our day, we do not have to face nine-foot giants physically, but often our Goliaths come in the form of spiritual giants that will not yield to a stone or sword.

The words in each poem carry such a richness that connects, comforts, and inspires the human spirit in a way that is thoughtful and transforming.” —Dr. Tecsia Evans This is a collection of poems and art inspirations that I enjoyed writing and painting for more than forty years. The art images are from my Chaos collection. They depict the chaotic lives we live before meeting Christ in black and white. Through coloration, they then show how his love can change our lives forever, making them full of life and beauty. My hope is that you find inspiration, encouragement, and joy in the reading of this book.

Book excerpt: A remarkable autobiographical journey from humble beginnings to a position as a powerful world figure fighting for her nation’s self-determination. Along the ancient Silk Road where Europe, Asia, and Russia converge stands the four-thousand-year-old homeland of a peaceful people, the Uyghurs. Their culture is filled with music, dance, family, and love of tradition passed down by storytelling through the ages. For millennia, they have survived clashes in the shadow of China, Russia, and Central Asia. Rebiya Kadeer’s courage, intellect, morality, and sacrifice give hope to the nearly eleven million Uyghurs worldwide on whose behalf she speaks as an indomitable world leader for the freedom of her people and the sovereignty of her nation. Her life story is one of legends: as a refugee child, as a poor housewife, as a multimillionaire, as a high official in China’s National People’s Congress, as a political prisoner in solitary confinement for two of nearly six years in jail, and now as a political dissident living in Washington, DC, exiled from her own land.
