Download or read book My Precious Life written by Patricia Ann Boyes and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-06-16 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pain and poverty paved the way to peace and spiritual prosperity in the life of the author, Patricia Ann Boyes, ordinary person. In this memoir, she takes us from a three-year-old child witnessing her mothers brutal beatings, to a seventeen-year-old suffering the throes of childbirth; through a bitter marriage breakdown, and on to new love, entrepreneurship, and a battle with cancer. This memoir will not compare with that of the rich and famous or with the extraordinary drama of the Malalas of the world, but it may compare in some ways with the lives of other ordinary people who also have a story to tell, lessons to learn, and obstacles to overcome. Its a story of believing Gods promises and learning lifes lessons. Someone once said, Dont die with your words or your music still in you. The author has taken this advice.

Book Synopsis The Locked Safe: A Family Memoir by : Miriam E. David
Download or read book The Locked Safe: A Family Memoir written by Miriam E. David and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2024-06-19 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This family memoir is my back story. A Locked Safe with 5 ‘Nazi’ passports was found after my mother died in 1996. My father had died 16 years earlier. Although we knew he was a German Jewish professional engineer fleeing Nazism in 1936, we did not know the details of how his family fled. The help of my mother’s family, the Leas, was essential. They had fled from pogroms in Ukraine/Russia in the late nineteenth century. Some were also caught up with Japanese internment camps in China, illustrating the diasporic nature of my family. My father, his elder brother and father were also interned by the British in 1940-1941. I look forward to not only my generation as the so-called second generation from the Holocaust, but also the third generation, specifically my daughter Charlotte Reiner Hershman. Although we tell a unique story of one family, that story of migration, seeking asylum or refuge and being exiled is a very frequent tale nowadays. In excavating my parents’ backgrounds and their influences on me and Charlotte, we show the long term psychological and social effects on our lives and possibly on future generations.

Book Synopsis LADY LEADER LEAVES LASTING LEGACY by : Alice Astafan
Download or read book LADY LEADER LEAVES LASTING LEGACY written by Alice Astafan and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2023-11-08 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the story of my life, a lady who grew up on a small farm in the Deep South, and how I was able to reach the top of my career field, serving as a two-star general at the Pentagon. Women have served, both in and out of uniform, in defense of this country since the beginning of our nation. Serving the United States Air Force in uniform was my career choice. This book is an outgrowth of the review of publicity surrounding my military career, both active and reserves, and follow-on civilian career, and of the inventory of the more than 100 speeches I gave when I reached the top of my career field. Audiences in the 1980s and 90s were surprised to learn of the original roadblocks, both laws and policies, which precluded me, a woman, from setting goals at the beginning of my military journey in 1960 to reach the level to which I finally achieved during my career in uniform. All I had when in uniform were male mentors, because there were no females to which I could look for guidance and success stories. Indeed, my accomplishments led to the glass ceiling being opened wide for the other ladies who came after me and were recognized for their ability and talents to serve and excel at higher levels of leadership. Friends who know of my accomplishments implored me to put pen to paper to show how I, as a young girl could —with hard work, tenacity, stick-to-it-iveness and using lessons learned in early years —propel myself to the forefront, leading to success. Come with me as I take you back to the beginning, to my first role models: my mother and father who set examples for me and taught me lessons that would propel me even further than a little 1940's farm girl from Oakman, Alabama could have imagined. I hope you'll be inspired to see where my dreams took me, finding love, heartbreak, adventure and prestige along the way.

Book Synopsis To Trust or Not To Trust - Love's Labours Lost. A Sad Family Story by : Manny & Brigitta Davidson

This book was released on 2018-07-26 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manny and Brigitta Davidson are a remarkable couple. Their parents, emigrés from Latvia and from Nazi-occupied Poland, strove to keep their heads above water and give their children a future in which to prosper. Together, Manny and Brigitta built a business empire from nothing, having survived the terrible Blitz on London during the Second World War. Their two children, however, have lived altogether different lives. Charmed lives, some might say. The Davidsons' business did so well that their offspring went to the finest schools, enjoyed luxury holidays and lived in beautiful homes here and abroad. As their success grew, the Davidsons set up a trust fund for their son and daughter, with two purposes. First, to provide generous incomes for them - it is currently delivering approximately £20 million a year. The second purpose was to protect the family's wealth for the future benefit of their children and further generations. That wealth included the beautiful Jacobean manor, Lyegrove House in Gloucestershire, and all its priceless contents of art and other treasures. Sadly, their children decided that they would wait no longer before laying claim to all that their parents had provided, and seized control of the trust in a cruel and punishing way, which led to legal action, and even to court. Today, the Davidsons live in Monaco, estranged from their son and daughter. They have lost their children, as surely as those children have lost their parents. This is their story, in which they can be forgiven for echoing Shakespeare's line: 'How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child.'

Book Synopsis Descendants of William Cromartie and Ruhamah Doane by : Amanda Cook Gilbert
Download or read book Descendants of William Cromartie and Ruhamah Doane written by Amanda Cook Gilbert and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 795 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ambitious work chronicles 250 years of the Cromartie Family genealogical history. Included in the index of nearly 50,000 names are the current generations, and all of those preceding, which trace ancestry to our family patriarch, William Cromartie who was born in 1731 in Orkney, Scotland and his second wife, Ruhamah Doane who was born in 1745. Arriving in America in 1758, William Cromartie settled and developed a plantation on South River, a tributary of the Cape Fear near Wilmington, North Carolina. On April 2, 1766, William married Ruhamah Doane, a fifth generation descendant of a Mayflower passenger to Plymouth, Stephen Hopkins. If Cromartie is your last name, or that of one of your blood relatives, it is almost certain that you can trace your ancestry to one of the thirteen children of William Cromartie, his first wife, and Ruhamah Doane, who became the founding ancestors of our Cromartie Family in America: William Jr, James, Thankful, Elizabeth, Hannah Ruhamah, Alexander, John, Margaret Nancy, Mary, Catherine, Jean, Peter Patrick, and Ann E. Cromartie. These four volumes hold an account of the descent of each of these first-generation Cromarties in America, including personal antidotes, photographs, copies of family Bibles, wills and other historical documents. Their pages hold a personal record of our ancestors and where you belong in the Cromartie Family Tree.

Book Synopsis Bill Clinton: An American Journey by : Nigel Hamilton
Download or read book Bill Clinton: An American Journey written by Nigel Hamilton and published by Random House. This book was released on 2003-09-30 with total page 821 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bill Clinton, forty-second president of the United States, is the quintessential baby boomer: on the one hand blessed with a near-genius IQ, on the other, beset by character flaws that made his presidency a veritable soap opera of high ideals, distressing incompetence, model financial stewardship, and domestic misbehavior. In an era of cultural civil war, the Clinton administration fed the public an almost daily diet of scandal and misfortune. Who is Bill Clinton, though, and how did this baby-boom saga begin? Clinton’s upbringing in Arkansas and his student years at Georgetown, Oxford, and Yale universities help us to see his life not only as a personal story but as the story of modern America. Behind the closed doors of the house on the hill above Park Avenue in Hot Springs, the struggle between Clinton’s stepfather and mother became ultimately unbearable, causing Virginia to move out and divorce Roger Clinton. Dreading confrontation, Bill Clinton excelled in almost every field save athletics. But the fabled success of the scholarship boy would be marred by the decisions he came to make regarding Vietnam and military service—choices that haunt him to this day. We watch with a mixture of alarm, fascination, and awe as Bill Clinton does so much that is right—and so much that is wrong. He sets his cap for the star student at Yale, young Hillary Rodham, seducing her with his dreams of a better America and an aw-shucks grin. Wherever he goes, he charms and disarms—young and old, men and women...and more women. He becomes a law professor straight out of college; he contests a congressional election in his twenties—and almost wins it. He becomes attorney general of his state and within two years is set to become the youngest-ever governor of Arkansas, at only thirty-two. Yet, always, there is a curse, a drive toward personal self-destruction—and with that the destruction of all those who are helping him on his legendary path. His affair with Gennifer Flowers strains his marriage and later nearly scuttles his bid for the presidency. He is thrown out of the governor’s office after only one term and suffers a life-shaking crisis of confidence. Though with the stalwart help of a female chief of staff he regains his crown, it is clear that Bill Clinton’s charismatic career is a ceaseless tightrope walk above the forces that threaten to pull him down—the most potent of them residing in his own being. Imbued with sympathy, deep intelligence, and the storyteller’s art, this extraordinary biography helps us, at last, to understand the real Bill Clinton as he stumbles and withdraws from the 1988 presidential nomination race but enters it four years later, to make one of the most astonishing bids for the presidency in the twentieth century: the climax of this gripping political, social, and scandalous journey.
