Personal experiences are described and explored using the heuristic research model. Heuristic investigation was used because of individual nature of the phenomenon of awakening to community and through it a deep level of understanding of the phenomenon was allowed to surface. A literature review of books, journals and dissertations revealed that no similar study had been completed, but did reveal a wealth of material on various aspects of community, how they are formed, how they change and adjust and how the people in them change and adjust over time. The material for the study was obtained through self-searching and co-researcher participation and was deemed original by the researcher. An immersion into the researcher's own experiencing of awakening to community was undertaken by the researcher. Data was obtained from ten co-researchers' personal experiences of awakening to community. Each interview was tape-recorded, transcribed and reviewed for themes. All major themes, which emerged from these interviews and the researcher's self-searching, were identified and illustrated. The identified theses were: I. Trust, A. Connectedness, B. Belonging, C. Acceptance, II. Support, III. Void in life filled/Relief, IV. Joy. The identified themes depicted the feelings experienced by my co-researchers' in the moment of awakening to community. The attitudes of my co-researchers impacted on their life adjustment to their new communities. A portrait of one of my co-researchers and a creative synthesis were written. The findings of this study could be used by educators, clinicians, and companies transferring employees to new communities.
