This book was released on 2018 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lesser Antilles are an almost homogeneous insular region situated at the core of the Caribbean, identified as a remarkably rich biodiversity hotspot of the western Atlantic. Featuring a total of more than one thousand crustacean species, Les Crustacés décapodes des Petites Antilles presents for the first time the documented inventory of the shrimps, lobsters, hermit crabs, and crabs of the region. This French-language inventory is based on a literature search of roughly six-hundred scientific contributions published over more than two centuries and integrates American, French, Dutch, and Venezuelan research efforts. Also included are some unpublished data from recent expeditions to the French islands of Saint Martin, Guadeloupe, and Martinique. Readers will find an up-to-date list of the species that both complies with the latest taxonomic revisions and supplies the source of each record. An analysis of the list provides: a sampling history of the islands; the result of the inventory presented by families, islands, and archipelagos; documentation of the major ecological habitats; a zoogeographic appraisal distinguishing marine and freshwater fauna; and the prospects for new discoveries of undescribed species. This work illustrates many species in color, with photographs taken in the laboratory and in the field.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The freshwaters of the Comoros, Mascarenes and Seychelles (three archipelagos of the Western Indian Ocean) harbour a high biodiversity: 61 fish and 22 decapod crustacean species are known, 12 of which are endemic to this area of the world. The first chapter of this book is dedicated to the history of the various scientific expeditions, inventories and species introductions that have occurred since the 18th century. This is followed by separate accounts of the decapod crustaceans and fish, each of which begins with a key to the identification of species. Each species is then described in a separate entry, with a photograph or drawing, detailing its biology and distribution in the Western Indian Ocean. The aim of this book is to serve as a contribution to the conservation and management of aquatic communities, but it is also aimed at natural scientists, teachers, researchers, fishermen, and ornamental fish-keepers.

Book excerpt: With more than 6000 photographs of marine fishes this book sets a new benchmark for their identification. It provides the greatest possible coverage and is aimed primarily to assist people interested in marine fishes and their scientific names or classification. Presented here are the fishes one is likely to see when diving or snorkeling in the sea, as well as those that are traded in the aquarium industry. This World Atlas includes both tropical and temperate fishes. Depending on the size and popularity of the groups or families, introductions to these provide general information, distribution and habitat, number of species, interesting facts on behavior and aquarium suitability. In the case of very large families like wrasses, damsels or gobies, separate introductions may be dedicated to each distinctive group or subfamily. The greatest possible number of photographs is used on a page, but in sizes that clearly identify the fish. Variable species may be illustrated with more than one picture. In all, included are some 4,200 species. This is an invaluable reference book for the great variety of marine fishes found in the world's seas. As such it addresses all fish enthusiasts - divers, snorkelers, fish watchers, fisherman, reef surveyors, aquarists, ichthyologists and bio-geographers.
