Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consisting of a series of addresses largely based on the church year, In His Service focuses on addresses which were given by the author during the last 56 years. This is a down-to-earth book, which aims to show that the bible is relevant to the modern world and can be appreciated by all people – not just church goers. In His Service is easy to read, set out in a ‘thought of the day’ style, with each section complete in itself. In addition to the addresses for the great church seasons, such as Easter and Christmas, there are addresses for special occasions such as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the commemoration of the outbreak of World War I. As well as a scriptual base, history, geography, law and politics are scattered throughout, in addition to beautiful photographs that illustrate the church of the Leicestershire area and in Poland where he has worked. Foreword from Rt. Rev’d Tim Stevens, Bishop of Leicester, 1999-2015: “It is a very remarkable thing to be able to look back over 56 years of preaching, as Derek has done here. It is even more remarkable to see the consistent quality and clarity of the straightforward Christian message that Derek has laid out over those years.”

Book excerpt: Dr. Mufeed Ibrahim Said's words: This is a small book of significant value, written by a woman of great humility. It is rich in its contents, and it enriches those who are fortunate to study it. Faiza's life was summarized by many callings by the Lord and her obedient response to the Lord's calls. When she was fifteen years old, she attended a revival meeting in Beni Suef, Egypt, during which she heard the invitation of the Lord Jesus to accept His salvation by grace. She accepted immediately and submitted her life at that moment to the Lord as her life was forever changed. Rev. Esper Ajjaj's words: What do we say about someone who devoted his entire life to the service of the Lord Jesus? This is Rev. Hanna Ibrahim who served the Lord in his life and his words and sermons. His family followed his steps in love and in service.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christian faith once meant that a believer responded to a dark world by word and by deed. However, a modern, self-centered church has isolated the faith to a pietism that relinquishes charitable responsibility to the state. The end result has been the empowering of a humanistic world order. In addition, God's great and redeeming power is virtually limited to saving souls from eternal destruction. In Biblical terms, the priority if God's Kingdom first, and all our acts of mercy and benevolence must be in terms of that grand mission. We are God's servants - we dare not expect God to serve our needs ahead of His Kingdom. It is now difficult for the church to recover the Biblical meaning of words like charity and compassion because post-World War II liberalism has redefined them politically into state welfarism. This redefinition has made charity a political tool to retain social order and made the state the primary agency of compassion. Charity is no longer personal. But Biblical compassion flows from our having first received the grace of God and then manifesting it to others. Therefore, Biblical charity - which is compassion in action - is personal: it begins with God's mercy towards us, and then the people of God give expression to that at an individual level. It is in His service that we understand out calling to charity. In this book, Rushdoony elucidates the Christian's calling to charity and its implications for godly dominion. In an age when Christian action is viewed in political terms, a return to Christian works of compassion and Godly service will help usher in a return of the reign of God as no piece of legislation ever could.

Book excerpt: The Spirit of service is in trouble in America. The idea of service is not what it once was. Several decades of 'me-first' attitude have played havoc with the concept of service. This is unfortunate because God put us on this Earth to serve one another and to share His love. Educators are in the ideal profession to carry out God's will. It is the author's hope that this book will help educators mentally, emotionally and spiritually survive the difficult times, as well as celebrate and focus on the joys of the teaching profession. This book is divided into the months of the school year (August through June). The challenges and joys of each month of the school year are explored and celebrated. Because of the busy schedule most keep as educators, the format of this book is set up for approximately two readings per week.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now a Major Motion Picture Directed by American Sniper Writer Jason Hall and Starring Miles Teller No journalist has reckoned with the psychology of war as intimately as David Finkel. In The Good Soldiers, his bestselling account from the front lines of Baghdad, Finkel embedded with the men of the 2-16 Infantry Battalion as they carried out the infamous “surge”. Now, in Thank You for Your Service, Finkel tells the true story of those men as they return home from the front-lines of Baghdad and struggle to reintegrate--both into their family lives and into American society at large. Finkel is with these veterans in their most intimate, painful, and hopeful moments as they try to recover, and in doing so, he creates an indelible, essential portrait of what life after war is like--not just for these soldiers, but for their wives, widows, children, and friends, and for the professionals who are truly trying, and to a great degree failing, to undo the damage that has been done. Thank You for Your Service is an act of understanding, and it offers a more complete picture than we have ever had of two essential questions: When we ask young men and women to go to war, what are we asking of them? And when they return, what are we thanking them for? “Finkel sketches a panoramic view of postwar life....A book that every American should read.” —Jake Tapper, Los Angeles Times Finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and the New York Public Library Helen Bernstein Award for Excellence in Journalism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mrs. Dalley's book is the kind of reading you can't put off until later. After she retired, she was called by God into the mission field, and her writing puts you in the field with her. You share her tears, her joys, her faith, and the laughter. Alene traveled the world, but not to the usual comfortable tourist locations the countries had to offer. She ventured into the lives of the common people where she might share the love of Jesus and provide hope where there was despair. She shared their simple lives, often sleeping in her bag on the ground or a cot, and giving up the comforts we take for granted. She was confronted by obstacles which only prayer could overcome. If you've ever considered serving God in a similar manner, this is the book for you. Alene Dalley writes, "There are many different types of mission trips. There are also many different kinds of accomodations. For those of you who are not as adventurous or like the comforts of home, there are mission trips for you, too. The stories in this book are true experiences on the mission field. I pray that you will enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed living them."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tunisia became one of the largest sources of foreign fighters for the Islamic State—even though the country stands out as a democratic bright spot of the Arab uprisings and despite the fact that it had very little history of terrorist violence within its borders prior to 2011. In Your Sons Are at Your Service, Aaron Y. Zelin uncovers the longer history of Tunisian involvement in the jihadi movement and offers an in-depth examination of the reasons why so many Tunisians became drawn to jihadism following the 2011 revolution. Zelin highlights the longer-term causes that affected jihadi recruitment in Tunisia, including the prior history of Tunisians joining jihadi organizations and playing key roles in far-flung parts of the world over the past four decades. He contends that the jihadi group Ansar al-Sharia in Tunisia was able to take advantage of the universal prisoner amnesty, increased openness, and the lack of governmental policy toward it after the revolution. In turn, this provided space for greater recruitment and subsequent mobilization to fight abroad once the Tunisian government cracked down on the group in 2013. Zelin marshals cutting-edge empirical findings, extensive primary source research, and on-the-ground fieldwork, including a variety of documents in Arabic going as far back as the 1980s and interviews with Ansar al-Sharia members and Tunisian fighters returning from Syria. The first book on the history of the Tunisian jihadi movement, Your Sons Are at Your Service is a meticulously researched account that challenges simplified views of jihadism’s appeal and success.
