Download or read book The Artful Manager written by E. Andrew Taylor and published by Arts Axis LLC. This book was released on 2021-05-19 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if we fundamentally misunderstood what it meant to run arts organizations "like a business"? What if our management metaphors actually contribute to the problems we hope they will solve? In these 50 "field notes" from his first quarter century of teaching, research, and consulting in arts and cultural management, E. Andrew Taylor reframes and reimagines the ways we think and work in the arts. "Andrew Taylor has an uncanny ability to find the small things that make a big difference and provokes his large readership to think outside their own areas of expertise. Doubtful there is anyone blogging on the arts who is more respected and beloved." Barry Hessenius
Download or read book Fredrik Værslev written by Ina Blom and published by Sternberg Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary Norwegian painter Fredrik Vrslev (b. 1979) presents his new series in this deconstructed exhibition catalog/artists book, All Around Amateur. Inspired by sunsets taken with his iPhone, Vrslev re-creates the images on canvas by using a mechanical trolley used for marking lines on roads or sports fields. The rows of applied color are rubbed into the canvas resulting in resonant toned paintings mimicking the glow of the sun. The paintings are installed to create a massive line of shimmering tones recalling the color field paintings of Rothko. The artist book, accompanying the solo exhibition at Bergen Kunsthall, is available as two different versions, each made up of 320 one-to-one digital images scanned from eight of the new sunset paintings and reproduced in the book sequentially, left to right, top to bottom. Full-bleed scans in each volume together reproduce an entire wall of paintings. Following the images are newly commissioned texts by Ina Blom, Martin Clark, and Steinar Sekkingstad plus an interview with artist Anne Pontgnie.

Book Synopsis Inside the Painter's Studio by : Joe Fig
Download or read book Inside the Painter's Studio written by Joe Fig and published by Chronicle Books. This book was released on 2012-06-19 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inside an art gallery, it is easy to forget that the paintings there are the end products of a process involving not only creative inspiration, but also plenty of physical and logistical details. It is these "cruder," more mundane aspects of a painter's daily routine that motivated Brooklyn artist Joe Fig to embark almost ten years ago on a highly unorthodox, multilayered exploration of the working life of the professional artist. Determined to ground his research in the physical world, Fig began constructing a series of diorama-like miniature reproductions of the studios of modern art's most legendary painters, such as Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning. A desire for firsthand references led Fig to approach contemporary artists for access to their studios. Armed with a camera and a self-made "Artist's Questionnaire," Fig began a journey through the workspaces of some of today's most exciting contemporary artists.

This book was released on 2016-09-10 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Handbook of Young Artists and Amateurs in Oilpainting: Being Chiefly a Condensed Compilation From the Celebrated Manual of Bouvier; With Additional Matter Selected From the Labors of Merimee, De Montabert and Other Distinguished Continental Writers in the Art But let it not be supposed that with this initiation of the young, the as yet profanum vulgus, into the mysteries of our art, the Handbook finishes its func tions. The forty-three years' study and experience, the great good-sense, sound perceptions, and perfect sincerity of the artist-author whom I have chosen as my principal guide, and the undiminished popularity of his Manual, not only with learners but with artists of established name, (indeed we may say with all in any way connected with the art, including the manu facturers of its materials), on the continent of Europe, - added to this, the care bestowed by the compiler in the diligent collation of other authorities, - warrant the assumption, that even for the professed artist there will be found something useful in the following pages; and a translated passage, which on the fifth page takes the place of a motto, shows that Bouvier himself anticipated such an extension of the field of his usefulness. Book excerpt: "Anna Anthropy is a key personality in the ongoing paradigm shift that is slowly changing the way videogames are understood, by creators and players, and by the wider culture." —Patrick Alexander, Eegra.com "Equal parts autobiography, ethnography, and how-to manual, this book concisely makes the case for the unique power of 'zinester' games." —Adam Parrish, NYU's Interactive Telecommunication Program (Tisch School of the Arts), and author of the ZZT game "Winter" "These days, everybody can make and distribute a photograph, or a video, or a book. Rise of the Videogame Zinesters shows you that everyone can make a videogame, too. But why should they? For Anna Anthropy, it's not for fame or for profit, but for the strange, aimless beauty of personal creativity.” —Ian Bogost, Director, Graduate Program in Digital Media, Georgia Institute of Technology "Rise is a great guidebook to understanding—and more importantly, participating in—this dynamically evolving culture." —Jim Munroe, co-founder of the Hand Eye Society and the Difference Engine Initiative “Here, Anna Anthropy demonstrates how people from every background and walk of life are breaking free of the commercial cowardice of major publishers, and bringing their individual visions of the game to life. . . . If game design is to be an art, as those of us who love games fervently hope, it must be rescued from its crushing commercial pressures. You can be a part of its future.” —Greg Costikyan, author of I Have No Mouth and I Must Design "Anna gives the world of video games a crucial perspective from her seat of authority within outsider culture, and illustrates how essential it is for the space to empower voices of all kinds if it is to evolve." —Leigh Alexander, editor-at-large of Gamasutra
