Book Synopsis Elwyn Richardson and the Early World of Creative Education in New Zealand by : Margaret MacDonald
Download or read book Elwyn Richardson and the Early World of Creative Education in New Zealand written by Margaret MacDonald and published by Nzcer Press. This book was released on 2016-01-01 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a one-roomed school in the remote Far North of New Zealand, Elwyn Richardson became a radical and internationally-renowned teacher. This is his story and it is as inspirational and timely for educators and policy makers as ever. Central to his philosophy was his use of the natural environment to create an integrated programme of art and science. This book explores the man and the influence of the innovative pedagogy he developed at Oruaiti School from 1949 to 1962. Described as an 'educational saboteur' by poet James K. Baxter, Richardson valued curiosity and turned to children's lives and their immediate surroundings to shape his curriculum. Learning was often organised in themes and students worked together on real problems drawn from the local community. The record of his teaching at Oruaiti, In the Early World, first published in 1964, was widely used in teacher education in New Zealand and the United States.

Initial chapters discuss how to recognise and build on existing artistic abilities and pedagogical skills, how to encourage children’s creativity, how to lead arts appreciation experiences, and the general principles of pedagogies, planning and assessment. Part 1 ends with an example unit of Inquiry Programming: Patterns around us. Part 2 specifically examines the five arts areas: dance, drama, media arts, music and visual arts. Authentic, local visuals demonstrate real learning environments in a contemporary setting. This book was released on 2021-09-21 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The change process is described in this text which examines the historical, social and economic influences on education policy reform. Chapters look at cross-cultural experiences of educational change and policy implementation as the authors lead us to an understanding of processes and forces involved. The three themes covered in this volume are: politics and reform; politics into policy and policy implementation; and educational reform phenomena. The authors argue that change takes a predictable format and, once understood, can be directed and managed.; This text is intended to be of interest to those involved in the planning and implementation of change and, along with Volume 2 "Case Studies in Educational Change", point the way to effective management of such change processes.
Book Synopsis Art and Exoticism by : Paul van der Grijp
Download or read book Art and Exoticism written by Paul van der Grijp and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2009 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the yearning for authenticity via art and exoticism. Exoticism related to art cannot be reduced to primitivism alone and also encompasses a search in one's own unconsciousness among other things. The yearning for authenticity through exoticism is explored in a cultural anthropological perspective in the realms of Western philosophy (capita selecta) and colonial literature, currents of art, and in the appreciation of Western art conceptions in non-Western societies. An array of firsthand ethnographic illustrations of art production in Asian and Pacific societies demonstrates complementary processes in the non-Western world. A major hypothesis is that exoticism is closely related to, and often motivated by eroticism, a reason why exoticism should be considered as gendered. Case studies of the falsification of authentic art, the de-sacralization of sacred objects, and of the use of natural materials deriving from endangered species complete the analysis.
