Book excerpt: In the wee hours of December 16, 1773, Boston, Massachusetts, citizens, in a feat of magnificent defiance, joined together in a tea party that would breathe into being the American Revolution, a conservative constitution, a sovereign people, and the United States. Today, more than two hundred years later, it's time for a new revolution. In Renegades: Their Betrayal of America, Her Rebellion and Response, author Robert Harkins outlines the reasons for a new revolution. It's not the British we must defy but the intellectual elite, whom Harkins calls the renegade liberal—as did George Orwell in his unpublished preface to Animal Farm. The intellectual elite seek to dismantle American civilization and diminish people they believe are so intellectually vacuous and religiously provincial they must, in all things great and small, be carefully monitored and told precisely what and how to think, believe, and live. This cannot be. Americans must discover again their ancient roots, their mythos, creed, and identity. They must commit themselves again to moral and rational excellence. Renegades: Their Betrayal of America, Her Rebellion and Response is a tribute to American virtue and serves a starting point for Americans to return to excellence. 'Renegades: Their Betrayal of America, Her Rebellion and Response is a historic treasure. Robert Harkins's understanding of history, culture, and America is unsurpassed; and these pages will reveal why past civilizations have gone extinct. More importantly, Harkins's words are a roadmap for each of us to preserve liberty and freedom for our children and grandchildren right here in America, man's last best hope on earth.' Jeff Crank, radio talk show host and Colorado Director of Americans for Prosperity Robert Harkins received his law degree from St. Mary's University in Texas, where he received honors for exceptional scholastic excellence in the disciplines of federal and constitutional law. He taught business and constitutional law as a guest teacher at the University of Texas and served as a Texas judge for seven years, during which time he graduated from the Texas and National Colleges of the Judiciary. He now lives with his wife, Hyosuk, in Colorado.

Author Amy Jo Martin is the founder of Digital Royalty and the woman who pioneered how professional sports integrate social media. People want to be heard, to be involved, to be entertained, to be adventurous, to be informed. Reveals the winning strategies for using social media to achieve dramatic results Shows how to gain influence with social media that requires an unprecedented (and potentially uncomfortable) level of accessibility and ongoing affinity Filled with illustrative examples of social media successes (including Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, and Nike) that show how humanizing a brand through social media leads to monetization Explores how Amy Jo Martin and other successful entrepreneurs are becoming renegades by using social media to innovate their personal and professional lives The book reveals one of the basic rules of digital media success: Humans connect with humans, not logos and creative taglines.

Excerpt: The Orlando Renegades were a professional American football team that played in the United States Football League in the mid-1980s. The Renegades started out in 1983 as the Washington Federals and played in Washington, D.C.'s Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium under the ownership of prominent Washington attorney Berl Bernhard. The team lured Ray Jauch to be its head coach; he had previously guided the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to success in the Canadian Football League. At the time he was the fourth-winningest coach in CFL history. The Federals finished 4-14, tied for the worst record in the league. However, they were far more competitive than their record indicated. Eight of their losses were by a touchdown or less. They had a fair amount of offensive talent skill players with comparatively good depth. More than any other team in the league, the Federals seemed dogged by inconsistency, bad timing, and terrible luck. A week before the season even began, their player personnel expert bolted to the NFL's New York Jets. The first game in franchise history was a portent of things to come; the Federals were drilled at RFK 28-7 by the Chicago Blitz, the preseason title favorites coached by former Washington Redskins coach George Allen. The game was played on March 6, 1983, just five weeks after the Redskins defeated the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XVII. The Blitz, led by former Lions and Colts Quarterback Greg Landry, raced out to...

From the high-country vineyards of the Verde Valley to the rolling plateaus of Sonoita and Willcox, pioneering winemakers are producing nationally acclaimed, award-winning wines. While the 1970s are recognized as launching the modern-day industry, Arizona's viticulture dates back much further. The Spanish and Jesuit missionaries introduced European winemaking to the Southwest, and the 1800s saw the introduction of Arizona's first wineries. Join author Christina Barrueta on this fascinating journey and meet the pioneers and visionaries who are forging their own paths to build America's newest wine region.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General George Crook planned and organized the principal Apache campaign in Arizona, and General Nelson Miles took credit for its successful conclusion on the 1800s, but the men who really won it were rugged frontiersmen such as Al Sieber, the renowned Chief of Scouts. Crook relied on Sieber to lead Apache scouts against renegade Apaches, who were adept at hiding and raiding from within their native terrain. In this carefully researched biography, Dan L. Thrapp gives extensive evidence for Sieber’s expertise, noting that the expeditions he accompanied were highly successful whereas those from which he was absent met with few triumphs. Perhaps the greatest tribute to his abilities was paid by a San Carlos Apache who, no matter how miserable life might become, because, he said, Sieber would find him even if he left no tracks.

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Two longtime friends share an intimate and urgent conversation about life, music, and their enduring love of America, with all its challenges and contradictions, in this stunningly produced expansion of their groundbreaking Higher Ground podcast, featuring more than 350 photographs, exclusive bonus content, and never-before-seen archival material. Renegades: Born in the USA is a candid, revealing, and entertaining dialogue between President Barack Obama and legendary musician Bruce Springsteen that explores everything from their origin stories and career-defining moments to our country’s polarized politics and the growing distance between the American Dream and the American reality. Filled with full-color photographs and rare archival material, it is a compelling and beautifully illustrated portrait of two outsiders—one Black and one white—looking for a way to connect their unconventional searches for meaning, identity, and community with the American story itself. It includes: • Original introductions by President Obama and Bruce Springsteen • Exclusive new material from the Renegades podcast recording sessions • Obama’s never-before-seen annotated speeches, including his “Remarks at the 50th Anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery Marches” • Springsteen’s handwritten lyrics for songs spanning his 50-year-long career • Rare and exclusive photographs from the authors’ personal archives • Historical photographs and documents that provide rich visual context for their conversation In a recording studio stocked with dozens of guitars, and on at least one Corvette ride, Obama and Springsteen discuss marriage and fatherhood, race and masculinity, the lure of the open road and the call back to home. They also compare notes on their favorite protest songs, the most inspiring American heroes of all time, and more. Along the way, they reveal their passion for—and the occasional toll of—telling a bigger, truer story about America throughout their careers, and explore how our fractured country might begin to find its way back toward unity and global leadership.

Duty-bound and charged with restoring law to the land, his real motivations rest in the hope of tracking down the owner of an ornate silver Concho, the only clue left by banditos who murdered his first wife and one true love. Raised by Native Americans, this slow-talking, fast-shooting son of two worlds is continually confronted with the choice to ignore the evil around him, or put an end to those who prey on the innocent. The job of a U.S. Marshall takes him on many adventures such as transporting a prisoner through desolate canyons, overthrowing corruption in a frontier town, and establishing an outpost near the border as the first and only line of defense. Each episode requires cunning, marksmanship, and sacrifice as friends and loved ones are caught up in the conflict. Through it all, Clayton Banner is driven to do what is right and to protect those around him.
