Book Synopsis A Method of Calculating Turbulent-boundary-layer Growth at Hypersonic Mach Numbers by : James C. Sivells
Download or read book A Method of Calculating Turbulent-boundary-layer Growth at Hypersonic Mach Numbers written by James C. Sivells and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is developed for calculating the growth of a turbulent boundary layer at hypersonic Mach numbers. Excellent agreement with experimental results from axisymmetric nozzles has been obtained by the application of this method. The method utilizes a modification of Stewartson's transformation to simplify the integration of the momentum equation. Heat transfer is taken into account by evaluating the gas properties at Eckert's reference temperature and by using a modification of Crocco's quadratic for the temperature distribution in the boundary layer. A new empirical relation is used for the incompressible friction coefficient which agrees with experimental data over a Reynold's number range from 10(superscript 5) to 10(superscript 9).
Book Synopsis Approximations for the Thermodynamic and Transport Properties of High-temperature Air by : C. Frederick Hansen
Download or read book Approximations for the Thermodynamic and Transport Properties of High-temperature Air written by C. Frederick Hansen and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thermodynamic and transport prorerties of high-temperature air are found in closed form starting from approximate partition functions for the major components in air and neglecting all minor components. The compressibility, energy, entropy, the specific heats, the speed of sound, the coefficients of viscosity and of thermal conductivity, and the Prandtl numbers for air are tabulated from 500 degrees to 15,000 degrees K over a range of pressure from 0.0001 to 100 atmospheres. The enthalpy of air and the mol fractions of the major components of air can easily be found from the tabulated values for compressibility and energy. It is predicted that the Prandtl number for fully ionized air will become small compared to unity, the order of 0.01, and this implies that boundary layers in such flow will be very transparent to heat flux.

Book Synopsis Heat Transfer in Structures by : H. Schuh
Download or read book Heat Transfer in Structures written by H. Schuh and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-16 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat Transfer in Structures discusses the heat flow problems directly related to structures. A large section of the book presents the heat conduction in solids. The fundamentals of the analytical method are covered briefly, while introduction on the use of semi-analytical methods is treated in detail. Various approximate methods and finite difference methods are fully explained. The description of structural elements is dealt with extensively. The subject of analogues for finding temperature distributions are briefly discussed, while similarity laws and model testing are covered more comprehensively. Another topic of interest is the heat flow inside the solid part of an ablating body which is covered in detail. Thermal conductance across interfaces and joints are analyzed. And a thorough discussion of the steady heat flow is provided. A section of the text covers the simple structural elements. The book will provide useful information to aeronautics, astronautics, mechanics, engineers, and students of the physical sciences.

Book Synopsis A Method for Measuring the Product of Inertia and the Inclination of the Principal Longitudinal Axis of Inertia of an Airplane by : Robert W. Boucher
Download or read book A Method for Measuring the Product of Inertia and the Inclination of the Principal Longitudinal Axis of Inertia of an Airplane written by Robert W. Boucher and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The angle of inclination of the principal axis was found to have probable error of plus or minus 0.17 degrees both from analysis of the error of inertia measurement of the full-scale airplane and from tests with a model having a simple configuration. Analysis showed the probable error of the inertia measurements for the test airplane to be plus or minus1.00, plus or minus 0.49, and plus or minus 0.35 percent of the true moment of inertia about the X, Y, and Z body reference axes, respectively.
