Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An extension of the principles of ejector operation is presented in an analysis which will aid the engineer in designing central- and annular-jet ejectors. Particular attention is focused upon applying the governing conservation equations of mass, momentum and energy to the problem of handling the various regimes of ejector operation. A modified impulse function was deduced which unifies the zero secondary flow and non-zero secondary flow ejector analysis. Application of this function to determine the effects of various influences on ejector performance such as: (a) Mach number regimes of the primary and secondary streams, (b) unequal stream stagnation temperatures, (c) wall friction, (d) the effect of unequal static pressure, was made and results presented. The analysis was applied to estimate the performance characteristics of both central- and annular-jet ejectors and is compared with experimental data in many instances. Systematic ejector operating curves are introduced, and a design analysis is developed therefrom which is rapid and straightforward. It is believed that the analysis and design procedures as applied to annular ejectors is unique. Finally, the performance characteristics of central- and annular-jet ejectors are compared to indicate the suitability of each for given pumping requirements. (Author).

Book Synopsis ANNULAR NOZZLE EJECTOR. by : M. F. GATES
Download or read book ANNULAR NOZZLE EJECTOR. written by M. F. GATES and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was made of the nnular ejector to determine a configuration that accomplishes the following: equals or improves out of ground effect performance; gives superior performance in ground effect; and overcomes the performance loss during ground effect transition. An investigation was made of the combined possibilities of a conically divergent annular primary jet, wide angle augmenter tube, and flow control vanes. The particular primary nozzle geometry chosen (jet aspect ratio, jet divergence angle and area ratio) did not combine effectively with wide angle augmenters to achieve an ejector with out of ground effect performance superior. The investigation also inclu d the use of vanes at the bellmouth and augmenter inlets and a the aug enter exit. Proper use of the vanes reduced the augmentation loss in ground effect transition to approximately 1/3 the loss without vanes. Full-scale ejector tests indicated that bellmouth losses chargeable to lip separation could be eliminated by a flat lip extension. (Author).

Book Synopsis Experimental Investigation of a Triple-jet Gas Ejector by : Yu N. Vasilev
Download or read book Experimental Investigation of a Triple-jet Gas Ejector written by Yu N. Vasilev and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study was made of a three-jet gas ejector in an attempt to improve ejector efficiency. The three-jet ejector consists of a converging nozzle for the high pressure gas and an annular nozzle for the low-pressure gas, and is similar to a conventional ejector; it is, however, also equipped with a tube in the center of the converging nozzle through which part of the low-pressure gas is introduced. Plots were obtained for the dependence of the compression ratio on the pressure drop in the forechamber, at various positions of the central tube, and with the converging nozzles having diameter ratios of 0.55, 0.45, and 0.35. The results showed that a compression ratio of 31 and a pressure drop of 240 can be obtained in the three-jet ejector when the outlet of the central tube is located in the minimum pressure zone. This compares very favorably with the 5.6 and 42.5 values obtained in a conventional ejector. By using a start-up control in which the central tube outlet is gradually moved into the minimum pressure zone, a compression ratio of 44 and a pressure drop of 340 can be obtained. The overall results indicate that the operation of a conventional ejector can be substantially improved by installing a central tube for the low-pressure gas. (Author).
