Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disordered nature of structural arrangement in amorphous and nanocrystalline alloys gives rise to advantageous soft magnetic properties in particular from a practical application viewpoint [1]. Especially nanocrystalline alloys attract a lot of scienti?c interest because, contrary to their amorphous counterparts, their magnetic parameters do not substantially deteriorate at elevated temperatures during the process of their practical exploitation. To bene?t from their unique magnetic pr- erties, the mechanism of crystallization should be known. Here, we present the study of structural transformation of NANOPERM-type alloys by the help of Mössbauer spectrometry, conventional X-ray diffraction (XRD), and by an advanced diffraction of synchrotron radiation. 2 Experimental Alloys of the composition Fe Mo Cu B for x = 12, 15, 17, 20 prepared by 91?x 8 1 x 57 rapid quenching on a rotating wheel were analyzed in the as-cast state by Fe transmission Mössbauer spectrometry (TMS) and by conversion electron Mössbauer spectrometry (CEMS). The obtained as-quenched ribbons were about 10 mm wide and 20 ?m thick. The nanocrystalline state was achieved by annealing about 2 cm ? long samples for 1 h at temperatures up to 650 C in a vacuum. Conventional XRD was performed with Cu-K radiation in Bragg-Brentano con?guration with graphite ? monochromator in the diffracted beam. Monochromatic synchrotron radiation of 7keV(? = 0. 178 nm) provided at the KMC-2 beamline at BESSY Berlin was used for in situ examinations of structural transformations during continuous heat treatment.

Book Synopsis Physics of Ferromagnetism by : Soshin Chikazumi
Download or read book Physics of Ferromagnetism written by Soshin Chikazumi and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2009-04-30 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended as a textbook for students and researchers interested in the physical aspects of ferromagnetism. The level of presentation assumes only a basic knowledge of electromagnetic theory and atomic physics and a general familiarity with rather elementary mathematics. Throughout the book the emphasis is primarily on explanations of physical concepts rather than on rigorous theoretical treatments which require a background in quantum mechanics and high level mathematics. The purpose of this book is to give a general view of magnetic phenomena, focusing it's main interest at the centre of the broad field of ferromagnetism, ranging from theory to the engineering applications such as soft and hard magnetic materials and magnetic memories. Substantially different from the author's previous book Physics of Magnetism published in 1964, the present edition is neatly organized and includes more recent developments.

Book Synopsis Characterization and Measurement of Magnetic Materials by : Fausto Fiorillo
Download or read book Characterization and Measurement of Magnetic Materials written by Fausto Fiorillo and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2004-12-07 with total page 667 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Correct and efficient measurements are vital to the understanding of materials properties and applications. This is especially so for magnetic materials for which in last twenty years, our understanding and use have changed dramatically. New or improved materials have been created and have reached the market. The Soft amorphous alloys, the Fe-based rare-earth magnets and the giant magnetorestrictive and magnetoresistive materials have all posed challenges to measurement. At the same time new digital measurement techniques have forced a change in laboratory and commercial measuring setups. A revision of measuring standards also occurred in the 1990s with the result that there is now a lack of up-to-date works on the measurement of magnetic materials. The basic objective of this work is to provide a comprehensive overview of the properties of the hard and soft magnetic materials relevant to applications and of thoroughly discussing the modern methodologies for employed in the measurement of these properties. The balance of these topics results in a complete text on the topic, which will be invaluable to researchers, students and practitioners in industry. It will be of significant interest not only to scientists working in the fields of power engineering and materials science but also to specialists in measurement who be able to easily find all the information they need. - Comprehensive overview of the properties of the hard and soft magnetic materials - Provides applications and discusses thoroughly the modern methodologies for employed in the measurement of these properties - Provides the latest up-to-date works on the measurement of magnetic materials

Book Synopsis A Review: Chill-Block Melt Spin Technique, Theories & Applications by : Mustafa Kamal
Download or read book A Review: Chill-Block Melt Spin Technique, Theories & Applications written by Mustafa Kamal and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2013-03-15 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid Solidification Processing of molten metals and alloys has proved to be a reliable route for producing new and advanced materials. The Chill-Block Melt Spin (CBMS) technique is important because its simplicity, flexibility and perfection. High quality materials can be produced with lower costs, as compared to other routes, by refining the microstructure and trapping the nucleated (new) metastable phases. Melt-spun ribbons subsequently produced can then be consolidated to produce billets and sheets that can be used in many industries especially high-tech industries such as aerospace and racing automobiles. This book contains several perspectives about CBMS technology and should be a useful review for undergraduate and post-graduate metallurgy students.
