Plots of the average and standard deviation of the radar cross section and glint are presented for each of the 16 basic cuts for each polarization and each bistatic angle, where applicable. The standard deviation of glint varies widely with aspect angle, and is largest near broadside as was expected. There are a few cuts where the average glint was outside the extent of the target for 5 degrees or more.

Book excerpt: Cette thèse présente l’étude d’un concept de radar permettant la détection et la localisation de personnes à travers les murs. La démarche est organisée en cinq points principaux. Tout d’abord, une analyse des considérations techniques en vue de la conception d’un radar répondant au besoin est effectuée. Cette analyse permet de définir les paramètres principaux du radar en fonction de contraintes liées à l’application, les deux principales étant la propagation des ondes électromagnétiques à travers des murs et la signature radar de la cible humaine. L’étude de la propagation des ondes montre la nécessité d’utiliser des larges bandes de fréquence appartenant à la bande L et S. La signature radar de l’être humain est étudiée par des mesures expérimentales et montre une grande variation de celle-ci selon la fréquence, la personne et l’attitude adoptée. Une fois la phénoménologie du problème étudiée, nous développons des méthodes de traitement d’ouverture synthétique : la rétroprojection (formation de faisceaux connue adaptée au problème) et le retournement temporel appliqué à l’imagerie (approche novatrice). Par ailleurs, l’utilisation de la méthode DORT (décomposition de l’opérateur de retournement temporel) permet la focalisation sur des cibles d’intérêt. Enfin, nous présentons la conception d’un radar FMCW ULB dans la bande de 1 à 4 GHz avec une ouverture synthétique matérialisée par un réseau d’antennes ULB. Des mesures faites en condition réelles montrent clairement la possibilité de localiser des personnes en mouvement à travers un mur en temps réel. En conclusion, ce travail a permis des avancées significatives dans le domaine de la localisation de personnes à travers des murs par radar, et pourrait avoir des retombées dans d’autres domaines tels que la détection de personnes dans le cas de tremblements de terre ou d’avalanches.
