Book Synopsis An Econometric Model of the U.S. Copper and Aluminum Industries by : Margaret E. Slade
Download or read book An Econometric Model of the U.S. Copper and Aluminum Industries written by Margaret E. Slade and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-05 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1984. This book addresses the economics of the changing mineral industry, which is highly affected by energy economics. The study estimates, in quantitative terms, the short- to mid-term consequences of rising energy prices alongside falling ore quality for the copper and aluminum industries. The effects of changing cost factors on substitution between metals is assessed as is the potential for relying on increased recycling. Copper and aluminum industry problems should be representative of those faced by the mineral processing sector as a whole. Two complex econometric models presented here produce forecasts for the industries and the book discusses and reviews other econometric commodity models.

Book Synopsis Econometric Analysis of Cross Section and Panel Data, second edition by : Jeffrey M. Wooldridge
Download or read book Econometric Analysis of Cross Section and Panel Data, second edition written by Jeffrey M. Wooldridge and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 1095 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of a comprehensive state-of-the-art graduate level text on microeconometric methods, substantially revised and updated. The second edition of this acclaimed graduate text provides a unified treatment of two methods used in contemporary econometric research, cross section and data panel methods. By focusing on assumptions that can be given behavioral content, the book maintains an appropriate level of rigor while emphasizing intuitive thinking. The analysis covers both linear and nonlinear models, including models with dynamics and/or individual heterogeneity. In addition to general estimation frameworks (particular methods of moments and maximum likelihood), specific linear and nonlinear methods are covered in detail, including probit and logit models and their multivariate, Tobit models, models for count data, censored and missing data schemes, causal (or treatment) effects, and duration analysis. Econometric Analysis of Cross Section and Panel Data was the first graduate econometrics text to focus on microeconomic data structures, allowing assumptions to be separated into population and sampling assumptions. This second edition has been substantially updated and revised. Improvements include a broader class of models for missing data problems; more detailed treatment of cluster problems, an important topic for empirical researchers; expanded discussion of "generalized instrumental variables" (GIV) estimation; new coverage (based on the author's own recent research) of inverse probability weighting; a more complete framework for estimating treatment effects with panel data, and a firmly established link between econometric approaches to nonlinear panel data and the "generalized estimating equation" literature popular in statistics and other fields. New attention is given to explaining when particular econometric methods can be applied; the goal is not only to tell readers what does work, but why certain "obvious" procedures do not. The numerous included exercises, both theoretical and computer-based, allow the reader to extend methods covered in the text and discover new insights.

Book Synopsis A Bibliographic Guide to North American Industry by : Dale A. Stirling
Download or read book A Bibliographic Guide to North American Industry written by Dale A. Stirling and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2009-03-26 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a view toward the heritage of North American Industry, A Bibliographic Guide to North American Industry: History, Health, and Hazardous Waste provides recommended readings in historical and contemporary literature related to the origins of specific industries, the health and safety issues they face, and how they manage waste and prevent pollution. It encompasses three areas of industry that are critical to understanding the whole of industry: historical development, protection of worker health, and management of associated hazardous substances and materials. This publication serves the reference needs of researchers examining issues of historical development of industry, worker exposure to hazardous substances and materials, and historic and contemporary management of hazardous wastes. The book is unique in using the North American Industrial Classification System as a framework for organizing bibliographic entries. Attorneys, historians, economists, and all others interested in historical and contemporary issues facing North American industry find here a useful and important resource.
Book Synopsis An Econometric Analysis of Zambian Industrial Electricity Demand by : Yoram Chama Chama
Download or read book An Econometric Analysis of Zambian Industrial Electricity Demand written by Yoram Chama Chama and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The writer's purpose is twofold: to examine the electricity use in Zambia's mining industry by focusing on own-price, cross price and index of mining production elasticities of demand, and on structural changes in demand patterns over the period 1980-2008 in order to expose any energy efficiency developments in Zambia's mining industry. Data for Zambia on three independent and the independent variables was collected from various databases, and analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The long-run mining industry electricity demand equation for Zambia is estimated and found to be useful and statistically significant. Both cross-price and index of mining production elasticities are statistically significant, and own price elasticity insignificant. Diesel price have long run significant impact on mining industrial electricity demand. Developments in the efficient use of electricity in the mining industry during the period 1980-2008 were minimal, and the explanation for this lies in absence of both national policy and mine policy on energy efficiency.

Department of Energy commissioned the National Research Council (NRC) to undertake a study on required technologies for the Mining Industries of the Future Program to complement information provided to the program by the National Mining Association. Subsequently, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health also became a sponsor of this study, and the Statement of Task was expanded to include health and safety. The overall objectives of this study are: (a) to review available information on the U.S. mining industry; (b) to identify critical research and development needs related to the exploration, mining, and processing of coal, minerals, and metals; and (c) to examine the federal contribution to research and development in mining processes.

Book Synopsis Innovation in the Mining Sector and Cycles in Commodity Prices by : Giulia Valacchi
Download or read book Innovation in the Mining Sector and Cycles in Commodity Prices written by Giulia Valacchi and published by WIPO. This book was released on 2019-05-09 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper analyses the evolution of innovation in the mining sector and how this innovation responds to the economic environment, in particular to changes in commodity prices. For this purpose, we combine commodity price data with innovation data as proxied by patent filings extracted from a novel unit record database containing comprehensive patent and firm level data for the mining sector from 1970 to 2015. We include patents registered both by mining companies and mining equipment, technology and service (METS) firms. With a multi-country panel analysis, we find that innovation in the mining sector is cyclical. Innovation increases in periods of high commodity prices while decreasing during commodity price recessions. Our results suggest that innovation increases mostly with long price cycle variations, while mostly unaffected by medium and short cycles. METS related innovation seem the driving force of this mechanism. In contrast, countries specializing in mining industries are found to be slower in reacting to price changes.
