It is used extensively by clinical psychologists, art therapists, social workers, and other mental health professionals in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, adults, and couples. This book brings together a renowned group of professionals to analyze the research and application of the most popular assessment and treatment tools. Tests discussed include the Draw-a-Person Test, the House-Tree-Person Test, the Kinetic Family Drawing Test, the Art Therapy-Projective Imagery Assessment, and the Wartegg Drawing Completion Test. Working with sexually and physically abused children, assessing clients with anorexia nervosa, and the influence of osteopathic treatment on drawings are some of the special topics considered. Numerous case studies are also included.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this book is to provide readers with a comprehensive account of the childOCOs personality. The book examines in detail significant personality dimensions from developmental, clinical and cross-cultural perspectives. The intricacies of personality are exposed by means of the Fairy Tale Test, an instrument that attempts to track the preconscious and unconscious processes that OC conspireOCO beneath the behavioral and overt manifestations of personality. ChildrenOCOs responses to the FTT questions are assessed both from a quantitative and a qualitative perspective. Twenty-nine personality variables are used to rate the broad range of personality characteristics. No other personality test assesses such a large number of personality parameters. The qualitative evaluation of responses includes the analysis of 14 defense mechanisms, the study of the nature of anxiety, family dynamics, and the examination of ego integration and ego strength. The unique quality of this book is the use of the FTT in the exploration of the childOCOs personality, using large samples of children derived from diverse cultures. Additional advantages of this book are the chapters which focus on the research into two significant personality traits: aggression and ambivalence and the chapter on the analysis of idiosyncratic responses; the latter offers valuable information in the classification of original responses into levels of psychopathology. While the FTT has taken significant steps towards becoming a valid and reliable instrument, studies of its psychometric properties are an ongoing process. The book also includes examples, case studies and appendices for further study and review."

It explains the theoretical basis for use of these techniques, discusses the scientific evidence for their efficacy, and identifies important practical issues. Detailed attention is devoted to both well-established and recently developed approaches of proven value, as well as to future applications. In addition, practical insights are provided into the most effective ways of integrating psychotherapy with medical activities in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and rehabilitation centers. The authors are world experts in the fields of psychotherapy, pharmacology, and cardiology, who collectively provide a sound foundation for an interdisciplinary approach to patients with ischemic heart disease. Psychotherapy for Ischemic Heart Disease is both a textbook and a practical manual aimed particularly at cardiologists, psychologists, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists, but also internal medicine specialists, cardiac surgeons, general practitioners, rehabilitation doctors, students, nurses, and patients.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychodiagnosis in Schizophrenia is a reprint of a classic volume in assessment psychology that first appeared in 1966. The book concerns the use of psychodiagnostic techniques in the differential diagnosis of schizophrenia. The author first presents a conceptual analysis of schizophrenic disturbance in terms of impaired ego functioning and extrapolates from schizophrenic ego impairments to psychodiagnostic indices that have been demonstrated to assess them. In particular, Weiner refers to the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, the Rorschach Inkblot Method, and the Draw-A-Person test. Clinical and research data delineating the nature of psychological deficits in schizophrenia are reviewed, and practical guidelines for the clinical assessment of these deficits are presented. The author next considers several differential diagnostic possibilities frequently considered in the evaluation of schizophrenic persons, with separate chapters devoted to the many forms of schizophrenia, such as: acute, chronic, paranoid, nonparanoid, incipient, remitting, borderline and pseudoneurotic. There are also chapters that focus on schizoaffective disorder and adolescent schizophrenia. The conceptual and empirical contributions to these distinctions are reviewed; accordingly, the differentiating characteristics of these subcategories are related to parameters of psychodiagnostic test performance. In additon, the process of differential psychodiagnosis in schizophrenia is illustrated by detailed case studies. In an extended new preface, the author comments on current perspectives and contemporary literature related to the individual chapters of the text.
