Book Synopsis Pathology of Cardiac Valve Disease by : Gaetano Thiene
Download or read book Pathology of Cardiac Valve Disease written by Gaetano Thiene and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-01 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiac valve diseases are a major cause of morbidity and mortality around the globe. In third world countries, inflammatory rheumatic valve disease in the young represents an endemic calamity, while in Western countries, degenerative valve diseases like senile calcific aortic stenosis and mitral valve prolapse as a result of mucoid degeneration with incompetence are major causes of death in adults/the elderly. Since the 1960s, surgical valve replacement has been the only treatment option, requiring sternotomy, cardiopulmonary bypass and cardiac arrest. Permanent anticoagulation for mechanical valves and the limited durability of biological valves constituted significant drawbacks; moreover, these surgeries often requires surgical replacement. The cardiac registry at the University of Padua, Italy, has gathered more than twelve hundred cases of failed prosthetic valves, offering a unique resource for teaching and research. Conservative valve repair using minimally invasive technique showed that replacement of the native valve with sternotomy can be spared. Moreover, in the last decade venous or arterial approaches like TAVI were developed. Presenting the essential surgical and interventional anatomy and pathology in detail, this book offers a valuable tool for cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and pathologists, as well as people in training and scientists working in the field of medical devices and biological compatibility.
Book Synopsis Atlas of Acquired Cardiovascular Disease Imaging in Children by : Randy Ray Richardson, MD
Download or read book Atlas of Acquired Cardiovascular Disease Imaging in Children written by Randy Ray Richardson, MD and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-13 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas is a concise visual guide to the imaging of acquired heart disease in infants, children, and adolescents. Imaging plays an ever-increasing vital role in diagnosis, preoperative planning, and postoperative management for children with these disorders. The book reviews techniques for lowering radiation, discusses protocols for imaging in children, and provides recommendations for the most appropriate studies that decrease the time and cost of imaging these patients. Focusing on functional and anatomic imaging with an emphasis on three-dimensional color-coded models derived from CT and MR scans, this book promotes understanding of cardiovascular disorders in children, including infectious, neoplastic, and metabolic diseases. Atlas of Acquired Cardiovascular Disease Imaging in Children is a valuable resource through which cardiologists, radiologists, pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, and residents can improve the quality and treatment of pediatric and adolescent patients with acquired heart disease.

Book Synopsis Atlas of Pediatric Cardiac CTA by : Randy Ray Richardson
Download or read book Atlas of Pediatric Cardiac CTA written by Randy Ray Richardson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atlas of Pediatric Cardiac CTA is a concise visual guide to the imaging of congenital heart disease in infants and children. The book focuses on the utilization of cardiac CTA imaging for pediatric patients as distinct from adult patients, with an emphasis on techniques for retrospective and prospective scanning, reduction of the radiation dose, and CT data processing and analysis. It also describes cardiac CTA evaluation search patterns to assess the complex anatomy in congenital heart patients. As pediatric patients often present with multiple findings, separate chapters are devoted to the major structures of the cardiovascular system, accompanied with extensive imaging examples of the atria, ventricles, great vessels, coronary arteries, lungs and airways, and the situs. The book concludes with a review of shunts, procedures, and surgeries used in the management of this disorder. Atlas of Pediatric Cardiac CTA is a valuable resource for radiologists, cardiologists, and other clinicians involved in the care of pediatric patients with congenital heart disease.
