Book Synopsis The Lucan Journey by : Maria Yen Thi Do
Download or read book The Lucan Journey written by Maria Yen Thi Do and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work investigates the Lucan journey motif from a literary and theological perspective. It starts by examining the indications of movement in the narrative sequence of the Gospel. Using the historical-critical method, the author continues with a study of the Transfiguration (Luke 9:28-36) and the Ascension (Acts 1:6-11) narratives, and presents a comparison between them. The work concludes with an investigation of the Lucan journey in the two-volume work of Luke. On the literary level, the author suggests that the Transfiguration and the Ascension narratives are composed as an architectural pair and, in turn, serve as the respective starting points for the parallel journeys in Luke-Acts. On the theological level, she shows that the two journeys are, in fact, two stages of the one unique journey, namely the journey of the Salvific Message. Thus, the author provides a further confirmation of the unity of the two-volume work of Luke.

Book Synopsis Monumental Journey by : Stephen C. Pinson
Download or read book Monumental Journey written by Stephen C. Pinson and published by Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book was released on 2019-01-28 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1842, the pioneering French photographer Joseph-Philibert Girault de Prangey (1804–1892) set out eastward across the Mediterranean, daguerreotype equipment in tow. He spent the next three years documenting lands that were then largely unknown to the West, including Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Syria, and Lebanon, in some of the earliest surviving photographic images of these places. Monumental Journey, the first monograph in English on this brilliant yet enigmatic artist, explores the hundreds of daguerreotypes Girault made during his unprecedented trip, offering a rare, early look at sites and cities that have since been altered—sometimes irrevocably—by urban, environmental, and political change. Beautiful full-scale reproductions of Girault’s photographs, many published here for the first time, and incisive essays shed new light on the arc of his career and his groundbreaking contributions to the burgeoning fields of photography, archaeology, and architectural history. Monumental Journey presents an artist of astonishing innovation whose work occupies a singular space at the border of history and modernity, tradition and invention, endurance and evanescence. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Verdana}
Book Synopsis An Architect's Journey by : Zone, Ray
Download or read book An Architect's Journey written by Zone, Ray and published by Trafford. This book was released on 2003 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When architecture is considered, the focus is usually on the buildings themselves, giving a little attention to how our culture's complex mix of attitudes and values play out in the designer's act of creation. Whether we like it or dislike it, architecture must be seen in the context of these many forces to be better understood. How does the designer inflect these forces through his own set of personal sensibilities - the inherent values that fuel that perspective? This is the question. More about question than answer, this is an architect's story, developed and nurtured through his insight: a walk through portions of his life which, by his own admission, is a work in progress. It's more a journey of how his insight, initially disguised as recollection, came into being. This is a book about the development of identity, vision and authenticity in one man's life both personal and professional. As a book on architecture, it will change forever the way you look at buildings. Also, it could change the way you look at your own life. It's a primer for young architect's and a guide for us all.
