This book was released on 1961 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ebullition cycle of nucleate pool boiling from a heating strip was studied through the use of high-speed motion pictures of schlieren and shadowgraph images. The effects of bubble agitation on thermal layer and neighboring bubbles were observed. An over-all model of ebullition based upon experimental observation was proposed that included an analytical method for predicting bubble growth rate and an analysis of the factors that influence the magnitude of the waiting period (time interval between bubbles at a particular site). Thermal-layer thickness, cavity size, and area of influence of a growing bubble are considered. A film supplement is made available. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of the importance of multiphase flows in a wide variety of industries, including power, petroleum, and numerous processing industries, an understanding of the behavior and underlying theoretical concepts of these systems is critical. Contributed by a team of prominent experts led by a specialist with more than thirty years of experience, the Multiphase Flow Handbook provides such an understanding, and much more. It covers all aspects of multiphase flows, from fundamentals to numerical methods and instrumentation. The book begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of particle/fluid/bubble interactions followed by gas/liquid flows and methods for calculating system parameters. It includes up-to-date information on practical industrial applications such as boiling and condensation, fluidized beds, aerosols, separation systems, pollution control, granular and porous media flow, pneumatic and slurry transport, and sprays. Coverage then turns to the most recent information on particle/droplet-fluid interactions, with a chapter devoted to microgravity and microscale flows and another on basic multiphase interactions. Rounding out the presentation, the authors discuss numerical methods, state-of-the art instrumentation, and advanced experimental techniques. Supplying up-to-date, authoritative information on all aspects of multiphase flows along with numerous problems and examples, the Multiphase Flow Handbook is the most complete reference available for understanding the flow of multiphase mixtures.

Book Synopsis Helium Cryogenics by : Steven W. Van Sciver
Download or read book Helium Cryogenics written by Steven W. Van Sciver and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At least 10 years have elapsed since a comprehensive monograph concer ned with the broad subject of cryogenics has been published. During this time a considerable quantity of research and development has been carried out in the field of cryogenics. Furthermore, there has been a certain degree of redirection of effort within the field, mostly driven by the variety of new applications, ranging from superconductive magnet systems to micro electronics. Greater emphasis is now being placed on low-temperature cryogenics, particularly that of liquid helium. Until now cryogenic books have provided a broad survey of materials and fluid properties over the entire cryogenic regime, T ::5 150 K. This approach does not allow sufficient detail in any particular area to bring the reader to the current level of understanding in the subject. In addition, the behavior of helium has been lumped with that of other cryogenic fluids, although the properties of helium are quite unique. As a result, a clear relationship has not been established between the fundamental understanding of helium fluids and their potential applications. The present book has been written to fill this void. The approach is to survey the field of cryogenics, specifically as it pertains to helium fluids. This approach is more specialized than that contained in previous cryogenics books. Furthermore, the level of treatment is more advanced and a certain knowledge of fundamental engineering and physics principles has been assumed.

Book Synopsis Fluid Flow, Heat Transfer and Boiling in Micro-Channels by : L. P. Yarin
Download or read book Fluid Flow, Heat Transfer and Boiling in Micro-Channels written by L. P. Yarin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-19 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of the book is uid dynamics and heat transfer in micro-channels. This problem is important for understanding the complex phenomena associated with single- and two-phase ows in heated micro-channels. The challenge posed by high heat uxes in electronic chips makes thermal management a key factor in the development of these systems. Cooling of mic- electronic components by new cooling technologies, as well as improvement of the existing ones, is becoming a necessity as the power dissipation levels of integrated circuits increases and their sizes decrease. Miniature heat sinks with liquid ows in silicon wafers could signi cantly improve the performance and reliability of se- conductor devices. The improvements are made by increasing the effective thermal conductivity, by reducing the temperature gradient across the wafer, by reducing the maximum wafer temperature, and also by reducing the number and intensity of localized hot spots. A possible way to enhance heat transfer in systems with high power density is to change the phase in the micro-channels embedded in the device. This has motivated a number of theoretical and experimental investigations covering various aspects of heat transfer in micro-channel heat sinks with phase change. The ow and heat transfer in heated micro-channels are accompanied by a n- ber of thermohydrodynamic processes, such as liquid heating and vaporization, bo- ing, formation of two-phase mixtures with a very complicated inner structure, etc., which affect signi cantly the hydrodynamic and thermal characteristics of the co- ing systems.
