This study reviews the major changes that have taken place in world grain markets since 1965. It examines the international policy environment that will shape trade in wheat and coarse grains over coming years, and looks at how success or failure in the current GATT negotiations will affect Canada's position. Particular attention is paid to Canada's agricultural exports to Japan.
Book Synopsis The U.S. Wheat Economy in an International Setting by : Paul Gallagher
Download or read book The U.S. Wheat Economy in an International Setting written by Paul Gallagher and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bulletin presents an annual econometric model of the U.S. wheat economy. The research is part of a series on models for the major U.S. field crops; the goal is to provide forecasting and policy analysis tools of ultimate use for policy purposes. Prices for sorghum, a major competitor in the domestic wheat-feed industry, affect wheat supplies, domestic demand, and foreign demand. Rising incomes in less developed countries encourage purchases of U.S. wheat, but income growth in Japan and Western Europe reduces purchases. U.S. Government policy options for exportable wheat-food aid, exports to centrally planned countries, or Government stock ownership-have significantly different influences on wheat prices.

Book Synopsis The International Grain Trade by : Nick Butler
Download or read book The International Grain Trade written by Nick Butler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mood of the international grain market changed remarkably in the decade before this book was originally published in 1986. In the early 1970s, which were years of buoyancy and high prices, the concern was with feeding the starving millions and subsequently, in the United states, with the use of the grain embargo weapon to put pressure on the Soviet Union. In the mid-1980s, after a long period in which the recession kept prices down, the climate was much gloomier. The book considers the state of the major supplier countries and their particular problems. It charts the changes in the market and discusses major issues of international concern. It concludes by surveying prospects for the market.

Download or read book U.S. Grain written by Joseph Halow and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book outlines the steps necessary for shifting agricultural marketing decisions from the private sector to the government. In describing the deleterious effect of political involvement in agriculture and on the overall U.S. trade balance, this text attempts to reconcile past policies with future expectations. The author retraces the steps which led to the agricultural bonanza of the 1970's and the subsequent rapid decline of U.S. agriculture's profitability to the nation in the 1980's. Analysis of U.S. agricultural programs includes thorough discussion of grain exports to the Soviet Union, embargoes and their effects on markets, and the problems of the farmers themselves as they attempt to devine the next phase of U.S. foreign agricultural policy before planting. This book could be used as a guide to U.S. Government offices dealing with agricultural export trade policy, as well as undergraduate public policy and political science seminars on U.S. food policy. Includes comprehensive bibliography.
