Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term Managing Your Measure Maximally means optimizing your personalized measure of joy and sadness, surplus and scarcity, prosperity and peasantness or peasantry, etc., as long as you live. All humans have their high and low seasons, best and worst seasons, good and bad seasons. Ecclesiastes 3 attests to these but how we manage such season matters. How we manage our lives maximally amidst the realization that you are inevitably vulnerable is the real issue here. God Almighty has the fi nal defi nition of what is good and bad, acceptable and unacceptable at any point in time. Therefore, cleaving to and looking up to Him always, is one of the best things to do in life. If parents can hurt, strength can fail the strong, wealth can fail the rich, and wisdom would not immune from vulnerability and attendant misfortune, then, there is no better wisdom than depending on God who is not subject to the law of inevitable vulnerability.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Weight of Womanhood highlights the incomprehensible avoidable pressures put on women by societal expectations, male folks and sometimes women themselves. There is this culture of taking women for granted or taking advantage of women. Laban used his two daughters to swindle his nephew, Jacob, the Philistine Kings, and high officials used Delilah against Israelite leader, Samson who had become a pain in the ass for the Philistines’ leadership. King Saul attempted to use his daughters rather than any of his sons to kill David. Certain cultures imply that one of the worst things a woman can do is to conceive and bear a girlchild. They turn a blind eye to the murder of millions of growing girlchild in the womb on yearly basis. Moses’ older sister, Miriam resented and antagonized his wife to the extent that God was incensed to punish Miriam. King Rehoboam robbed his eldest son of his right because he preferred one of his stepmothers to the eldest son’s mother. When Samson’s mother claimed that an angel had visited her to talk about the imminent conception and birth of Samson, his father did not believe her. She had to ask God to resend His angel to attest to her claim before Samson’s father believed her. Most men take women’s gynecological and maternal exigencies for granted. Once Hannah did not conceive and bear him a child quickly, though he was supposed to love her very much, Elkanah opted for a second wife, Peninnah who made life miserable for Hannah once she bore Elkanah children while Hannah remained barren. He did not do anything to restrain Peninnah from worsening Hannah’s miseries.

Book excerpt: Despite the numerous vicious conflicts that scarred the twentieth century, the horrors of the Western Front continue to exercise a particularly strong hold on the modern imagination. The unprecedented scale and mechanization of the war changed forever the way suffering and dying were perceived and challenged notions of what the nations could reasonably expect of their military. Examining experiences of the Western Front, this book looks at the life of a soldier from the moment he marched into battle until he was buried. In five chapters - Battle, Body, Mind, Aid, Death - it describes and analyzes the physical and mental hardship of the men who fought on a front that stretched from the Belgian coast to the Swiss border. Beginning with a broad description of the war it then analyzes the medical aid the Tommies, Bonhommes and Frontschweine received - or all too often did not receive - revealing how this aid was often given for military and political rather than humanitarian reasons (getting the men back to the front or munitions factory and trying to spare the state as many war-pensions as possible). It concludes with a chapter on the many ways death presented itself on or around the battlefield, and sets out in detail the problems that arise when more people are killed than can possibly be buried properly. In contrast to most books in the field this study does not focus on one single issue - such as venereal disease, plastic surgery, shell-shock or the military medical service - but takes a broad view on wounds and illnesses across both sides of the conflict. Drawing on British, French, German, Belgian and Dutch sources it shows the consequences of modern warfare on the human individuals caught up in it, and the way it influences our thinking on 'humanitarian' activities.

Book excerpt: Life Is Never Mainly About Love and Marriage. So Learn to Live and Date for More. Many of you grew up assuming that marriage would meet all of your needs and unlock God's purposes for you. But God has far more planned for you than your future marriage. Not Yet Married is not about waiting quietly in the corner of the world for God to bring you "the one," but about inspiring you to live and date for more now. If you follow Jesus, the search for a spouse is no longer a pursuit of the perfect person, but a pursuit of more of God. He will likely write a love story for you different than the one you would write for yourself, but that's because he loves you and knows how to write a better story. This book was written to help you find real hope, happiness, and purpose in your not-yet-married life.

Book excerpt: “If you want to grow, start by making other people feel taller.” In Great People Make People Feel Great: How Leaders Elevate Teams With Cloud Nine Thinking, accomplished management coach and business veteran Adrian Webster and Stuart Holah set out an inspiring and practical collection of insights into how to unlock the full potential of yourself, colleagues, team members and collaborators. You’ll learn to elevate your workplace by shifting assumptions, and choosing new perspectives which generate better outcomes for managers, team members and entire businesses. You’ll discover the culture shift that’s possible when you give people permission to bring their undiluted selves to work and inspire them to get more out of themselves than they thought possible. The book will show you how to: Find clarity of meaning by simplifying goals and strategies so you focus on what’s most important Build effective teams and foster collaboration by understanding how to motivate people with diverse skills and strengths Celebrate failure for its rich learning opportunities, as well as building on the lessons of success Recognize the power of incremental small changes that add up to powerful transformations An essential handbook for leaders or would-be leaders in any size of organisation, Great People Make People Feel Great will benefit entrepreneurs and founders, as well as senior leadership and board members in established businesses. Each chapter takes a familiar aspect of leadership and examines it from a new angle to show that when we are prepared to ask why we often think and react automatically in certain situations, we can learn to ‘re-programme’ our thinking and consciously adopt more effective strategies.
