Download or read book Squeeze Me written by Carl Hiaasen and published by Knopf. This book was released on 2020-08-25 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “If you could use some wild escapism right now, Hiaasen is your guy.” —Janet Maslin, The New York Times From the author of Skinny Dip and Razor Girl, a hilarious, New York Times best-selling novel of social and political intrigues, set against the glittering backdrop of Florida’s gold coast. It's the height of the Palm Beach charity ball season: for every disease or cause, there's a reason for the local luminaries to eat (minimally), drink (maximally), and be seen. But when a prominent high-society dowager suddenly vanishes during a swank gala, and is later found dead in a concrete grave, panic and chaos erupt. Kiki Pew was notable not just for her wealth and her jewels--she was an ardent fan of the Winter White House resident just down the road, and a founding member of the POTUSSIES, a group of women dedicated to supporting their President. Never one to miss an opportunity to play to his base, the President immediately declares that Kiki was the victim of rampaging immigrant hordes. This, it turns out, is far from the truth. The truth might just lie in the middle of the highway, where a bizarre discovery brings the First Lady's motorcade to a grinding halt (followed by some grinding between the First Lady and a love-struck Secret Service agent). Enter Angie Armstrong, wildlife wrangler extraordinaire, who arrives at her own conclusions after she is summoned to the posh island to deal with a mysterious and impolite influx of huge, hungry pythons . . . Carl Hiaasen can brighten even the darkest of days and Squeeze Me is pure, unadulterated Hiaasen. Irreverent, ingenious, and highly entertaining, Squeeze Me perfectly captures the absurdity of our times.
Book Synopsis GUYANA-MY ELDORADO by : DR FRANK A HANIFF,MD
Download or read book GUYANA-MY ELDORADO written by DR FRANK A HANIFF,MD and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-06-30 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am seventy-six years of age, have had two heart attacks, and am not really very well. My memory, though, is fine, except sometimes for "names," but I recall the events as vividly as if they are occurring now. My "Far" passed away on June 10, 2013. Today is Valentine's Day and I visited my Far twice. Our home on 2665 La Veta Avenue is a mere two minutes away. I have just returned from San Bernardino Community Hospital where I visited a patient, in my capacity as a Muslim chaplain. I am not sure who, if anyone, will ever read this book. It is a chronicle of our wonderful life, but there are many "Cinderella" stories. This is not a masterpiece of the English language, nor is it in any way unique. Writing gave me a great deal of pleasure. I knew I had angels beside me, and at all times, one seraph. We have had much joy, pleasure, excitement, much to wonder about, and much to puzzle over. We have laughed and cried, nearly just as much, sometimes out of pleasure and sometimes out of pain and grief; always, we have "walked with God." We have made many mistakes--we are only human--and have alienated far too many, but never deliberately nor out of meanness. Those who love us will perhaps forgive, and those who do not may hopefully forget our transgressions, real or imagined, always remembering what Jesus said about "casting stones." We tried to make a difference and, with the help of God, we did. In as much as this humble effort reflects the insuperable challenges of finding peace and harmony in a small family, I believe it resonates with the pain and suffering inflicted by man on his fellow man, in places like Syria, Central Africa, and the Ukraine, and with more natural disasters such as hurricanes, typhoons, and tornadoes, which create no less pain and suffering. As I approach the end of my life, I continue in the Ministry of Healing, in the hope that the solace and comfort I attempt to deliver will not be entirely unselfish. Dr. Frank A. Haniff, MD San Bernardino, CA 92404 February 14, 2014

Book excerpt: Staying Alive is the sequel to An Innocent ManThe Life and Times of an American Baby Boomer. The first book explored growing up in the 1950s and 1960s. Staying Alive continues the adventure into the serendipitous 1970s. The same characters we enjoyed so much in An Innocent Man return and try to take the great leap from late adolescence into early adulthood. Follow our baby boomers as they struggle to survive college, avoid or cope with the Vietnam War, and eventually join mainstream society. Watch these reckless students try to turn themselves into budding professionals; struggle with marriage, child-rearing, and divorce; and try to survive the ups and downs of the volatile 1970s. Totally submerged in their own lives and interests, they still cant avoid the impacts of multiple wars, two oil embargos, rampant inflation, on-again off-again recession, and other world and life-changing events. Follow Ed Bakers efforts to just keep staying alive, John Fitzmorriss transition from Vietnam to a normal life, Johnny Latellas desire to keep scoringon and off the athletic field, Jerry Prinzs simple desire to succeed in business, and Jack Fitzhughs tenacious struggle to turn bad luck into good. Will they survive the gyrating 1970s, and can they do it alone, or does friendship really make a difference?
