Book excerpt: TRB's Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) Synthesis 53: Operational Experiences with Flexible Transit Services examines transit agency experiences with "flexible transit services," including all types of hybrid services that are not pure demand-responsive (including dial-a-ride and Americans with Disabilities Act paratransit) or fixed-route services, but that fall somewhere in between those traditional service models.
Book Synopsis Control in Transportation Systems by : D. Klamt
Download or read book Control in Transportation Systems written by D. Klamt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control in Transportation Systems covers the proceedings of the Fourth International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC)/International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP)/International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS) Conference on Control in Transportation Systems. The book discusses papers that tackle applications, methodologies, and control problems of surface transportation systems. This text covers topics such as operation of ground transportation systems; availability and safety; and the impact of modeling on the operation of transportation systems. This selection also discusses self-tuning control of multilocomotive-powered long freight trains; fuzzy control for automatic train operation system; and energy optimal control in transportation systems. This book will be of great use to engineers especially those who specialize with transport systems.

Book Synopsis Computer-aided Scheduling and Dispatch in Demand-responsive Transit Services by : David S. Kessler
Download or read book Computer-aided Scheduling and Dispatch in Demand-responsive Transit Services written by David S. Kessler and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2004 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scope of this synthesis is to (1) search out useful information on the use of computer-aided scheduling and dispatch (CASD) in demand-responsive transit (DRT) services, (2) develop an amalgamation or compendium of the current knowledge and successful practices used in computerizing the functions necessary to efficiently and effectively operate such DRT services, and (3) report on measures used to resolve specific problems in planning and implementing CASD. The ultimate objective in compiling a considerable storehouse of information is to make this information available to the public transit community. Private and nonprofit organizations that are providing DRT services will similarly benefit from a review of these results.

Book Synopsis Urban Transportation Systems by : Kundan Meshram
Download or read book Urban Transportation Systems written by Kundan Meshram and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-10-29 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exciting new volume covers the most up-to-date advances, theories, and practical applications for non-motorized transportation (NMT) systems, geographic information system-based transportation systems, and signal processing for urban transportation systems. This book will allow readers to readers to identify traffic and transport problems in cities and to study mass transportation systems, and modes of transportation and their characteristics, focusing on transportation infrastructure which includes green bays, control stations, mitigation buildings, separator lanes, and safety islands. From this, readers will be able to study urban public transport systems and gain some background into intelligent transportation and telemetric systems, including techniques for designing transport telemetric systems and applying them to urban transportation. Applications include advanced traffic management systems, advanced traveler information systems, advanced vehicle control systems, commercial vehicle operational management, advanced public transportation systems, electronic payment systems, advanced urban transportation, security and safety systems, and urban traffic control. From this, an artificial Intelligence-based transportation system design using genetic algorithms and neural networks is discussed, to show applications in designs. These models and their studies are further extended in signal processing systems and geographic information systems (GIS) to improve transportation system design, and to apply this to the design of non-motorized transportation models, while ensuring pedestrian safety. All these models are further analyzed for environmental impact assessment, which include structural audits, analysis of site selection procedure, baseline conditions and major concerns, green building and its advantages, the description of potential environmental effects, and many more interesting topics.
