Book Synopsis Geometry and Topology: Aarhus by : Karsten Grove
Download or read book Geometry and Topology: Aarhus written by Karsten Grove and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume includes both survey and research articles on major advances and future developments in geometry and topology. Papers include those presented as part of the 5th Aarhus Conference - a meeting of international participants held in connection with ICM Berlin in 1998 - and related papers on the subject. This collection of papers is aptly published in the Contemporary Mathematics series, as the works represent the state of research and address areas of future development in the area of manifold theory and geometry. The survey articles in particular would serve well as supplemental resources in related graduate courses.
Book Synopsis Algebraic Topology by : Gunnar Carlsson
Download or read book Algebraic Topology written by Gunnar Carlsson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These are proceedings of an International Conference on Algebraic Topology, held 28 July through 1 August, 1986, at Arcata, California. The conference served in part to mark the 25th anniversary of the journal Topology and 60th birthday of Edgar H. Brown. It preceded ICM 86 in Berkeley, and was conceived as a successor to the Aarhus conferences of 1978 and 1982. Some thirty papers are included in this volume, mostly at a research level. Subjects include cyclic homology, H-spaces, transformation groups, real and rational homotopy theory, acyclic manifolds, the homotopy theory of classifying spaces, instantons and loop spaces, and complex bordism.

Book Synopsis The Local Structure of Algebraic K-Theory by : Bjørn Ian Dundas
Download or read book The Local Structure of Algebraic K-Theory written by Bjørn Ian Dundas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-06 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algebraic K-theory encodes important invariants for several mathematical disciplines, spanning from geometric topology and functional analysis to number theory and algebraic geometry. As is commonly encountered, this powerful mathematical object is very hard to calculate. Apart from Quillen's calculations of finite fields and Suslin's calculation of algebraically closed fields, few complete calculations were available before the discovery of homological invariants offered by motivic cohomology and topological cyclic homology. This book covers the connection between algebraic K-theory and Bökstedt, Hsiang and Madsen's topological cyclic homology and proves that the difference between the theories are ‘locally constant’. The usefulness of this theorem stems from being more accessible for calculations than K-theory, and hence a single calculation of K-theory can be used with homological calculations to obtain a host of ‘nearby’ calculations in K-theory. For instance, Quillen's calculation of the K-theory of finite fields gives rise to Hesselholt and Madsen's calculations for local fields, and Voevodsky's calculations for the integers give insight into the diffeomorphisms of manifolds. In addition to the proof of the full integral version of the local correspondence between K-theory and topological cyclic homology, the book provides an introduction to the necessary background in algebraic K-theory and highly structured homotopy theory; collecting all necessary tools into one common framework. It relies on simplicial techniques, and contains an appendix summarizing the methods widely used in the field. The book is intended for graduate students and scientists interested in algebraic K-theory, and presupposes a basic knowledge of algebraic topology.

Book Synopsis Geometric And Algebraic Topological Methods In Quantum Mechanics by : Luigi Mangiarotti
Download or read book Geometric And Algebraic Topological Methods In Quantum Mechanics written by Luigi Mangiarotti and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005-01-27 with total page 715 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade, the development of new ideas in quantum theory, including geometric and deformation quantization, the non-Abelian Berry's geometric factor, super- and BRST symmetries, non-commutativity, has called into play the geometric techniques based on the deep interplay between algebra, differential geometry and topology. The book aims at being a guide to advanced differential geometric and topological methods in quantum mechanics. Their main peculiarity lies in the fact that geometry in quantum theory speaks mainly the algebraic language of rings, modules, sheaves and categories. Geometry is by no means the primary scope of the book, but it underlies many ideas in modern quantum physics and provides the most advanced schemes of quantization.
Book Synopsis Cyclic Homology by : Jean-Louis Loday
Download or read book Cyclic Homology written by Jean-Louis Loday and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997-11-12 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the reviews: "This is a very interesting book containing material for a comprehensive study of the cyclid homological theory of algebras, cyclic sets and S1-spaces. Lie algebras and algebraic K-theory and an introduction to Connes'work and recent results on the Novikov conjecture. The book requires a knowledge of homological algebra and Lie algebra theory as well as basic technics coming from algebraic topology. The bibliographic comments at the end of each chapter offer good suggestions for further reading and research. The book can be strongly recommended to anybody interested in noncommutative geometry, contemporary algebraic topology and related topics." European Mathematical Society Newsletter In this second edition the authors have added a chapter 13 on MacLane (co)homology.
