Download or read book Land Reforms Administration in West Bengal written by Prabhat Kumar Datta and published by Daya Books. This book was released on 1988 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study is the first ever attempted to enquire into the dynamics of land reforms administration in West Bengal during the Left Front regime. The quantitative data for the study have been collected by the field investigators. The study provides an estimable account of the restricting and re-orientation of the former bureaucratic apparatus to meet the tasks of operation Barga and land reforms. The baring of mass politicisation on bureaucratic machinery and also the interaction between popular consciousness and executive power have been analysed. The enquiry makes a good effort to appreciate the levels and patterns of perception of the toiling masses (bargadards and patta holders) vis-a-vis the land reforms programmes. Contents Chapter 1: Introduction; Chapter 2: From Land Revenue to Land Reform: Evolving Scenario; Chapter 3: Field Administration for Land Reform: Structures and Processes; Chapter 4: Profiled of the Sample Mouzas and the Respondents; Chapter 5: Perceptions of Bargadars and Pattaholders; Chapter 6: Sample Officers: Their Profiled and Perceptions; Chapter 7: Concluding Observations.

This book was released on 2018-02-22 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decade India has witnessed a number of land wars that have centred crucially on the often forcible transfer of land from small farmers or indigenous groups to private companies. Among these, the land war that erupted in Singur, West Bengal, in 2006, went on to make national headlines and become paradigmatic of many of the challenges and social conflicts that arise when a state-led policy of swiftly transferring land to private sector companies encounters resistance on the ground. Land Dispossession and Everyday Politics in Rural Eastern India analyses the movement by Singur’s so-called unwilling farmers to retain and reclaim their farmland. By foregrounding the everyday politics of popular mobilization, the book sheds new light on the movement’s internal politics as well as on contentious issues rooted in everyday caste, class and gender relations.

Book Synopsis Structural Transformation and Agrarian Change in India by : Goran Djurfeldt
Download or read book Structural Transformation and Agrarian Change in India written by Goran Djurfeldt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The landlord and his emaciated labourer are symbolic of Indian agriculture. However, this relationship has now changed as large landowners have fallen from their superior position. This volume explores how this emblematic pair is becoming a thing of the past. Structural Transformation and Agrarian Change in India investigates whether family labour farms are gaining prominence as a consequence of the structural transformation of the economy. The authors work alongside Weberian methodology of ideal types and develop different types of family farms; among them family labour farms that rely mainly on family workers, contrasted with capitalist farms that depend on hired labour. Agriculture is shrinking as a part of the total GDP at the same time as agricultural labour is shrinking as part of the total labour force. The changing agrarian structure is explored with the use of unique long-term survey data and statistical models. Results show that India is approaching farm structures that are typical of East and South East Asia, with pluriactive smallholders as the norm. This book successfully criticizes popular narratives about Indian agricultural development as well as simplistic evolutionist, Marxist or neoclassical prognoses. It is of great importance to those who study development economics, development studies and South Asian economics.

Book Synopsis From Popular Movements to Rebellion by : Ranabir Samaddar
Download or read book From Popular Movements to Rebellion written by Ranabir Samaddar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-11-21 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Popular Movements to Rebellion: The Naxalite Decade argues that without an understanding of the popular sources of the rebellion of that time, the age of the Naxalite revolt will remain beyond our understanding. Many of the chapters of the book bring out for the first time unknown peasant heroes and heroines of that era, analyses the nature of the urban revolt, and shows how the urban revolt of that time anticipated street protests and occupy movements that were to shake the world forty-fifty years later. This is a moving and poignant book. Some of the essays are deeply reflective about why the movement failed and was at the end alienated. Ranabir Samaddar says that, the Naxalite Movement has been denied a history. The book also carries six powerful short stories written during the Naxalite Decade and which are palpably true to life of the times. The book has some rare photographs and ends with newspaper clippings from the period. As a study of rebellious politics in post-Independent India, this volume with its focus on West Bengal and Bihar will stand out as an exceptional history of contemporary times. From Popular Movements to Rebellion: The Naxalite Decade will be of enormous relevance to students and scholars of history, politics, sociology and culture, and journalists and political and social activists at large.
