Download or read book Studies in Turbulence written by Thomas B. Gatski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains contributions by former students, colleagues and friends of Professor John L. Lumley, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, in recognition of his enormous impact on the advancement of turbulence research. A variety of experimental, computational and theoretical topics, including turbulence modeling, direct numerical simulations, compressible turbulence, turbulent shear flows, coherent structures and the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition are contained herein. The diversity and scope of these contributions are further acknowledgment of John Lumley's wide ranging influence in the field of turbulence. The large number of contributions by the authors, many of whom were participants in The Lumley Symposium: Recent Developments in Turbulence (held at ICASE, NASA Langley Research Center on November 12 & 13, 1990), has presented us with the unique opportu nity to select a few numerical and theoretical papers for inclusion in the journal Theoretical and Computational Fluid Dynamics for which Professor Lumley serves as Editor. Extended Abstracts of these pa pers are included in this volume and are appropriately marked. The special issue of TCFD will appear this year and will serve as an additional tribute to John Lumley. As is usually the case, the efforts of others have significantly eased our tasks. We would like to express our deep appreciation to Drs. R.

Book Synopsis Advances In Wave Turbulence by : Victor Shrira
Download or read book Advances In Wave Turbulence written by Victor Shrira and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013-05-10 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave or weak turbulence is a branch of science concerned with the evolution of random wave fields of all kinds and on all scales, from waves in galaxies to capillary waves on water surface, from waves in nonlinear optics to quantum fluids. In spite of the enormous diversity of wave fields in nature, there is a common conceptual and mathematical core which allows to describe the processes of random wave interactions within the same conceptual paradigm, and in the same language. The development of this core and its links with the applications is the essence of wave turbulence science (WT) which is an established integral part of nonlinear science. The book comprising seven reviews aims at discussing new challenges in WT and perspectives of its development. A special emphasis is made upon the links between the theory and experiment. Each of the reviews is devoted to a particular field of application (there is no overlap), or a novel approach or idea. The reviews cover a variety of applications of WT, including water waves, optical fibers, WT experiments on a metal plate and observations of astrophysical WT.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second European Turbulence Conference was held at the Technische Univer sitat Berlin, Federal Republic of Germany, from August 30th to September 2nd 1988 under the auspices of the European Mechanics Committee. It was primar ily devoted to fundamental aspects of turbulence, and aimed at bringing together engineers, physicists, and mathematicians. The scientific committee - serving also as Sub-committee of the European Turbulence Conference - consisted of the following members: G. Comte-Bellot (Lyon), H.-H. Fernholz and H.E. Fiedler (both from Berlin) as co-chairmen of the conference, U. Frisch (Nice), J.C.R. Hunt (Cambridge), E. Krause (Aachen), M. Landahl (Stockholm), A.M. Obukhov (Moscow), and G. Ooms (Amsterdam). The conference programme comprised 6 invited lectures and 94 contributions, presented either orally or at poster sessions. There were 165 participants from 18 countries. All papers published in these conference proceedings were, with the exception of the invited ones, again refereed by the members of the scientific committee. The main research topics discussed at this meeting were stability and gener ation of turbulence, effects of rotation, stratification and buoyancy forces, novel instrumentation, manipulation and control, boundary layers with separation and reattachment, computer simulation, turbulent diffusion, image analysis and flow visualization, vorticity dynamics and turbulence, and large-scale structures. We have taken the liberty of regrouping some papers following the submitted final versions for this volume. Authors may therefore find their paper under a different heading from that in the conference programme.

Download or read book Advances in Turbulence written by Genevieve Comte-Bellot and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1964 the main function of the European Mechanics Committee has been to arrange Euromech Colloquia. These are three- or four-day meetings for the discussion of current research on a specified and relatively narrow topic in mechanics, by about 50 specialists chosen for their active involvement in research in that topic. The organization of each Euromech Colloquium is entrusted by the Committee to one or two selected scientists of repute in the field, and these organizers are enjoined to achieve a friendly and informal forum for discussion, with a minimum of paper work and expenditure. Over 220 Euromech Colloquia have been held since 1964 (about 40 each in France, West Germany and Britain and the remainder in 18 countries in both western and eastern Europe) on a wide range of topics drawn from the mechanics of solid materials, hydrodynamics, gas dynamics and mechanical systems. The Committee believes that collectively, Euromech Colloquia have made a significant contribution to the exchange of ideas on topics in mechanics within Europe and have thereby helped to overcome the barriers to easy scientific communication in that sorely divided continent. A few years ago the European Mechanics Committee turned its atten tion to the possible need for European conferences on a larger scale than Euromech Colloquia.
Book Synopsis Homogeneous Turbulence Dynamics by : Pierre Sagaut
Download or read book Homogeneous Turbulence Dynamics written by Pierre Sagaut and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 897 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides state-of-the-art results and theories in homogeneous turbulence, including anisotropy and compressibility effects with extension to quantum turbulence, magneto-hydodynamic turbulence and turbulence in non-newtonian fluids. Each chapter is devoted to a given type of interaction (strain, rotation, shear, etc.), and presents and compares experimental data, numerical results, analysis of the Reynolds stress budget equations and advanced multipoint spectral theories. The role of both linear and non-linear mechanisms is emphasized. The link between the statistical properties and the dynamics of coherent structures is also addressed. Despite its restriction to homogeneous turbulence, the book is of interest to all people working in turbulence, since the basic physical mechanisms which are present in all turbulent flows are explained. The reader will find a unified presentation of the results and a clear presentation of existing controversies. Special attention is given to bridge the results obtained in different research communities. Mathematical tools and advanced physical models are detailed in dedicated chapters.
