Book Synopsis Cockpit Engineering by : D.N. Jarrett
Download or read book Cockpit Engineering written by D.N. Jarrett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cockpit Engineering provides an understandable introduction to cockpit systems and a reference to current concepts and research. The emphasis throughout is on the cockpit as a totality, and the book is accordingly comprehensive. The first chapter is an overview of how the modern cockpit has evolved to protect the crew and enable them to do their job. The importance of psychological and physiological factors is made clear in the following two chapters that summarise the expectable abilities of aircrew and the hazards of the airborne environment. The fourth chapter describes the stages employed in the design of a modern crewstation and the complications that have been induced by automated avionic systems. The subsequent chapters review the component systems and the technologies that are utilized. Descriptions of equipment for external vision - primarily the windscreen, canopy and night-vision systems - are followed by pneumatic, inertial and electro-mechanical instruments and the considerations entailed in laying out a suite of displays and arranging night-lighting. Separate chapters cover display technology, head-up displays, helmet-mounted displays, controls (including novel controls that respond directly to speech and the activity of the head, eye and brain), auditory displays, emergency escape, and the complex layers of clothing and headgear. The last chapter gives the author's speculative views on ideas and research that could profoundly alter the form of the crewstation and the role of the crew. Although the focus of the book is on combat aircraft, which present the greatest engineering and ergonomic challenges, Cockpit Engineering is written for professional engineers and scientists involved in aerospace research, manufacture and procurement; and for aircrew, both civil and military - particularly during training. It will also be of great interest to university students specialising in aerospace, mechanical and electronic engineering, and to professional engineers and scientists in the marine, automotive and related industries.

Book Synopsis Recent Developments in High-Speed Transport by : Dmitry Yu. Strelets
Download or read book Recent Developments in High-Speed Transport written by Dmitry Yu. Strelets and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-10 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the basic concepts and various aspects of creating a new generation supersonic passenger aircraft. It presents the fundamental and applied problems essential to the design of aircraft of this type. Solutions to the problems of reducing supersonic boom, environmental noise, harmful emissions, increasing the efficiency of propulsion systems, and the general concept and certification are described. The development of high-speed transport, as a means of improving mobility and quality of life, is a relevant task for research teams in many countries. The publication includes selected articles from the 1st International Conference on High-Speed Transport Development, organized by the Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University) which, by participating in many research and commercial projects (including international ones) has accumulated a lot of competencies sufficient to act as a platform for knowledge exchange in this field. The target audience of this book are researchers working on high-speed transport, postgraduate students, as well as any individuals willing to broaden their knowledge of high-speed aircraft.
Book Synopsis The Paradigm Shift to Multimodality in Contemporary Computer Interfaces by : SHARON OVIATT
Download or read book The Paradigm Shift to Multimodality in Contemporary Computer Interfaces written by SHARON OVIATT and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last decade, cell phones with multimodal interfaces based on combined new media have become the dominant computer interface worldwide. Multimodal interfaces support mobility and expand the expressive power of human input to computers. They have shifted the fulcrum of human-computer interaction much closer to the human. This book explains the foundation of human-centered multimodal interaction and interface design, based on the cognitive and neurosciences, as well as the major benefits of multimodal interfaces for human cognition and performance. It describes the data-intensive methodologies used to envision, prototype, and evaluate new multimodal interfaces. From a system development viewpoint, this book outlines major approaches for multimodal signal processing, fusion, architectures, and techniques for robustly interpreting users' meaning. Multimodal interfaces have been commercialized extensively for field and mobile applications during the last decade. Research also is growing rapidly in areas like multimodal data analytics, affect recognition, accessible interfaces, embedded and robotic interfaces, machine learning and new hybrid processing approaches, and similar topics. The expansion of multimodal interfaces is part of the long-term evolution of more expressively powerful input to computers, a trend that will substantially improve support for human cognition and performance.
