Book excerpt: This annotated bibliography lists 836 English language materials dealing with adult education in continental Europe that were written between 1975 and 1979. Organized by country, the bibliography deals with the broadest possible concept of adult education. Thus, it includes works devoted to vocational education for adults; adult secondary and postsecondary level credit courses; as well as activities of museums, art galleries, and libraries inasmuch as these involve specifically planned educational programs for individual adults or adult groups. Within the above categories, the bibliography is subdivided into categories of various institutions, methods and techniques, and subject matter. The following are representative of the categories included in the bibliography: the history of adult education; comparative studies; biographies; educational legislation; financing adult education; statewide, regional, and local-level adult education institutions and organizations; study circles and discussion groups; correspondence study, independent study, and distance education; adult basic education; retraining; the education of women; workers' education; pre-retirement education and programs for retired persons; lifelong learning; religious education; hobbies, arts, and crafts; community development; research in adult education; and the theory of adult education. Book Synopsis Essential Readings in International and Comparative Adult Education by : Jost Reischmann
Download or read book Essential Readings in International and Comparative Adult Education written by Jost Reischmann and published by ZIEL Verlag. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Often in international comparative studies, it is difficult to refer to older basic texts because they are hidden in old publications, difficult to locate. This book makes a selection of such old but 'essential' texts available and wants to docu-ment the long history of the international/ comparative perspective. 'Standing on the shoulder of giants' allows not only a grounded look back but hopefully also a reliable and experience-based look in the future. The editor of this book, Jost Reischmann, Prof. em., Bamberg University, Germany, has a long history in international and comparative adult education. He presented papers on conferences around the world, from San Diego (USA) to Soul (Korea). When the International Society for Comparative Adult Education (ISCAE) was founded in 1992, he became the first president and developed this society over many years. We hope this new book will help old-timers and new-comers to contribute to the enriching world of international comparative adult education.

Book Synopsis Planning Adult Learning by : William M. Rivera
Download or read book Planning Adult Learning written by William M. Rivera and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-02-21 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1987, this book challenged readers to consider the political issues, agency practices, and social directions of planning adult learning programs and services at the time. It confronts the subject of planning from the perspective of federally constituted countries where policies of decentralization generally prevail. It proposes that the concept of adult education may be too narrow to accommodate the breadth of adult learning in many different sectors, not only the Education sector. In clarifying main issues surrounding planning of adult learning, the book opens up new horizons for thinking about a field which heretofore had at best appeared conceptually confusing and politically unclear.
