Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sampled-data control systems generally have fixed sampling frequencies which must be set high enough to give satisfactory performance for all anticipated conditions. A study is made here of an adaptive system which varies the sampling frequency by measuring a system parameter. It is shown that a sampler followed by a zero-order hold whose sampling period is controlled by the absolute value of the first derivative of the error signal will be a more 'efficient' sampler than a fixed frequency sampler. That is, over a given time interval, fewer samples are needed with the variable frequency system than with a fixed frequency system while maintaining essentially the same response characteristics. The system described reduced the number of samples required for response to a step input to about three-quarters that required in a fixed sampling frequency system. Over a long period of time, savings in the number of samples required can be expected to be between twenty-five and fifty per cent. In many applications, the saving produced by reducing the overall number of samples required may outweigh the added complexity of the adaptive sampling frequency system. (Author).

Book Synopsis Sampling in Digital Signal Processing and Control by : Arie Feuer

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Undoubtably one of the key factors influencing recent technology has been the advent of high speed computational tools. Virtually every advanced engi neering system we come in contact with these days depends upon some form of sampling and digital signal processing. Well known examples are digital tele phone systems, digital recording of audio signals and computer control. These developments have been matched by the appearance of a plethora of books which explain a variety of analysis, synthesis and design tools applica ble to sampled-data systems. The reader might therefore wonder what is distinc tive about the current book. Our observation of the existing literature is that the underlying continuous-time system is usually forgotten once the samples are tak en. The alternative point of view, adopted in this book, is to formulate the analy sis in such a way that the user is constantly reminded of the presence of the under lying continuous-time signals. We thus give emphasis to two aspects of sampled-data analysis: Firstly, we formulate the various algorithms so that the appropriate contin uous-time case is approached as the sampling rate increases. Secondly we place emphasis on the continuous-time output response rath er than simply focusing on the sampled response.

Book Synopsis Co-design Approaches to Dependable Networked Control Systems by : Daniel Simon
Download or read book Co-design Approaches to Dependable Networked Control Systems written by Daniel Simon and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Networked Control Systems (NCS) is a growing field of application and calls for the development of integrated approaches requiring multidisciplinary skills in control, real-time computing and communication protocols. This book describes co-design approaches, and establishes the links between the QoC (Quality of Control) and QoS (Quality of Service) of the network and computing resources. The methods and tools described in this book take into account, at design level, various parameters and properties that must be satisfied by systems controlled through a network. Among the important network properties examined are the QoC, the dependability of the system, and the feasibility of the real-time scheduling of tasks and messages. Correct exploitation of these approaches allows for efficient design, diagnosis, and implementation of the NCS. This book will be of great interest to researchers and advanced students in automatic control, real-time computing, and networking domains, and to engineers tasked with development of NCS, as well as those working in related network design and engineering fields.
