Book Synopsis Sustainable Community Health by : Elias Mpofu
Download or read book Sustainable Community Health written by Elias Mpofu and published by Palgrave Macmillan. This book was released on 2022-02-05 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applying a trans-disciplinary approach, this book provides a comprehensive, research-based guide to understanding, implementing, and strengthening sustainable community health in diverse international settings. By examining the interdependence of environmental, economic, public health, community wellbeing and development factors, the authors address the systemic factors impacting health disparities, inequality and social justice issues. The book analyzes strategies based on a partnership view of health, in which communities determine their health and wellness working alongside local, state and federal health agencies. Crucially, it demonstrates that communities are themselves health systems and their wellbeing capabilities affect the health of individuals and the collective alike. It identifies health indicators and tools that communities and policy makers can utilize to sustain truly inclusive health systems. This book offers a unique resource for researchers and practitioners working across psychology, mental health, rehabilitation, public health, epidemiology, social policy, healthcare and allied health.

Book Synopsis Clinical Sleep Medicine by : Emmanuel H. During, M.D.
Download or read book Clinical Sleep Medicine written by Emmanuel H. During, M.D. and published by American Psychiatric Pub. This book was released on 2020-07-29 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The importance of sleep for well-being and general and mental health is increasingly being recognized. Sleep complaints are commonly associated with mental disorders and are even part of the diagnostic criteria for some of them, such as mood and anxiety disorders and PTSD. The relationship between sleep and psychiatric disorders is intertwined and, in some cases, bidirectional. Anxiety, psychosis, and depression often result in reduced sleep quality (sleep fragmentation, experience of unpleasant, unrefreshing sleep), quantity (increased or reduced), or pattern (changes in sleep schedule, loss of sleep consistency). Reciprocally, sleep disorders can contribute to the exacerbation of psychiatric symptoms and independently affect the prognosis. Finally, most psychotropic drugs have an effect on sleep and arousal and can aggravate a preexisting sleep abnormality. This book aims to familiarize readers with current knowledge on the mutual effects of sleep and mental health and provide an integrated framework for students, clinicians, and researchers. Throughout its 18 chapters, it discusses the six main categories of sleep disorders: insomnia (Chapters 3-5), hypersomnia (Chapters 6-7), sleep-disordered breathing (Chapters 8-11), circadian disorders (Chapters 12-13), parasomnias (Chapters 14-16), and sleep-related movement disorders (Chapters 17-18)"--

Book Synopsis Endangered Languages and Languages in Danger by : Luna Filipović
Download or read book Endangered Languages and Languages in Danger written by Luna Filipović and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2016-10-03 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This peer-reviewed collection brings together the latest research on language endangerment and language rights. It creates a vibrant, interdisciplinary platform for the discussion of the most pertinent and urgent topics central to vitality and equality of languages in today’s globalised world. The novelty of the volume lies in the multifaceted view on the variety of dangers that languages face today, such as extinction through dwindling speaker populations and lack of adequate preservation policies or inequality in different social contexts (e.g. access to justice, education and research resources). There are examples of both loss and survival, and discussion of multiple factors that condition these two different outcomes. We pose and answer difficult questions such as whether forced interventions in preventing loss are always warranted or indeed viable. The emerging shared perspective is that of hope to inspire action towards improving the position of different languages and their speakers through research of this kind.

Book Synopsis Circuit Analysis by : Leonard J. Tung
Download or read book Circuit Analysis written by Leonard J. Tung and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is intended as a textbook for a first course in electrical engineering. It is divided into two parts, for a two-semester coverage. The first part deals with circuit elements, resistive circuits, circuit theorems, circuit topology, and the state-variable method. The presentation of the state-variable method is a special feature. The authors believe that the natural way to analyze RLC circuits is to use the state-variable method rather than second- or high-order ordinary differential equations. By choosing capacitor voltages and inductor currents in an RLC circuit as state variables, the so-called state equations can by systematically obtained through network topology. Of particular interest is the approach employing Thevenin's theorem and Norton's theorem to find state equations without using circuit topology. The second part of the book covers sinusoidal stead-state analysis, two-port networks, the Fourier series, the Fourier transform, and the Laplace transform. Great effort has been devoted to presenting the subjects of the Fourier series, the Fourier transform, and the Laplace transform with many practical circuits. Thus, we hope that the reader will be better motivated to learn rather abstract concepts such as complex frequency and frequency response.
