Book excerpt: "Written in his mother's unique voice, John Leigh Walters pushes the boundaries of memoir in A Very Capable Life, the extraordinary journey of a seemingly ordinary woman." "Zarah Petri was a child when her family left Hungary to establish a new life in Canada in the 1920s. With courage and innovation, Zarah and her family survived the Depression - even if it meant breaking the law to do so. In celebrating Zarah Petri, A Very Capable Life pays homage to all "ordinary" women of the early twentieth century who challenged society's conventions for the sake of survival." --Book Jacket.

Book excerpt: #1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER • PULTIZER PRIZE WINNER • The captivating inside story of the woman who helmed the Washington Post during one of the most turbulent periods in the history of American media: the scandals of the Pentagon Papers and Watergate In this widely acclaimed memoir ("Riveting, moving...a wonderful book" The New York Times Book Review), Katharine Graham tells her story—one that is extraordinary both for the events it encompasses and for the courage, candor, and dignity of its telling. Here is the awkward child who grew up amid material wealth and emotional isolation; the young bride who watched her brilliant, charismatic husband—a confidant to John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson—plunge into the mental illness that would culminate in his suicide. And here is the widow who shook off her grief and insecurity to take on a president and a pressman’s union as she entered the profane boys’ club of the newspaper business. As timely now as ever, Personal History is an exemplary record of our history and of the woman who played such a shaping role within them, discovering her own strength and sense of self as she confronted—and mastered—the personal and professional crises of her fascinating life.

While these are not random ideas, but these specific needs for higher knowledge are embedded continuously within your own higher level intelligent needs and meanings, just because this is the case with all intelligent life. But is this important knowledge about life actually available to you and everyone else? Yes or no, since there are many instances to consider. Yet when you are capable to find the necessary knowledge about life, meaning, society, and the world, you are truly capable to live your life at the intelligent human level. While if you cannot find it, you keep on searching, since your own higher level needs and meanings never leave you alone until you learn everything necessary in life and in the world. And so you do, otherwise, you end up living your life on lower developmental levels, addicted, in servitude, or only intuitively, through animal instincts. And it certainly matters, just because you are an intelligent living human being by nature, now forced to live life below your level, unfulfilled and even punished intrinsically for your continuous failure. But where exactly can you find this important knowledge? Who can shine a living light on the accurate truth? Do you still wait for science to do so, when science had already offered you everything that it knows since high school? Throughout this book, we model life in all significant details, as we study everything alive and intelligent, from the smallest cellular components to the entire human body, mind, and spirit, and to all forms of life, because everything is alive and meaningful in the world. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1728 at the beginning of the Enlightenment when rational criticism of religious belief was at its peak, William Law’s work succeeded in inspiring the most cynical men of the age with its arguments in favor of a spiritual life. Proclaiming that God does not merely forgive our disobedience, but directly calls us to obedience and to a life completely centered in him, Law declares, “If you will here stop and ask yourself why you are not as pious as the primitive Christians were, your own heart will tell you that it is neither through ignorance nor inability, but because you never thoroughly intended it.” Law’s prose is packed with vivid imagery and illustrative anecdotes that both reveal what it means to lead a Christian life and unmask the perversion of Christian tenets by secular and spiritual establishments. This challenge of conventional piety and emphasis on Christian perfection directly influenced literary critic Samuel Johnson and historian Edward Gibbon, as well as Cardinal John Henry Newman. John Wesley called Law’s work one of three books that accounted for his first “explicit resolve to be all devoted to God.” Charles Wesley, George Whitefield, Henry Venn, William Wilberforce, and Thomas Scott each described reading the book as a major turning point in his life. William Law (1686-1761) was educated at Cambridge, took a teaching position there, and was also ordained in the Church of England. He lost his access to university venues and the parish ministry when he was unable to swear allegiance to the Hanoverian dynasty that replaced the Stuarts as the rulers of Great Britain. Although forbidden the use of pulpit and lecture hall, he preached through his books, including Christian Perfection, The Grounds and Reasons of Christian Regeneration, Spirit of Prayer, and Spirit of Love.

And if you ever become sick, how can you regain your good health and maintain it indefinitely? Even more, how can you prolong your life as much as possible, remaining young looking, strong and vibrant continuously? These are essential questions and you should always consider them, since you should always be able to lose weight and maintain your good health with ease, because your body and mind can remain proper and fit for as long as they are not harmed or unbalanced. And even when they are harmed or unbalanced, your body and mind can still recover on their own, to offer you good health, sustained vitality, and a beautiful young appearance. This is exactly what you want, but how can you achieve it? Because you have tried everything, as you still gain weight. Additionally, you feel weak many times, even depressed, while you become sick too. And since it happens to everybody, is it actually your fault? Why is everybody sick, weak, tired, overweight, wrinkled, on stimulants, on medication, and on all drugs? Why can you not remain healthy indefinitely, the way you should, and the way your body and mind are supposed to offer? These are important questions, while their answer is rather simple. Since many times, a variety of factors harm your body and mind, even continuously, for various reasons, and now, your body and mind cannot recover, unless you identify, understand, and counteract these main factors first. Therefore, in order for you to have your good health, vitality, happiness, vibrancy, and good appearance, you have to find out what harms your body and mind in the first place, along with everything keeping them unbalanced, and you solve it. Because throughout life and throughout the world, you always have causes generating effects generating causes generating effects, in very large lines of causality, and this is why you have to find these main problems generating the entire line of causality affecting your health, vitality, feelings, and appearance. Otherwise, you end up solving effects and symptoms but not main causes, while your problems persist. These keep manifesting while your mind and body are doomed to remain sick, weak, and dreadful, indefinitely. Since this is how people suffer and die, for these main causes, for these hidden, ignored, or unidentified problems, as these are numerous throughout life and society, affecting you continuously. What main causes exactly? The main causes determining you to eat excessively and therefore to gain weight, yet there are other main causes affecting you continuously, which are just as dreadful. Because just by attempting to stop eating as you do during diets, you never arrive to lose weight, since you never solve the main causes making you hungry in the first place, with all consequences piling up and intensifying. While there are many main causes interfering right now with your health, feelings, vitality, proper reasoning, happiness, and bodily appearance, and you should know them well. Because in general, people focus on everything else while attempting to lose weight, they focus on their symptoms and effects, but not on the main dreadful factors causing these. And it never works. Throughout this book, you learn everything about health, nutrition, and fitness, helping you stay slim, healthy, vigorous, happy, vibrant, and attractive for life, while helping you identify and avoid many problems and illnesses. If you seek the perfect program and lifestyle keeping you fit, this book is for you.

Book excerpt: Love and the Divine are the best meanings there can be, just because love stands at the top of your feelings and you treasure the most, while the Divine is everything that exists. You cannot find anything beyond love and the Divine capable enough to set your meaning in life and in this world, simply because there is nothing else beyond them. However, there is significantly more to learn and understand about the human meaning, just because, as it is presented in this world today through science, literature, philosophy, and through the rest of ideologies, it is not enough. You fail to understand the human meaning, and this causes you to fail your own meaning in life and in this world, at least your natural meaning, as you receive it from Life and from the Divine. Because the concept of meaning is presented to you empirically today, you cannot understand it accurately in this manner but only through doctrine and beliefs, you can never engage your reasoning in this manner in order to grasp accurately your own natural meaning, your natural meaning is easily hijacked, and everything is done on purpose, to harm and exploit you. In this manner, you end up fulfilling consensually implemented meanings throughout life, on behalf of the rich and the powerful of this world, since they are the ones controlling ideologies and therefore consensual meanings in this world. Not much that you do now counts for Life and for the Divine, despite of what ideologies tell and promise, and when you look back, now you may see the kind of world that you create. And do not blame the rich and the powerful of this world, since you are the one doing everything, for them. Many times, it is for your children that you struggle throughout life, to make them happy, to make them worthy, and to make everything count, because this is exactly your meaning in your family. Yet can’t it be the same in your community and in society? Does it ever make a difference to have or not to have a specifically defined meaning in life and in this world? Yes, it certainly makes a difference, because all meanings count, even the slightest ones, since they are connected. And it is always a matter of identifying your meanings instead of fulfilling them unknowingly, otherwise you end up working your entire life in vain. While through your consensually induced meanings, you end up working against the meanings of others, deliberately or not, living your life against your loved ones. While they can certainly feel, and this ruins entire relationships. This is your consensual meaning in your family, in society, in life, and in this world. And so you end up living your life against yourself, against your own natural meaning. Throughout this book, we follow, identify, define, understand, and model the human meaning, genuine and consensual, from all perspectives and in all contexts. You learn about your meaning in life, in this world, in society, within your family and genetic line, within you own cognitive system, within higher worlds, and within everything that exists.

Book excerpt: In vivid language, the author tells of his childhood and the history of his country up to his escape as a 17-year-old, which led from Lebanon to Germany. It is a story of rubber dinghies on the Mediterranean and of inconceivable conditions in refugee camps, of people who become increasingly dependent as they continue to flee and who can only hope to be tried under the rule of law in countries such as Austria or Germany. But the ordeal is by no means over. Depression, exacerbated by overcrowded rooms in asylum shelters or further cultural disputes between refugees, is just as much a part of everyday life as other "favors" for which so-called helpers apparently cash in.

Book excerpt: This world famous book tells biographies of the greatest pirates who ruled the seas in 18th century. The author, Captain Charles Johnson, was crucially influential in shaping popular conceptions of pirates and more importantly he inspired the classics such as Treasure Island, Peter Pan, On Stranger Tides...; and more recently the movie saga Pirates of the Caribbean and the series Black Sails. This history introduced many features which later became common in pirate literature, such as pirates with missing legs or eyes, the notion of pirates burying treasure, and the name of the pirate flag the Jolly Roger. The book covers the lives and incredible exploits of the following pirates and their crew: Captain Avery Captain Martel Captain Teach, alias Blackbeard Major Stede Bonnet Edward England Charles Vane Captain John Rackam Captain John Phillips The Life of Mary Read & Anne Bonny Captain Howel Davis Captain Bartho Roberts Captain Anstis Worley George Lowther Edward Low John Evans Captain Spriggs An Account of the Pyracies and Murders committed by Philip Roche, &c. Book excerpt: It was an amiable but deceitful afternoon in the third week of December. Snow fell heavily in the windows of confectioners' shops, and Father Christmas smiled in Keats's Bazaar the fawning smile of a myth who knows himself to be exploded; but beyond these and similar efforts to remedy the forgetfulness of a careless climate, there was no sign anywhere in the Five Towns, and especially in Bursley, of the immediate approach of the season of peace, goodwill, and gluttony on earth.
