There are few causes of simple inflammation more fre quent than sudden warming the hands or feet when chilled with cold. Irritation will sometimes excite inflammation, not in the part to which it is applied, but in a distant part. Thus we have see'n in considering eruptive fevers, that inflammation of the skin is often excited by irritation of the bowels and in considering the phleg masiae we shall find this observation still more strikingly illustrated.
