Book Synopsis A Survey of Melting Layer Research by : Robert C. Schaller
Download or read book A Survey of Melting Layer Research written by Robert C. Schaller and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes previous melting-layer research both within and outside AFGL and provides recommendations for future research in the melting layer. An extensive literature search provided a bibliography of previous research. This bibliography is included as an appendix. Several definitions of the top and bottom of the melting layer are presented and discussed. Aggregation and breakup appear to be the chief microphysical processes that determine the particle-size spectrum of snow and ice that enter the melting layer. Studies of the actual melting process and of the melting layer as seen by radar are presented. Microphysical and thermodynamic characteristics are discussed. Dynamic considerations are mentioned. Previously gathered aircraft data are reviewed, and recommendations are made for future aircraft and radar data-gathering efforts. (Author).

Book Synopsis Radar Polarimetry for Weather Observations by : Alexander V. Ryzhkov
Download or read book Radar Polarimetry for Weather Observations written by Alexander V. Ryzhkov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-25 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph offers a wide array of contemporary information on weather radar polarimetry and its applications. The book tightly connects the microphysical processes responsible for the development and evolution of the clouds’ bulk physical properties to the polarimetric variables, and contains the procedures on how to simulate realistic polarimetric variables. With up-to-date polarimetric methodologies and applications, the book will appeal to practicing radar meteorologists, hydrologists, microphysicists, and modelers who are interested in the bulk properties of hydrometeors and quantification of these with the goals to improve precipitation measurements, understanding of precipitation processes, or model forecasts.

Book Synopsis Liquid-like (transition) Layer on Ice by : Hans Helmut Gunter Jellinek
Download or read book Liquid-like (transition) Layer on Ice written by Hans Helmut Gunter Jellinek and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey of the literature covering about the last hundred years is presented concerning the existence of a liquid-like transition layer on ice below its melting point. The conclusion is reached that the available evidence is very strongly in favor of the existence of such a layer. However, more direct measurements of the properties of such a layer are needed and possible methods for obtaining such information are indicated. (Author).

Book Synopsis A Review: Chill-Block Melt Spin Technique, Theories & Applications by : Mustafa Kamal
Download or read book A Review: Chill-Block Melt Spin Technique, Theories & Applications written by Mustafa Kamal and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2013-03-15 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid Solidification Processing of molten metals and alloys has proved to be a reliable route for producing new and advanced materials. The Chill-Block Melt Spin (CBMS) technique is important because its simplicity, flexibility and perfection. High quality materials can be produced with lower costs, as compared to other routes, by refining the microstructure and trapping the nucleated (new) metastable phases. Melt-spun ribbons subsequently produced can then be consolidated to produce billets and sheets that can be used in many industries especially high-tech industries such as aerospace and racing automobiles. This book contains several perspectives about CBMS technology and should be a useful review for undergraduate and post-graduate metallurgy students.
