For the first time in book form, Quantitative Approximations provides a thorough account of all of the significant developments in the area of contemporary quantitative mathematics. It offers readers the unique opportunity of approaching the field under the guidance of an expert. Among the book's outstanding features is the inclusion of the introductory chapter that summarizes the primary and most useful results. This section serves not only as a more detailed table of contents for those new to an area of application, but also as a quick reference for more seasoned researchers. The author describes all of the pertinent mathematical entities precisely and concretely. His approach and proofs are straightforward and constructive, making Quantitative Approximations accessible and valuable to researchers and graduate students alike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book applies generalized fractional differentiation techniques of Caputo, Canavati and Conformable types to a great variety of integral inequalities e.g. of Ostrowski and Opial types, etc. Some of these are extended to Banach space valued functions. These inequalities have also great impact in numerical analysis, stochastics and fractional differential equations. The book continues with generalized fractional approximations by positive sublinear operators which derive from the presented Korovkin type inequalities and also includes abstract cases. It presents also multivariate complex Korovkin quantitative approximation theory. It follows M-fractional integral inequalities of Ostrowski and Polya types. The results are weighted so they provide a great variety of cases and applications. The second part of the book deals with the quantitative fractional Korovkin type approximation of stochastic processes and lays there the foundations of stochastic fractional calculus. The book considers both Caputo and Conformable fractional directions and derives regular and trigonometric results. The positive linear operators can be expectation operator commutative or not. This book results are expected to find applications in many areas of pure and applied mathematics and stochastics. As such this monograph is suitable for researchers, graduate students, and seminars of the above disciplines, also to be in all science and engineering libraries.

Book excerpt: This book is a valuable resource for Graduate students and researchers interested in current techniques and methods within the theory of moments in linear positive operators and approximation theory. Moments are essential to the convergence of a sequence of linear positive operators. Several methods are examined to determine moments including direct calculations, recurrence relations, and the application of hypergeometric series. A collection of operators in the theory of approximation are investigated through their moments and a variety of results are surveyed with fundamental theories and recent developments. Detailed examples are included to assist readers understand vital theories and potential applications.

Book excerpt: Function theory, spectral decomposition of operators, probability, approximation, electrical and mechanical inverse problems, prediction of stochastic processes, the design of algorithms for signal-processing VLSI chips--these are among a host of important theoretical and applied topics illuminated by the classical moment problem. To survey some of these ramifications and the research which derives from them, the AMS sponsored the Short Course Moments in Mathematics at the Joint Mathematics Meetings, held in San Antonio, Texas, in January 1987. This volume contains the six lectures presented during that course. The papers are likely to find a wide audience, for they are expository, but nevertheless lead the reader to topics of current research. In his paper, Henry J. Landau sketches the main ideas of past work related to the moment problem by such mathematicians as Caratheodory, Herglotz, Schur, Riesz, and Krein and describes the way the moment problem has interconnected so many diverse areas of research. J. H. B. Kemperman examines the moment problem from a geometric viewpoint which involves a certain natural duality method and leads to interesting applications in linear programming, measure theory, and dilations. Donald Sarason first provides a brief review of the theory of unbounded self-adjoint operators then goes on to sketch the operator-theoretic treatment of the Hamburger problem and to discuss Hankel operators, the Adamjan-Arov-Krein approach, and the theory of unitary dilations. Exploring the interplay of trigonometric moment problems and signal processing, Thomas Kailath describes the role of Szego polynomials in linear predictive coding methods, parallel implementation, one-dimensional inverse scattering problems, and the Toeplitz moment matrices. Christian Berg contrasts the multi-dimensional moment problem with the one-dimensional theory and shows how the theory of the moment problem may be viewed as part of harmonic analysis on semigroups. Starting from a historical survey of the use of moments in probability and statistics, Persi Diaconis illustrates the continuing vitality of these methods in a variety of recent novel problems drawn from such areas as Wiener-Ito integrals, random graphs and matrices, Gibbs ensembles, cumulants and self-similar processes, projections of high-dimensional data, and empirical estimation.

Book excerpt: Approximation theory received much attention in the last century, and an intriguing area in this field is positive linear operators. This thesis is a literature survey on positive linear operators. We discuss some of the well-known examples of positive linear operators. Preserving $k$-monotonicity by positive linear operators is another interesting topic in this area. We are interested if $L_n(f;x)$ is $k$-monotone whenever function $f$ is $k$-monotone. For a sequence of positive linear operators $\{L_n(f;x)\}$, it is a natural question if this sequence converges to $f(x)$ and how fast is this convergence. We study the saturation of these operators. Usually, there is a relation between the rate of convergence and the smoothness of the function being approximated. If increasing smoothness of functions does not result in the increase of the degree of approximation, this phenomenon is called saturation. We discuss iteration of general positive linear operators and give numerical examples.
