This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network (B-ISDN) is conceived as an all-purpose digital network supporting interactive and distributive services, bursty and continuous traffic, connection-oriented and connectionless services, all in the same network. The concepts of ISDN in general and B-ISDN in particular have been evolving since CCIIT adopted the rrrst set ofISDN recommendations in 1984. Thirteen recommendations outlining the fundamental principles and initial specifications for B-ISDN were approved in 1990, with Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) being the transfer mode of choice for B-ISDN. It seems fair to say that B-ISDN concepts have changed the face of networking. The expertise we have developed for a century on telephone systems and over a number of decades on packet networks is proving to be insufficient to deploy and operate the envisioned B-ISDNs. Much more needs to be understood and satisfactorily addressed before ATM networks can become a reality. Tricomm'93 is dedicated to A TM networks. The technical program consists of invited papers addressing a large subset of issues of practical importance in the deployment of ATM networks. This is the sixth in a series of Research Triangle Conferences on Computer Communications, which emerged through the efforts of the local chapter of IEEE Communications Society.
Book Synopsis Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) User Security Services by : Douglas Long

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ATM USA provides the framework for building security solutions for DoD ATM users. This architecture can be configured to support encryption devices at the local workstation, at the ATM switch, and at enclave boundaries (including cell and link encryptors). The enclave security policy can be used to provide a fine grain control over who has access to ATM services, the type and nature of the services that can be accessed, when they can be accessed, etc. The policy can also provide flexibility to balance the quality of services with the quality of protection for a connection and can provide dynamic management of both quality of service and quality of protection. The ATM USA is also compatible with emerging ATM standards, providing a solid basis for future compatibility as these standards develop in the future. In addition, we have specified the ATM USA security extension to the ATM Native Services APL. In addition to specifying the two API primitives, we defined how these primitives are invoked by an application in conjunction with its Connection Manager to manage the security services. This document describes the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) User Security Architecture developed by ORA for the US Air Force Rome Lab under Contract No. F30602-95-C-O234. This architecture is designed to meet the user requirements for security services for DoD ATM networks. The requirements for this architecture were derived from the security requirements of four programs designated by the Air Force: the Global Grid Security Architecture, the Defense Information System Network Security Architecture (DISN), the Multilevel Information System Security Initiative (MISSI), and the Theater Battle Management C41 Architecture for Deployable Operations. These derived requirements are described in Section 2.

Book excerpt: This is the sixth conference in the series which started in 1981 in Paris, followed by conferences held in Zurich (1984), Rio de Janeirio (1987), Barcelona (1991), and Raleigh (1993). The main objective of this IFIP conference series is to provide a platform for the exchange of recent and original contributions in communications systems in the areas of performance analysis, architectures, and applications. There are many exiciting trends and developments in the communications industry, several of which are related to advances in Asynchronous Transfer Mode·(ATM), multimedia services, and high speed protocols. It is commonly believed in the communications industry that ATM represents the next generation of networking. Yet, there are a number of issues that has been worked on in various standards bodies, government and industry research and development labs, and universities towards enabling high speed networks in general and ATM networks in particular. Reflecting these trends, the technical program of the Sixth IFIP W.G. 6.3 Conference on Performance of Computer Networks consists of papers addressing a wide range of technical challenges and proposing various state of the art solutions to a subset of them. The program includes 25 papers selected by the program committee out of 57 papers submitted.

Download or read book Performance Modelling and Evaluation of ATM Networks written by Demetres D. Kouvatsos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks are widely considered to be the new generation of high speed communication systems both for broadband public information highways and for local and wide area private networks. ATM is designed to integrate existing and future voice, audio, image and data services. Moreover, ATM aims to simplify the complexity of switching and buffer management, to optimise intermediate node processing and buffering and to limit transmission delays. However, to support such diverse services on one integrated communication network, it is most essential, through careful engineering, to achieve a fruitful balance amongst the conflicting requirements of different quality of service constraints ensuring that one service does not have adverse implications on another. Over recent years there has been a great deal of progress in research and development of ATM technology, but there are still many interesting and important problems to be resolved such as traffic characterisation and control, routing and optimisation, ATM switching techniques and the provision of quality of service. This book presents thirty-two research papers, both from industry and academia, reflecting latest original achievements in the theory and practice of performance modelling of ATM networks worldwide. These papers were selected, subject to peer review, from those submitted as extended and revised versions out of fifty-nine shorter papers presented at the Second IFIP Workshop on "Performance Modelling and Evaluation of ATM Networks" July 4-7, 1994, Bradford University. At least three referees from the scientific committee and externally were involved in the selection of each paper.

Download or read book Migrating to ATM Through Multilayer Frame Switched Networking written by James W. Kelly and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) technology has received an unprecedented level of worldwide acceptance as the emerging standard for information communication. Transitioning to new information technologies routinely exposes organizations to new difficulties. Well-considered migration strategies will facilitate the implementation of ATM technology. This study performs an architectural analysis of using frame switched enterprise networking as a strategic step in migrating from conventional networks to ATM networks. Application of the strategy to a multi-vendor, multi-protocol internet, the U.S. Department of Transportation Intermodal Data Network, is considered.
