Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For most military occupational specialties (MOS), the Army lacks objective measures to assess the ability of Soldiers to perform the technical components of their jobs. The objective of this effort was to develop a methodology to produce realistic and cost-effective measures. The authors identified 11 viable types of assessment methods, including computer-based tests and simulations designed to create an engaging, virtual representation of an MOS. Participants in a clustering workshop used this list, descriptions of MOS, and other materials to identify seven groups of MOS. Common to all MOS in a group was their suitability for assessment using a specific type of assessment. The authors developed a two-phased strategy for collecting job analysis information for each group. They provided strategies to reduce the costs of developing and implementing assessment methods, and developed tools to quantify the level of realism in measures. This effort demonstrates that MOS can be grouped into a few clusters for which the same type of assessment method can be used. Following their methodology, it should be possible to create a standard, streamlined approach to job analysis, test design, and test development for each group. Appendixes contain the following: MOS Characteristics, Sample MOS Description, Potential Job Analysis Strategies for use with MOS Clusters, MOS Clusters, Materials for Performing a Preliminary Job Analysis, Assessment Design Guide Template, and Assessment of Realism in Performance Measures.

Book excerpt: Over the course of the past few years, teaching, research, and practice has underscored the importance of performance measurement and criterion development as topics of great interest, considerable debate, and some misunderstanding. It has also become clear that the field needs to address a compendium of research, applications, and issues. Performance Measurement: Current Perspectives and Future Challenges brings together internationally recognized leaders in the field and each examines the subject matter in a way that has never been done--focusing on the dynamic nature of work and the tremendous demands being placed on assessment and measurement as core organizational activities. It also uniquely uses their expertise to provide critical pointers to not only the practical implications of work in the field, but also to the new and continuing issues to be addressed and research to be conducted. The book will be useful to both scientists and practitioners.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurement is absolutely essential for any organization or company, functional area, department, business unit, project, or individual. Companies must know how their processes are performing, how well they are meeting customers’ needs, how targeted improvements are being achieved, and how management is doing. Accurate performance measures tell companies where they are, and to take action if they are not on track or if performance does not meet expectations.Actionable Performance Measurement presents many different methods to help readers develop metrics and performance measures. To aid in corporate measures development and strategic, tactical and/or business planning, a quick and effective method of identifying specific key results areas is outlined and explained. Both customer and employee focuses are presented: how to measure each, and how to develop good surveys. In addition, Howell explains several methods for setting realistic-but-stretch targets, as well as a technique for measuring “apples and oranges.”Readers will be able to measure employee and customer satisfaction, and be prepared to capably lead or be a member of a corporate or business unit measurement team to assess existing performance indicators effectiveness.Included is a student workbook to be used as a teaching tool in conjunction with the books.

Book excerpt: 'The Diversity Scorecard' is designed to provide step-by-step instructions, worksheets and examples to help diversity executives and managers analyze and track the impact of their diversity initiatives to mobilize the organization for strategic culture change. Diversity is not a program; it is a systemic process of organizational change that requires measurement for organizational improvement and success. Measuring the progress and results of diversity initiatives is a key strategic requirement to demonstrate its contribution to organizational performance. Diversity executives, professionals and managers know they must begin to show how diversity is linked to the bottom-line in hard numbers or they will have difficulty maintaining funds, gaining support, and obtaining resources to generate progress. Many organizations collect some type of diversity-related data today, even if it focuses only on Affirmative Action statistics. "The Diversity Scorecard" focuses on tools and techniques to make sure diversity professionals are collecting and measuring the right type of data that will help ensure the organization"s success both now and in the future. This book helps the reader spend some time thinking about what they currently measure and adding new measures to a database to track progress towards their diversity vision. The basic premises of this book are that it is important to develop measures that focus on the past, present, and future; and that measures need to consider the needs of the organization"s diverse workforce, its work climate, diverse customers, the community, and shareholders. Part I of "The Diversity Scorecard" identifies the need for diversity measurement highlighting a business case for diversity and providing an introduction to diversity measurement. Part II of the book outlines the diversity return on investment (DROI) process taking you through step-by-step processes and techniques. Part III teaches you how to use measures in six key categories - Diversity Leadership Commitment, Workforce Profile Representation, Workplace Climate, Learning & Growth, Diverse Customer / Community Partnerships, and Financial Impact - to build a diversity scorecard that is aligned and linked with the business strategy of the organization. Finally, in Part IV, Dr. Hubbard discusses implementation issues involving strategic change procedures and techniques to avoid the pitfalls inherent in a diversity-based cultural transition process.
