Book excerpt: Traditional Western religion explains that each human has a spiritual aspect called a soul. However, several passages in the Bible allude to humans having a soul and a spirit. Dan has explored this idea and found numerous modern psychological findings that support this notion. Shamanism and some Eastern religious concepts also support this idea. Diverse concepts such as creativity and mental illness can be explained by the idea that two spiritual forms are in each human.
Book Synopsis God: The Failed Hypothesis by : Victor J. Stenger
Download or read book God: The Failed Hypothesis written by Victor J. Stenger and published by Prometheus Books. This book was released on 2010-08-05 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout history, arguments for and against the existence of God have been largely confined to philosophy and theology, while science has sat on the sidelines. Despite the fact that science has revolutionized every aspect of human life and greatly clarified our understanding of the world, somehow the notion has arisen that it has nothing to say about the possibility of a supreme being, which much of humanity worships as the source of all reality. This book contends that, if God exists, some evidence for this existence should be detectable by scientific means, especially considering the central role that God is alleged to play in the operation of the universe and the lives of humans. Treating the traditional God concept, as conventionally presented in the Judeo-Christian and Islamic traditions, like any other scientific hypothesis, physicist Stenger examines all of the claims made for God's existence. He considers the latest Intelligent Design arguments as evidence of God's influence in biology. He looks at human behavior for evidence of immaterial souls and the possible effects of prayer. He discusses the findings of physics and astronomy in weighing the suggestions that the universe is the work of a creator and that humans are God's special creation. After evaluating all the scientific evidence, Stenger concludes that beyond a reasonable doubt the universe and life appear exactly as we might expect if there were no God. This paperback edition of the New York Times bestselling hardcover edition contains a new foreword by Christopher Hitchens and a postscript by the author in which he responds to reviewers' criticisms of the original edition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Spirituality of Causation: Scientific Hypothesis Tms work, which I had intended to describe as a. Scien tific Induction, is, like Franklin's happy surmise of the cause of lightning, sent forth under the designation of an Hypothesis; not that I perceive the superior appropriate ness of the latter term but rather because I would of all things avoid the imputation of an unjustifiable assurance to which the former term might in the opinion of a. Valued critical friend make me amenable. Possibly there are to be found many who will regard even the more modest term to be presumptuous; as, applied in its present connexion, it really raises the same question as the other; for while the one indicates that the Mind of Deity has actually been discovered in His work of creation, the other supposes such a discovery to be at least possible. Download or read book The God Hypothesis written by Joe Lewels and published by Granite Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book challenges all the commonly-held beliefs of the modern world, from the scientific, materialist view of reality taught by mainstream, science to the accepted interpretation of the Bible and our understanding of God, angels and demons. Dr Lewels' independent research and bold conclusions about the true nature of God and reality speak volumes about humanity's need to break away from the grasp of consensus thinking and to seek original solutions to the world's problems. His work offers us the broad historical and interdisciplinary perspective needed to fathom the mystery of the UFO and the alien abduction phenomena.
Book Synopsis Religion in Personality Theory by : Frederick Walborn
Download or read book Religion in Personality Theory written by Frederick Walborn and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-12-03 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion in Personality Theory makes clear the link between theory and research and personality and religion. Presently, most personality texts have a limited discussion of religion and reference few theorists other than Freud and Maslow in relation to the subject. This book reviews the theory and the empirical literature on the writings of 14 theorists. Every chapter concludes with a summation of the current research on the theorist’s proposals. Reviews: "Frederick Walborn has written an excellent text that explores the degree to which classical personality theorists were personally influenced by and focused upon religion in developing their personality theories. Each theorist is presented in sufficient detail so that their personal views of religion are seen to influence the theories they developed. In addition, the current status of the empirical evidence in the psychology of religion is explored in the context of the theorist and theory to which the data is most relevant. Current and up to date, this text is appropriate for either a course in Personality or as an introduction to the Psychology of Religion. The author's own comprehensive theory of religion and spirituality creatively integrates the positive contributions of the classical personality theorist to the contemporary psychology of religion." -Ralph W. Hood Jr., Professor of Psychology, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga "In this interesting and accessible book, Frederick Walborn thoughtfully probes the place of religion and spirituality in the writings of a broad range of classical psychological thinkers and offers an insightful critique of current empirical research on the complex relation of religion and spirituality to individual well-being." -Michele Dillon, Ph.D., Professor and Chair, Department of Sociology, University of New Hampshire, Durham, New Hampshire Identifies what major personality theorists say about religion Investigates whether evidence supports or refutes predictions made by different theories Concludes with a comprehensive integrative theory on religion and spirituality
Download or read book The God Theory written by Bernard Haisch and published by ReadHowYouWant.com. This book was released on 2011-05-14 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As science integrates the in-depth knowledge of the physical world accumulated over the past three centuries, it will be channeled into a new and exciting line of inquiry that acknowledges the expanded reality of consciousness as a creative force in the universe and the spiritual creative power embodied in our own minds. This book summarizes the thoughts of an inquisitive, but open-minded, scientist. What I present here is a theory that looks promising, not scientific proof. It should not be surprising, however, if some of what I propose coincides with theories propounded by others who claim a more intimate relationship with the Almighty. After all, if I am on the right track, and if they are, it would be worrisome if we were not, ultimately, in agreement. All I ask is that you seriously consider the logic of my theory, especially if it challenges you to question what you were taught - in Sunday school, in catechism or, dare I say, in physics class. I offer this book, not as a theological treatise, but as a short, readable exposition of a worldview that can bring sense and purpose into individual lives, and tolerance and peace to a planet whose future is in serious jeopardy - in large part because of the irrational dogmatism of both religion and science. If I am correct, we are literally all one being (God) in many individual forms. Why, then, would we continue to harm one another?
