Download or read book Child to Soldier written by Opiyo Oloya and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2013-04-02 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens when children are forced to become child soldiers? How are they transformed from children to combatants? In Child to Soldier, Opiyo Oloya addresses these timely, troubling questions by exploring how Acholi children in Northern Uganda, abducted by infamous warlord Joseph Kony and his Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), become soldiers. Oloya – himself an Acholi, a refugee from Idi Amin’s rule of Uganda, and a high ranking figure in Canadian education – is a scholar who challenges conventional thinking on child-inducted soldiers by illustrating the familial loyalty that develops within a child’s new surroundings in the bush. Based on interviews with former child combatants, this book provides a cultural context for understanding the process of socializing children into violence. Oloya details how Kony and the LRA exploit and pervert Acholi cultural heritage and pride to control and direct the children in war. Child to Soldier is also ground-breaking in its emphasis on the tragic fact that child-inducted soldiers do not remain children forever, but become adults who remain sharply scarred by their introduction into combat at a young age. Given the constant struggle in courts in deciding whether former child-inducted soldiers should be pardoned or prosecuted for their activities and conduct, Oloya’s eye-opening book will have a major impact.

Download or read book Stand Therefore written by Adam Armstrong and published by Hpg Ministries. This book was released on 2013-08 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: STAND THEREFORE is a "field Guide" for Christian soldiers of all ages regardless of military service or length of time as a Christian. Scott A. Harrison (Author) uses his time deployed to Operation Desert Storm as a springboard into how to be an effective soldier for Christ. During his time in Operation Desert Storm, Scott began to see a relationship between that of a soldier in the US Army and a soldier in the Lord's Army. 10 years or so passed and one day while sitting in his office, he came across the Soldiers Manual of Common Tasks (SMCT) which was issued during his time in Basic Training. Thumbing through the SMCT, he began to write about the relationship between an Army soldier and that of a Christian. 3 years later, "Stand Therefore" was completed. We are at war. This war began in the Garden of Eden and will end on a bloody battlefield in a place called Armageddon. The entire Bible is about this war. Satan is the enemy, and Christ has already won the victory. This book is not about Satan's attack on the world in general but rather about his attack on each of us as individual Christians in our role as individual soldiers in God's army. The time has come for all Christians to stand and fight - not a carnal war with rifles, bayonets, and hand grenades but a spiritual war. In my lifetime I have seen the rapid decline of our great nation. War has reached our borders. As the United States of America, the last great hope for accomplishing Christ's Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) to evangelize the world falls to the wiles of the devil, most Christians stand on the sidelines despairing that anything can be done. We are to don the spiritual armor God has given us and fight that souls might be saved. Our Great Commander, the Lord Jesus Christ, died and rose again that we might have life and live a more abundant life. The Lord Jesus Christ paid the price for our sin before we realized we needed such a payment and by doing so, secured our salvation. Christ left with us the Holy Spirit by which we have the strength to stand. Having done all to stand, stand therefore (Ephesians 6:13-14).
Book Synopsis Faithful to Christ: A Challenge to Truly Live for Christ by : Charles H. Spurgeon
Download or read book Faithful to Christ: A Challenge to Truly Live for Christ written by Charles H. Spurgeon and published by Aneko Press. This book was released on 2019-11-30 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Only fear the Lord and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you. - 1 Samuel 12:24 If there is a true faith, there must be a declaration of it. If you are a candle, and God has lit you, then let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in the heavens (Matthew 5:16). Soldiers of Christ must, like soldiers of our nation, wear their uniforms; and if they are ashamed of their uniforms, they ought to be drummed out of the army. I believe that many Christians get into a lot of trouble by not being honest in their convictions. For instance, if a person goes into a workshop, or a soldier into a barracks, and if he does not fly his flag from the beginning, it will be very difficult for him to run it up afterwards. But if he immediately and boldly lets them know, “I am a Christian, and there are certain things that I cannot do to please you, and certain other things that I cannot help doing even though they might displease you” – when that is clearly understood, after a while the peculiarity of the thing will be gone, and the person will be let alone. However, if he is a little dishonest and thinks that he is going to please the world and please Christ too, he can depend on it that he is in for a rough time. If he tries the way of compromise, his life will be like that of a toad under a harrow or a fox in a dog kennel. That will never do. Come out. Show your colors. Let it be known who you are and what you are. Although your course will not be smooth, it will certainly not be half as rough as if you tried to run with the hare and hunt with the hounds, which is a very difficult piece of business. - Charles H.
