Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer Methods for Architects deals with the use of computers in the architecture profession. The text explores where and how computers can and cannot help. The book begins with an explanation of how the majority of the architects around the world were once reluctant to use a computer. It then discusses how some architects improved and advanced the use of computers in the profession. The next part of the book discusses the advantages that a computer can offer an architect, as well as some disadvantages. The next chapter talks about how a computer can handle the files of an entire office. Discussions on the computer's database, proper selection of programs, and simulation techniques are also included in the book. The text finally talks about what the future may hold for computers and architects. This book caters to architects, as it talks about what a person in the field could encounter while using computers.

Book Synopsis The Development of a Computer-aided Building Environment and Services Simulation Model by : Bruce S. Forwood
Download or read book The Development of a Computer-aided Building Environment and Services Simulation Model written by Bruce S. Forwood and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper describes the development of an interactive, computer-aided simulation model for the design and analysis of the service systems creating and maintaining the internal environment of a high-rise office building. The model is part of an overall programme of computer-aided architectural design being developed by the Department of Architectural Science at the University of Sydney, Australia. The model is seen as a practical design-analysis tool as well as a powerful research tool enabling a more thorough investigation of building services and, in particular, their interactions with other components of the building system. The work described is concerned with the high-rise office building situation although the arguments and principles proposed could be extended to other building types. The first part of the paper presents relevant background material to establish a context for the study. Current design methods for building services are reviewed and the application of computers to services design and research in Australia is outlined. Considerations influencing the application of computers to the general architectural design situation are discussed and the approach adopted for the particular problem of building services is summarised . The second part describes the philosophy and the structure of the model. Model input procedures, form of output and general principles of operation are discussed. A description is given of the Vertical Transportation, Air Conditioning and Lighting components of the model. Special attention is given to the procedure of specifying the building form and fabric, and to the data structure underlying the model. The paper concludes with an outline of the proposed developments of the preliminary model and a discussion of the model as a means of investigating the interactions of the service systems with the form and fabric of buildings. The topic of the paper is the subject of a Ph. D. programme being undertaken by the author in the Computer Applications Research Section of the Department of Architectural Science, University of Sydney.
