Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to measure nurses' attitudes towards computerization and identify variables that related to these attitudes. A convenience sample of 103 subjects participated in this study. Criteria for inclusion in this voluntary study was that each respondent was a licensed registered professional nurse. The sample was obtained from the graduate students in the nursing department at Wagner College. Data were collected using a demographic data sheet and Stronge and Brodt's, Nurses Attitudes Toward Computerization Questionnaire. The research design was a non-experimental descriptive study. The theoretical framework utilized in this study was Roy's adaptation model. The data were analyzed using the Epi Info and Numbers Cruncher Statistical Packages. Results revealed that the nurses in this study had positive computer-related attitudes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined nurses' attitudes toward computers before training and 2 months after training. A quantitative approach and a nonexperimental survey design were used in this study. Stronge and Brodt's (1985) instrument, Nurses' Attitudes Toward Computerization Questionnaire, was used to assess 27 nurses' attitudes prior to and 2 months after computer training. Demographic variables also were collected on the questionnaires. The results of this study showed that, overall, nurses had positive attitudes towards computers in both questionnaires. The results of the first questionnaire were consistent with other studies. There were no studies that involved a follow-up questionnaire using Stronge and Brodt's (1985) instrument. Attitude scores of Questionnaire 2 were higher than attitude scores of Questionnaire 1. More time for nursing tasks, less time for quality patient care, and threat to job security questions were found to be statistically significant. This study found no statistical significance between attitudes and demographic variables. Younger nurses a~d nurses with fewer years of computer experience were most likely to exhibit positive attitudes. Implications for practice and future research were discussed. Some limitations were identified and discussed.

Download or read book The Investigation of Nurses' Attitudes Towards Computerization written by Mary McGuire and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a descriptive study to examine nurses' attitudes toward computerization. The project used a non-experimental design, and data was collected using an attitude-scale questionnaire which was given to 800 nurses working in one medical center. Statistical tests to compare variances in groups were used to determine if demographic variables could distinguish subjects with more or less favorable attitudes toward computers. The attitude towards computers served as the dependent variable. Age, gender, years spent in nursing, computer exposure, and education level served as the independent variables. The following hypotheses were tested: (1) There is no relationship between age and attitude in regard to computers; (2) there is no relationship between gender and attitude in regard to computers; (3) there is no relationship between years spent in nursing and attitude in regard to computers; (4) there is no relationship between exposure to computers and attitude in regard to computers; and (5) there is no relationship between education level and attitude in regard to computers. Results were compared to other research data related to nursings' endeavors to computerize. Essentially this study supports past findings that suggests nurses with higher levels of education and those with more computer exposure seem to have more positive attitudes towards computers. Findings of this study will give direction for developing a teaching program to prepare nurses for using computers on nursing units.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The purpose of this quantitative study is to determine nurses' perceptions of electronic documentation. Healthcare organizations have recognized the advantages of electronic documentation, such as legibility, organized data, and the simultaneous use of the record by multiple caregivers and the elimination of paper records. In keeping with a common response to change, nurses can be very resistant to relinquishing the traditional paper records. By collecting the nurses' perceptions of electronic documentation, information will be generated on a pivotal point in the success or failure of implementing and using electronic documentation. The framework from Davis's 1986 Technology Acceptance Model uses perceived usefulness of the system and ease of use as ways of determining if nurses will use a system or not. The study population was 230 licensed vocational nurses and registered nurses who used electronic documentation and delivered direct patient care in the Women's Services department of a local hospital. The tool used to measure the nurses' perceptions was the Nurses Attitudes towards Computerization Questionnaire by Stronge and Brodt. The results of the study indicate that 52% of nurses feel that the Women's Services department of a local hospital. The tool used to measure the nurses' perceptions was the Nurses Attitudes towards Computerization Questionnaire by Stronge and Brodt. The results of the study indicate that 52% of nurses feel that computers made their job easier and that they had more time for professional tasks. The results also indicated that 64% of the nurses believed that computers offered a remarkable opportunity to improve patient care and that computers decrease repeated documentation. The majority of nurses (56%) disagreed with the idea that computers increase healthcare costs and that their use increased nurses' workloads.
