Book excerpt: The Continuous Casting 2000 symposium maintains the tradition established in 1976 of holding regular events. This millennium event, however, is the first international meeting of the series. The aim is to highlight the importance of continuous casting - of aluminum, copper and magnesium - to the international fabricating industry, focusing on technological advances in all the sectors that are important for the manufacture of high quality continuous cast products.
Book Synopsis Metal–Crucible Interactions by : Nagaiyar Krishnamurthy
Download or read book Metal–Crucible Interactions written by Nagaiyar Krishnamurthy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-08-05 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal–Crucible Interactions suggests solutions to a major challenge in high-temperature materials processing. It offers a holistic presentation of the current knowledge of metal–crucible interactions in a compact volume so that readers can make informed decisions on materials selection. Presenting practical information, this book: • Provides an extensive summary of the compatibility a huge variety of metal–container combinations, assembles information about all known significant interactions, and evaluates how they are managed • Explains the underlying reasons for the occurrence and extent of incompatibility between metals and containment and presents some possible solutions • Outlines analytical experimental techniques to quantify compatibility/incompatibility • Covers issues and resolution in interrelated solid–solid, solid–liquid, solid–gas and solid–liquid–gas processes determining compatibility • Discusses all the metals - ferrous, common non ferrous, reactive and refractory metals, rare earths, and the important alloys as well as compounds and special compositions that tide over or remain prone to degradation due to compatibility issues • Highlights the value of addressing all interrelated issues in arriving at reliable solutions to compatibility challenges Aimed at readers in industries dealing with materials processing at high temperatures, research scientists and engineers, and graduate students, this book addresses a topic vital to stimulating immediate and long-term research and development, in ways not previously covered in other books.

Book Synopsis Cast and Wrought Aluminium Bronzes by : Harry Meigh
Download or read book Cast and Wrought Aluminium Bronzes written by Harry Meigh and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-04-24 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuous casting of non-ferrous metals has been practised for well over 100 years. It has many advantages over static ingot and book mould casting, the most important being improved yield, reduced energy consumption and reduction of manpower, with a consequent reduction in cost. This book shows how the prrocess can be used in an engineering environment for casting a wide range of copper based alloys and precious metals, including gold and silver, and selected nickel alloys.

Book Synopsis Continuous Casting by : Michael Vynnycky
Download or read book Continuous Casting written by Michael Vynnycky and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuous casting is an industrial process whereby molten metal is solidified into a semi-finished billet, bloom, or slab for subsequent rolling in finishing mills; it is the most frequently used process to cast not only steel, but also aluminium and copper alloys. Since its widespread introduction for steel in the 1950s, it has evolved to achieve improved yield, quality, productivity and cost efficiency. It allows lower-cost production of metal sections with better quality, due to the inherently lower costs of continuous, standardized production of a product, as well as providing increased control over the process through automation. Nevertheless, challenges remain and new ones appear, as ways are sought to minimize casting defects and to cast alloys that could originally only be cast via other means. This Special Issue of the journal ""Metals"" consists of 14 research articles that cover many aspects of experimental work and theoretical modelling related to the ongoing development of continuous casting processes.
