The dictator and his fools that Bonhoeffer mentioned in his books are still around. Unfortunately, no lesson is learned from the sufferings of the past and therefore history just repeats itself. Technological advancement has brought outer space increasingly in human’s reach, yet people are more passionate than even primitive societies in surrendering their willpower to the dictators. In this book, you will read the tragic story of a family escaping from the dictator of Turkey and his fools.

The frog-turned-prince cannot talk anymore, so only a miracle can save him now. This is pretty much what happened to the volunteers of the Hizmet Movement. Using a staged fake coup, the patriots of this country were framed in just one night as traitors by the evil corrupt political power and their names were added into the lists of torture and death. All their properties have been seized and they were left no other choice but to escape from their homeland. What you will read below are the true stories of the Hizmet volunteers, one of them is a past lawyer of Bank Asya and the other is a distinguished scientist. You will witness how their lives have been taken from them after that ominous night of coup and how they fought back to save their families from evil. The only difference between these stories and those fairy tales is that… everything in this story is true!

I will never say “Well, it is just fate, and there is nothing we can do about it.” No, I will not step aside! I will demand justice until justice is done! Yes, I believe firmly in destiny and the Hereafter, but I also believe that if I let those perpetrators get away with their horrendous crimes, shame on me! Yes, shame on me! Until my last breath, I will chase the murderers and their bosses! I will do everything in my power, and if I cannot get any results in this world… There is a God! There is a Hereafter! There is Divine Justice! I fully believe!

Book excerpt: This qualitative journey explores how literature informs and challenges my under¬standing of teaching and learning. Insights, questions, and conflicts are revealed through a series of essays in which my evolving teacher identity is illuminated through literature and imagination. Hopefully reading this portrayal of literature, which has been a source of educational insight and imagination for me, will be of use to other educators as they reflect on their own teaching. The primary works of literature used to facilitate this journey are: The Red Badge of Courage (1895), Les Miserables (1862), and American Idiot (2004); Light in August (1932), Seinfeld scripts (1991-98), and Frankenstein (1818); and The Odyssey, Night (1960), and The Souls of Black Folk (1903). By delving beneath my exterior ‘teacher mask,’ a collage of images, anecdotes, reflections, aspirations, and fears is exposed. As a resource for pre-service teachers or a reflective exercise for veteran teachers, this study aims to benefit educators by providing a new pathway through which to better understand their intrinsic identities as teachers. Each chapter concludes with “Recommendations for Reflection” that readers are encouraged to consider individu¬ally and/or collectively. The spirit of daydreams allows me to integrate literature, autobiography, and imagi¬nation through inventive and inspired discourses with literary figures, using au¬thentic quotations as content for original commentaries that further examine the intrinsic nature of teacher identity. My hope is that this journey will inspire other educators to further reflect on realities and possibilities of what it means to be a teacher.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed for both individual use and professional development programs, Self-Care for Teachers provides guided reflections and practical advice for classroom teachers and educational leaders alike, and will be of immediate benefit to many who feel overwhelmed by the increasing demands of the profession and are struggling to avoid burn out and find balance. Clearly, many teachers are stretched to the breaking point, and much the same could be said of many administrators. Indeed, there is a curious conspiracy at work in overwork. Teachers typically find it almost impossible to say “no” to more work and greater expectations, just as administrators can’t help themselves asking for more. With the best of intentions, we all put students first, and sacrifice ourselves as necessary. Various remedies have been suggested, but most focus on managerial strategies or pedagogical reform—organizations and teaching rather than teachers. Dr. Allen’s approach is fundamentally different. Twenty-five years wide experience in education—beginning with a boys’ boarding school and including a university lectureship, a post at a prestigious prep school, and various teaching and administrative positions in international schools—has convinced him two simple truths. Teachers can never meet the endless demands of the profession. Not only that, but as much as we care for our students, we don’t look after ourselves very well. Consequently, he suggests that a good part of the solution to the beguiling business of overwork and its attendant maladies must be what he has come to call “self-care,” both a missing piece of pedagogy and an overlooked aspect of educational leadership. By “self-care” I simply mean learning to look after ourselves better so that we can continue to look after our students as we would like to. However much (or little) we are supported in our work and outside it, I suggest that we appoint ourselves our own “chief care givers” and consciously seek whatever it is which sustains us most. The purpose of this book is to further that initiative. Since, by self-selection, rigorous training, and long habit, educators often become used to unnecessary self-sacrifice and constant self-neglect, Self-Care for Teachers emphasizes learning—learning to look after one’s self—and is as inspirational as it is instructional, balancing inventory exercises with personal anecdotes. Self-Care for Teachers will help educators everywhere to regain their balance, reclaim their time, and renew their practice, and will be of critical importance to thousands of teachers and administrators in the IB (International Baccalaureate) Program who believe in the IB ideal of balance but require explanation and guidance to make this concept a reality in their lives and schools. Blending current research, personal experience, and literary reflections, Self-Care for Teachers at once scholarly, artful, and moving. Written in a lively and accessible style, this thought-provoking work invites readers to reconsider long-held views and values about vocation, success, balance, time, productivity, and spirituality. By reconsidering these fundaments together, educators everywhere can literally change their minds about their work as professionals and their lives as people, and move towards greater peace, productivity, and pleasure.

Book excerpt: This New York Times bestseller intimately depicts urban life in a gripping book that slips behind cold statistics and sensationalism to reveal the true sagas lurking behind the headlines of gangsta glamour. In her extraordinary bestseller, Adrian Nicole LeBlanc immerses readers in the intricacies of the ghetto, revealing the true sagas lurking behind the headlines of gangsta glamour, gold-drenched drug dealers, and street-corner society. Focusing on two romances—Jessica’s dizzying infatuation with a hugely successful young heroin dealer, Boy George, and Coco’s first love with Jessica's little brother, Cesar—Random Family is the story of young people trying to outrun their destinies. Jessica and Boy George ride the wild adventure between riches and ruin, while Coco and Cesar stick closer to the street, all four caught in a precarious dance between survival and death. Friends get murdered; the DEA and FBI investigate Boy George; Cesar becomes a fugitive; Jessica and Coco endure homelessness, betrayal, the heartbreaking separation of prison, and, throughout it all, the insidious damage of poverty. Charting the tumultuous cycle of the generations—as girls become mothers, boys become criminals, and hope struggles against deprivation—LeBlanc slips behind the cold statistics and sensationalism and comes back with a riveting, haunting, and true story.
