Book excerpt: As a lifelong storyteller and mom resource, Lori Koch realized her own experiences of raising three girls could easily be used as a learning opportunity for other parents. Just as adults read children stories to help them learn, Lori's motto has always been that adults learn best through stories. Her debut book is an effective teaching memoir that allows parents to gain insight into parenting through relatable stories. Lori bares the reality of her family life with three girls as uniquely opposite as three can be. Included throughout A Mommy's Road are helpful pop-out tips, and each chapter ends with Lori reflecting on her own rearview mirror. During these reflections, parents have the opportunity to see how Lori's insight can be applied to their own road of parenting.

The shameful title of deadbeat mom, carries no weight as to what the actual truth of the matter is. What mother could leave her children for sex, drugs and alcohol? This book is the story of a woman who once did just that and overcame that title. The road to reclaiming motherhood is treacherous. There is a reality to face and in a world of instant gratification, this takes time. Success and results don't come instantaneously but with this book, you have entered into a Divine set up. Through this story, you will gain hope in knowing that you are not alone. Victory is attainable and you are victorious. Today is the first day of the rest of your life and rear view mirrors are made small for a reason. Put your hiking boots on and take the first step up what seems to be an unclimbable mountain. The families and loved ones affected by addiction will also gain hope in hearing what goes through the mind of a deadbeat mom. When I first began the journey of writing this book, I didn't know that it would take the path of throwing out a life raft to the loved ones. You may be tired and you may want to give up and that is understandable. What I want you to know is, although you don't know me, I have been praying for you for quite some time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The coming of the railways signalled the transformation of European society, allowing the quick and cheap mass transportation of people and goods on a previously unimaginable scale. By the early decades of the twentieth century, however, the domination of rail transport was threatened by increased motorised road transport which would quickly surpass and eclipse the trains, only itself to be challenged in the twenty-first century by a renewal of interest in railways. Yet, as the studies in this volume make clear, to view the relationship between road and rail as a simple competition between two rival forms of transportation, is a mistake. Rail transport did not vanish in the twentieth century any more than road transport vanished in the nineteenth with the appearance of the railways. Instead a mutual interdependence has always existed, balancing the strengths and weaknesses of each system. It is that interdependence that forms the major theme of this collection. Divided into two main sections, the first part of the book offers a series of chapters examining how railway companies reacted to increasing competition from road transport, and exploring the degree to which railways depended on road transportation at different times and places. Part two focuses on road mobility, interpreting it as the innovative success story of the twentieth century. Taken together, these essays provide a fascinating reappraisal of the complex and shifting nature of European transportation over the last one hundred years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is the first comprehensive empirical study of transport infrastructure in two socialist countries in the years 1945–1989. In the case study of Yugoslavia, the construction of roads was interrelated with building socialist and trans-ethnic identities, uniting all federal republics. In practice, the “Brotherhood and Unity Highway” was an artery linking the capitals of the most industrialized republics, neglecting Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and parts of Macedonia. In socialist Bulgaria existed a clear ideological link between transport and nation building. Bulgarian roads’ disintegrative function was best seen in the example of the “Highway Ring” which, constructed as an inner circle, isolated the border regions and areas inhabited by Bulgarian Muslims and Turks.

Book excerpt: He doesn’t know he’s tarnished. She unknowingly sees his wounds. But can you fix a broken ghost? Christopher Lynch is the biggest man whore you can find. I can’t believe he’s in medical school, sharing an education under the same roof as me. The worst part is he’s two tables over, giving me his bedroom eyes, in a campus bar. I could puke. He has the gall to come on to me, too, as I come out of the washroom. I’m not sure how he was raised, but it wasn’t in the same type of household I was raised in, with one parent; namely, a stepdad who taught me to steer clear of men like Christopher. But when I put the so-called med student in his place, it’s almost like I break him…and somehow, I realize that there is more under that narcissistic sneer than meets the eye. *** Ashley is hot, like, super hot, but she hates me. Everyone thinks my reputation was earned. Everyone thinks that they know me. But tonight, Ashley broke through. She saw a side of me that nobody else has, including myself. As soon as her fist made contact with my face, it all started coming back. She looked at me like I’d sprouted a new head, and maybe I had. What comes next is something neither of us expects. The tables turn and the truth comes crashing down, just as we both realize that we’ve made the biggest mistake of our lives…or is it the best mistake? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today we can hardly imagine life in Europe without roads and theautomobiles that move people and goods around. In fact, the vastmajority of movement in Europe takes place on the road. Travelersuse the car to explore parts of the continent on their holidays, and goods travel large distances to reach consumers. Indeed, thetwentieth century has deservedly been characteried as the centuryof the car. The situation looked very different around 1900.People crossing national borders by car encountered multiplehurdles on their way. Technically, they imported their vehicleinto a neighboring country and had to pay astronomic importduties. Often they needed to pass a driving test in each countrythey visited. Early on, automobile and touring clubs sought tomake life easier for traveling motorists.International negotiations tackled the problems arising fromdiffering regulations. The resulting volume describes everythingfrom the standardied traffic signs that saved human lives on theroad to the Europabus taking tourists from Stockholm to Romein the 1950s. Driving Europe offers a highly original portrait of aEurope built on roads in the course of the twentieth century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of this book is taken from Proverbs 23:25: "May your father and mother be glad; may she who gave you birth rejoice." The message is quite simple""to encourage parents with preteen children to see God our Father as our Mentor for parenting and to enjoy the learning process on this journey of parenting. This is more of a WHY to parent book, rather than a how to parent book. God, in His infinite wisdom, created families and revealed Himself to us as our Heavenly Father""calling us His chosen and beloved children. Sending Jesus as His only Son to show His love for us, God weaves the parent""child metaphor throughout scripture to help us understand what it means to be created in His image and for His good purpose. Do you ever wonder why God created families? Psalm 68:6 states, "God sets the lonely in families." First Timothy 5:8 (emphasis added) makes very clear the priority of parenting to our Heavenly Father: "If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." Why does God bless us with His children to raise? Because, as parents, we learn so much about ourselves""and more importantly""we learn so much about why God created us and placed us in families. A devotional aspect is added to this book for those who want to use it as a personal devotional or in a parenting class setting.

Book excerpt: One thing sets her apart from other modern-day superheroes: mom genes. Annie Fingardt Forster used to be a lawyer who wore dry-clean only and shaved both legs. But things have changed. Now a stay-at-home mom, she wears cargo pants and ponytails and harbors a nearly pathological hatred towards hipster parents. With a three-year-old and a baby on the way, Annie knows what to expect...at least, she thought she did. Faced with her husband's job loss, pre-school politics, and a playground throwdown with her arch nemesis, Annie realizes that even with her husband and friends by her side, what she really needs is to learn to suck it up-and take it like a mom.
