This book was released on 2007 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book in the literature to cover the development and testing practices for liquid rocket engines in Russia and the former Soviet Union.Combustion instability represents one of the most challenging probelms in the development of propulsion engines. A famous example is the F-1 engines for the first stage of the Saturn V launch vehicles in the Apollo project. More than 2000 full engine tests and a vast number of design modifications were conducted to cure the instability problem. This book contains first-hand information about the testing and development practices for treating liquid rocket combustion-instability problems in Russia and the former Soviet Union. It covers more than 50 years of research, with an emphasis placed on the advances made since 1970.The book was prepared by a former R&D director of the Research Institute of Chemical Engineering, NIICHIMMASH, the largest liquid rocket testing center in the world, and has been carefully edited by three well-known experts in the field.
Book Synopsis Investigation of Air-Augmented Rocket Combustion and Mixing Processes by : W. H. Sargent
Download or read book Investigation of Air-Augmented Rocket Combustion and Mixing Processes written by W. H. Sargent and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data on coaxial jet mixing and combustion developed during a ten-week test program are presented along with a limited analysis of results. The test was conducted with a rocket motor simulator which generated a fuel-rich primary stream. The combustion of the primary stream was varied systematically through a broad range of conditions, and the exchange processes were observed in a secondary mixing duct by means of wall pressure measurements, thrust measurements, and measurements of heat flux. Photographic observations were made of the primary stream operating as a free jet. Preliminary analysis indicates that the length of duct required for momentum and energy exchange to occur depends primarily upon the secondary air mass flow. A brief discussion is included on the grouping of variables in afterburning problems, and a simplified 'throttling number' parameter is suggested. Also included are the results of a mixing zone computation in which the differential equations of coaxial mixing are solved by a finite difference procedure. Results are presented of calculations made to predict wall pressure profiles that are influenced by the presence of the bluff face of the primary stream blast tube. This analysis covers the flow regime that extends to the length of the primary stream potential core. (Author).

Download or read book Turbulent Mixing and Combustion of a Rocket Exhaust Jet with the Surrounding Atmosphere. Part I. the Balanced Jet written by Leon V. Feigenbutz and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The flow field for a free jet, burning with the surrounding atmosphere, was calculated. The calculations were carried out for two different cases. In the first case, a rocket engine whose exit pressure is balanced with the ambient pressure of the standard atmosphere of 15,500 ft. is considered. In the second, a rocket engine whose exit pressure is balanced with the ambient pressure of the standard atmosphere at an altitude of 50,000 ft. is considered. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 24th International Symposium on Shock Waves (ISSW24) was held at the Beijing Friendship Hotel during July 11-16, 2004, in Beijing. It was a great pleasure for the Local Organizing Committee to organize the ISSW in China for the first time, because forty-seven years have passed since the First Shock Tube Symposium was held in 1957 at Albuquerque. The ISSW24 had to be postponed for one year because of the SARS outbreak in Beijing shortly before the Symposium was scheduled to be held in 2003, but it has achieved success due to the continuous support and kind understanding from all the delegates. It is very heart-warming to have had such an experience and I am very happy to have served as chairman for the Symposium. I would like to thank all for the contributions and help that they have given us over the past three years, without which we would not have had the Symposium. A total of 460 abstracts were submitted to the ISSW24. Each of the abstracts was evaluated by three members of the Scientific Review Committee and the decision on acceptance wasmade based on the reviewers' reports. 195oral papers, including 9plenary lectures, wereaccepted to be presented in three parallel sessions, and 135poster papers in three dedicated poster sessions. Topics discussed in these papers cover all aspects ofshock wave research.
