Next to the laws of irritability an insight into the modern concepts of osmotic pressure as formulated by Devries vant' Hofi, Arrhenius, H. J. Hamburger, and Jacques Loeb offer the most fertile lines for combined laboratory and didactic teaching and mental training. Then follow the Doctrines on fermentation, on cell catalysis, on immunity, internal secretion, on the ejects of inorganic salts on life processes, etc. The aim has been to start the practical instructions in as simple a manner as possible and gradually introduce, explain, and apply the Doctrines of General physiology.
