Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many readers of the Bible, there are two major obstacles to the enjoyment of scripture: comprehension and relevancy. In A Lifetime of Genesis, Rabbi Zoob seeks to help the reader overcome these obstacles. In clear, logical prose, Rabbi Zoob explains the course of the Covenant of Abraham in Genesis and how each major player--Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, and Leah--has an impact on the development and continuity of the Covenant of Abraham. He solves the relevancy problem by sharing stories from his life that are connected to the patriarchal and matriarchal events and themes in each previous chapter. For example, following an analysis of the challenge of infertility that Abraham and Sarah faced, he tells the story of how he and his wife Barbara struggled through thirteen years of childlessness. And after the chapter on how Jacob wrestled with the angel and the many challenges in his life, Rabbi Zoob recalls his sibling struggles with his brother and his wrestling with seasonal depression. Rabbi Zoob hopes that his use of this midrashic process to discover personal insights will encourage the reader to do the same.

Book excerpt: Genesis is foundational to the Bible narrative allowing us to better understand man's relationship with God. It also enables us to understand the role of the Holy Spirit of God in transforming the earth from being without form, to being suitable to support all living creatures, including man. It is in Genesis that we realise that it is not a case of siding with Creationists od Evolutionist, because the creation did not happen in an instant but, according to a Jewish scholar, the Hebrew Bible agrees that it took 15.75 billion years. making the book of Genesis very worthwhile studying. The people whose lives are here recorded may have lived ti us unsophisticated lives, but they had all the feelings and emotions we experience. They still had decisions to make in a variety of true life situations without knowing what the future held. This fact alone enables us to empathise with them and learn from their experiences. What is more it is interesting to consider the life of Joseph, the only one of Jacob's twelve sons who loved God to the point where in spite of his descent into the abyss of an Egyptian prison, he never lost his faith and was very well rewarded. There are two accounts in this book of the life of Joseph, one by a Jew, that are fascinating to read and very inspirational. Genesis is essential reading for all believers, Jews and Gentiles alike.

We think the creation story is merely background material for what comes later in Scripture. But God's work of creation is more than a mere record of how God fabricated the physical universe. Instead, it's a pattern for God's overarching work in all things, namely, that God is taking that which is dead and turning it into life. Life out of Death guides you through a thirty-day journey of Genesis 1, where authors Thomas Keiser and Phillip Hall demonstrate how the Genesis 1 creation account applies to everyday life.

Book excerpt: The data on dates in Genesis were recorded in historical and genealogical terms, but what would it look like if recast in modern engineering constructs. The rise of modern creation science is often attributed to Dr. Henry Morris. Today there are many creation science organizations and ministries that review the claims of the Bible and contrast them with known historical, archeological and scientific facts. These ministries compare the Word of God with known scientific, archeological, historical, and geological facts to demonstrate that modern mankind's knowledge gained independently from the Bible is, in fact, consistent with the Bible and not in contradiction to it. They also contrast the Bible with modern theories that contradict the Bible and demonstrate that the Bible's version of events is consistent with the facts and that the man-made theories do not have satisfying explanations. These ministries take modern discoveries such as soft tissue in dinosaur remains that are contrasted with the supposed 65 million years since the dinosaurs perished to demonstrate that the secular time of 65 million is incompatible with dinosaur soft tissue, but totally in line with the timeline of Noah's flood which was only a few thousand years ago. These ministries are very important for the modern Christian faith and I highly recommend that all believers familiarize themselves with these types of ministries and support them as the Holy Spirit leads. In this book we take an alternative approach. Instead of using modern scientific data and comparing it to what the Bible says on the subject, this book looks at the data within the Bible and analyses it to determine if the data fits a scientific pattern as we currently understand applied science, also called technology. In other words, does the data fit known technological constructs? As you go through the book, we will present various technological constructs contained in the data. While the people that made the observations of the years of life recorded in Genesis were highly intelligent, there is so far no archeological evidence that they had the scientific knowledge that we have today. So, if people without scientific knowledge record data that can be put in a scientific construct, this implies that the data was accurately recorded as opposed to being made up. In addition, we will expand the reader's view of the relationships between these ancient ancestors of the faith. We also analyze the data for some projections as well as provide an appendix that has more technological analyses for those interested in digging a little deeper. We have tried very hard to make the text readable to those who are well versed believers but may not be aware of the technological aspects of the subjects covered. We would appreciate your feedback on what you read in an effort to continually improve this dialog. May the Lord bless you as you read this book

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A beginning. An origin. A foundation. Knowing where we came from says much about where we are going. Perhaps that is why the first book of the Bible is a book of beginnings. God wants us to know where we came from. Learning that will teach us much about the place we are going. The book of Genesis brings us back to the beginning of the Bible, where the foundation of life itself is explained. We learn how we were created, about the origins of sin and its fallout, and how to best relate to God – through obedience and trust. We are drawn into tales of deceit, jealousy, and outright failure, where we see how God still uses flawed people. And weaving throughout these earliest stories of humankind are the golden threads of God’s promises – promises we can trace from their origins, through the course of history, up through our lives today, and beyond us to the end of time when his final promises will at last be fulfilled. The Life Lessons with Max Lucado series brings the Bible to life in twelve lessons filled with intriguing questions, inspirational stories, and poignant reflections to take you deeper into God’s Word. Each lesson includes an opening reflection, background information, an excerpt of the text (from the New International and New King James versions), exploration questions, inspirational thoughts from Max, and a closing takeaway for further reflection. The Life Lessons series is ideal for use in both a small-group setting and for individual study.

Book excerpt: The book's chief concern, however, is not just the physical origins of humanity and God's people, but more so about the relationship that God desires to have with the people he created who inhabit his earth. How Adam and Eve, though sinless when created, fell into sin, and the evil consequences of their sin passed on to the entire human race who were was descended from them. Rebellious humanity deserved, and received God's judgment, but that judgment was always mixed with mercy. God did not destroy the human life he had created. Rather he worked through it to provide a way of salvation available to all. His way was to choose one man (Abraham), from whom he would build a nation (Israel), through which he would make his will know, and then eventually produce the Saviour of the world (Jesus). The book of Genesis not only shows how humanity began but subsequently rebelled against God and fell under his judgment. However, it shows also how God began to carry out his plan for their salvation fully revealed in the New Testament through Jesus Christ.

Book excerpt: One of Israel’s most successful venture capitalists uses the words and actions of the Hebrew patriarchs to lay the foundations for a modern growth economy based on timeless business principles and values. Entrepreneurs, businessmen, and investors are constantly looking for principles and rules that will pave the way for success. Usually, those at the forefront are successful entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley or legendary Wall Street investors. But the principles of economic growth, wealth creation and preservation were written long before the rise of the modern market economy and its heroes. Michael Eisenberg—one of the most successful venture capitalists in Israel, and one of the first investors in Lemonade, and Wix—reveals in The Tree of Life and Prosperity the eternal principles for successful business, economics, and negotiation hidden in the Torah—and shows their relevance to the modern world we live in.
