Book Synopsis Routledge Revivals: Vocational Education and Training in the Developed World (1979) by : Leonard Cantor
Download or read book Routledge Revivals: Vocational Education and Training in the Developed World (1979) written by Leonard Cantor and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1989, this book primarily sets out to provide detailed accounts of the policy towards and the provision of vocational education and training in five countries of the developed world: Japan, Australia, the United States, the Federal Republic of Germany, and the United Kingdom. Professor Cantor concentrates on the training of skilled personnel at operative, craft, and technician levels, and describes provision both within public and private institutions, such as further education colleges, and in industry and business. Comparisons are drawn between each country, for example between the ‘British’ traditions of vocational education and training in Australia and the United Kingdom, and the more ‘entrepreneurial’ approach of Japan and the United States.

Book Synopsis Career Development as a Partner in Nation Building Australia by : Wendy Patton

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite examples of vocational guidance practice being evident in Australia since the mid-1800s, there remains a spasmodic and patchwork approach to practice across the country. For decades it is a field which has been paradoxically boosted and challenged by changing economic and political agendas. Repeated international, national and State reviews emphasise the vital nature of a systemic national approach to career development, however authors repeatedly lament the lack of a sustained focus on career activity as a major national priority. There is no broad comprehensive historical reckoning of the history of career development theory and practice in Australia since this early period. Career development theory and practice in Australia has been forged in partnership with developments in an international context. In documenting the shared history with other countries, the author significantly adds to the body of knowledge on career development as a field in Australia and internationally. The book provides new understandings about the historical development of this field of knowledge, and in particular the challenging and cyclical nature of its policy history.

This book was released on 2008-12-16 with total page 1103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) research has become a recognized and well-defined area of interdisciplinary research. This is the first handbook of its kind that specifically concentrates on research and research methods in TVET. The book’s sections focus on particular aspects of the field, starting with a presentation of the genesis of TVET research. They further feature research in relation to policy, planning and practice. Various areas of TVET research are covered, including on the vocational disciplines and on TVET systems. Case studies illustrate different approaches to TVET research, and the final section of the book presents research methods, including interview and observation methods, as well as of experimentation and development. This handbook provides a comprehensive coverage of TVET research in an international context, and, with special focus on research and research methods, it is a cutting-edge resource and reference.
Book Synopsis Teacher Development Outside the United States by : Mindi S. Maline
Download or read book Teacher Development Outside the United States written by Mindi S. Maline and published by U.S. Government Printing Office. This book was released on 1994 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purposes of this U.S. Department of Education project were twofold: (1) to explore the process for obtaining materials, documents, and publications from abroad that were "fugitive" in nature (i.e., documents not typically found in the ERIC system or library collections); and (2) to develop a database of both the materials collected and the people contacted or identified as having expertise in teacher training. The search yielded materials, mostly in English, from more than 38 countries. This annotated bibliography contains a selection of the English language materials collected, along with several ERIC documents and journal articles. The entries vary from general descriptions of teacher training programs and requirements to proposed reform strategies. Also included are many studies of student teacher experiences, training effectiveness, and specific activities such as practicum experiences and distance learning. (LL)

Download or read book Global Human Resource Development written by Thomas N. Garavan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-05 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on contributions from leading academics in the field, this volume within the Routledge Series in Human Resource Development specifically focuses on Global Human Resource Development (HRD). Specifically, the volume provides an overview of 17 regions, 85 countries and includes one emerging market grouping, CIVETS. This book examines the role of the state in HRD, the relationship between HRD and the level of economic development in the country or region, the influence of foreign direct investment within the country or region, and firm-level HRD practices within countries or regions. Global Human Resource Development analyzes HRD from institutional and cross-cultural perspectives, making it possible, for the first time, to analyze trends across countries and regions and to draw conclusions about the value of institutional and cross-cultural perspectives in the HRD context. There is currently no book on the market that conceptualizes the discipline of global HRD in this way, making this a definitive book on HRD across the globe of particular interest to researchers and reflective practitioners.

Book Synopsis Competency in Teaching by : Eric N. Tuxworth
Download or read book Competency in Teaching written by Eric N. Tuxworth and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this report, the author reviews the actual and potential use of competence and performance based teacher education (C/PBTE) in regard to further education in England. He describes the concept of further education, reviews existing practices, and makes a number of suggestions for future action. The author first outlines the development and use of this individualized modular system in the United States and then analyzes the arguments for and against such a behaviorist approach to teacher skills. He claims that while much work is needed in adapting this system to the English system, experience elsewhere indicates the C/PBTE removes "some of the mystique and institutional restrictions which surround teacher education." The author notes that the development of these modules in the United States required an investment of $2 million and says that not all of the 100 modules available are relevant to the United Kingdom. He suggests, however, that various bodies, including the further education establishment, could valuably support developmental work based on the modular approach. (Two appendixes to the report describe the tentative approaches that have been made in the United Kingdom in this field, while other appendixes describe modules that are available and how they are used.)
