Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ancestry of Washington, both Paternal and Maternal, has always been a subject of interest and enquiry with the American people; and that of the De Wessyntons, on the former side, one of much controversy among antiquarians engaged in tracing it. Though also possessed of some information of possible importance, and conflicting with the most generally accepted theories upon that subject, I propose to confine myself on this occasion to a consideration of the latter, and less known, the Maternal side of his house; and, before I pass away myself from this mortal stage, to record, for the benefit of posterity, some fragmentary information concerning it, which exceptional facilities have enabled me, from time to time, to gather, and which extends backward from the present time to the seventh generation before its establishment on American soil. The name of his mother, familiar now to all mankind, was Mary Ball, a descendant, as we are informed in Bishop Meade's "Old Families of Virginia," of Colonel William Ball, who "came from England, with his family, about the year 1650, and settled at the mouth of Corotoman river, in Lancaster County, Virginia."--Pg. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Ball Family: Genealogy of the New Haven Branch, Allen Ball and Some of His Descendants, 1638-1864 Leonard Abraham Bradley was a descendant of Allen Ball through Mary Ball (daughter of Deacon Stephen Ball), who married Abraham Bradley, his grandfather. Abram Bradley, as he was generally known, was born in New Haven, Connecticut, March 14th, 1833, and graduated at Yale College in the Class of 1855, of which he was the Vice-Secretary for many years. After studying for a few months at the Union Theological Seminary of New York, he decided to follow the law as his profession. He graduated at the Yale Law School, '55-56, and was admitted to the Bar Association of New York in 1858, and to the Connecticut Bar in 1870. He resided in New York for thirty years and was for a long time in the office of Strong & Cadwalader, whose Senior partner, Mr. Charles E.Strong, was his cousin. Mr. Bradley was a well known Real Estate specialist. He never married and passed away in New Haven, April 18th, 1898. Mr. Bradley commenced his genealogical studies soon after leaving College. This Ms of the Ball Genealogy, dated October 21st, 1864, was the second of his studies on the subject, and it seems to have been then completed and ready for the press. Just about that period he began the study of the Bradley Family. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Edward Ball and Some of His Descendants The importance of preserving family records in print is now universally admitted by intelligent people, and family histories are constantly appearing. In the pages that follow, an elaborate genealogy is not attempted, hut simply a modest effort to gather a few threads that might otherwise be lost. It was hoped that Edward Hall might have been traced to his English home, hut as was usually the case with the first comers to New England, no record is found to assist the investigator, nor is Edward's name found in any ship list as a passenger. At least half a dozen Halls of his generation, or the generation before, are found as settlers in various parts of New England, hut they are not any of them known to he connected with the subject of our sketch, though one of them, John Hall, early of the Isle of Shoals, was there engaged in prosecuting the fisheries, which was in part the avocation also of Edward Hall.
