Book Synopsis Flawed Families of the Bible by : David E. Garland
Download or read book Flawed Families of the Bible written by David E. Garland and published by Brazos Press. This book was released on 2007-03-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most Christians believe that the Bible holds the answers to their questions about daily living, and that reading the Scriptures will show them good examples to follow for their own lives. Think for a moment and try to list a few examples of healthy families in the Bible who are ideals worth emulating. Having trouble? The families of the Bible were far from perfect, and not so different in that regard from our imperfect families today. In Flawed Families of the Bible, a New Testament scholar (David) and a professor of social work (Diana) take a real and close look at the actual families of the Bible. This honest book will inspire and encourage readers with its focus on the overarching theme of hope and grace for families, showing that it is in the "imperfect places" that we can catch a glimpse of grace. Perfect for pastors, counselors, and anyone in a flawed family.

Book Synopsis A Testimony of Jesus Christ - Volume 2 by : Anthony Charles Garland
Download or read book A Testimony of Jesus Christ - Volume 2 written by Anthony Charles Garland and published by SpiritAndTruth.org. This book was released on 2007 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Commentary on the Book of Revelation - Volume 2 The author presents a detailed study of the Book of Revelation emphasizing prophetic themes from the rest of the Bible which find their fulfillment in Revelation. To understand this controversial book, the author explores the many connections between the visions seen by the Apostle John and previous prophetic revelation given to Old Testament prophets such as Daniel, Ezekiel, and others. It is the author's conviction that an understanding of related passages elsewhere in the Bible is the most important key to unlocking the bewildering variety of interpretations which often accompany the study of the last book of the Bible. The commentary can be used in conjunction with a free companion internet course providing an additional 70 hours of audio instruction linked to almost 1,000 slides.
Book Synopsis And God Save Judy Garland by : Randy Eddy-McCain
Download or read book And God Save Judy Garland written by Randy Eddy-McCain and published by . This book was released on 2014-06-05 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One year before the Little Rock Nine bravely endured threats of violence and death to integrate Central High School, Randy Eddy-McCain was born in Arkansas. He grew up in a conservative Assemblies of God church where he fell in love with Jesus as a little boy. As Randy got older, he felt called by God to go into the ministry, but he had what religion taught him was a problem. He was attracted to men, not women. He hoped he might grow out of it. He prayed he'd grow out of it, but when that didn't happen, he explored what it meant to be gay. Without an example of how a gay man could be a Christian, Randy moved back and forth between what seemed like two conflicting worlds. As a Christian he tried not to be gay, and as a gay man, he tried to ignore how much he still loved Jesus and wanted to minister to people in need. Turmoil turned to peace when Randy was able to embrace both his faith and his sexuality. He committed his life to the love of his life, Gary Eddy, 21 years ago, and for the past 20 years, he's been the openly gay pastor of Open Door Community Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. Too many parents have hurt their children when they thought they were being faithful to their God. Too many LGBTQ kids have committed suicide because they were bullied and were taught that their sexuality made them an abomination to God. Too many men and women have left a faith tradition they really love because they were asked to leave until they could "stop" being gay. Randy Eddy-McCain's life story demonstrates that a person's faith in God can exist without being in conflict with his or her sexuality.

Book Synopsis Why I Am a Social Worker by : Diana S. Richmond Garland
Download or read book Why I Am a Social Worker written by Diana S. Richmond Garland and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "'Why I am a social worker' describes the rich diversity and nature of the profession of social work through the 25 stories of daily lives and professional journeys chosen to represent the different people, groups and human situations where social workers serve. Many social workers of faith express that they feel 'called' to help people--sometimes a specific population of people such as abused children or people who live in poverty. Often they describe this calling as a way of living out their faith. 'Why I am a social worker' serves as a resource for Christians in social work as they reflect on their sense of calling, and provides direction to guide them in this process. 'Why I am a social worker' employs a narrative, descriptive approach, allowing the relationship between faith and practice to emerge through the professional life stories of social workers who are Christians. As such, it provides a way to explore integration on personal, emotional and practical levels."--Back cover.

Book Synopsis Crisis in America: A Christian Response by : Garland Hunt

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's America is faced with multiple challenges that are impossible for anyone to escape. I can't breathe. Black Lives Matter. Not my president. George Floyd. Ahmaud Arbery. COVID-19. Brionna Taylor. Pandemic. Impeachment. Democrat. Republican. Socialism. These names and phrases spark controversy and a range of emotions including rage, hurt, sadness, and sometimes even hopelessness. How can 21st century followers of Christ react the same as nonbelievers? How can they recognize the areas in which God could be calling them into our country's combative culture war? How should they respond to national crises the way Jesus would? What is the Church's role in initiating and facilitating racial healing and reconciliation in the cities and towns across our great land? Crisis in America: A Christian Response answers these questions and challenges Christians and nonbelievers alike to go against the natural tendency to be influenced by the culture and the headlines and develop a God-inspired view to the turmoil of today.
Download or read book Encode written by Desiree Garland and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-21 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did you know that God can encode your DNA with His glory? That might seem like a foreign concept, but God and science have been working in tandem for centuries. In ENCODE: PRAYING WITH THE LANGUAGE OF GLORY, Desiree Garland breaks down complex scientific processes and reveals how God uses those systems to bring about His Will on this earth. Jesus prayed that we would be glorified in the same way that the Father had glorified Him. The purpose of this book is to show you how we can all open ourselves to the true glory of God. And the key to encoding His glory is purposeful prayer. Prayer has the power to transform you into His image. His Light and His Life can illuminate your mind and your body. You only have to pray with the language of glory. Backed by real case studies, scriptural references, and personal anecdotes, this book shows you how to pray with intention, transform into His image, and conduct His ministry in modern times.
